Hi Everyone. After several requests, I'm posting some photos and vids of the Men & Women's 30's USTA Clay Court Championships. Unfortunately, due to work I was unable to get photos/vids of all the earlier matches (1st round, quarters, etc). However, was able to witness some incredible tennis starting with all the semi final matches.

Carlos Gomez-Diaz vs Andy Lake. This match was crazy, CRAZY good. First set, Lake serving for it at 5-3, and Carlos breaks back. Carlos then holds, breaks Lake again, and then serving for it 6-5, has 10 deuce points. Each ad point in that game was unreal. The crowd holding their breath, ooing and ahwwingg. The points were filled with very high level all court play, blazing winners and awesome net play from both players. Finally, with an ad point, Carlos hits a short forehand that Lake punishes with a blasting inside out forehand. Carlos runs to his left, as lake comes into net, and ala Federer, Carlos blasts the most acute backhand cross-court winner, followed by a roar from the crowd, and a "vamos" from Carlos. He takes the first set 7-5. Second set was more of the same from both players, but in the end, Carlos took the second 7-5 as well.

Although I didn't watch a lot of the second semis, it was not wihthout it's share of very high quality tennis. Both guys have spectacular grounds games, serves.

Aracic, 6th seed defeated the number 2, Williams in 3 sets.

Awesome Drak. The fact that you are up this early either means 1 of 2 things. Your date last night woke you up finding her shoes, or the final is about to happen! So take video and pics again!

haha. yup, "My Date" woke me up early. LOL Check her out right here, who by the way, decided to run up the long board walk in the middle of all the semis barking up a storm.

Anyway, I wore this shirt yesterday (was a big hit). :)

On to the women. I'll start with Moz's woman, who once again withdrew after getting trashed the first set by the number 1 seed. Unfortunately, due ot her complaining about court 8, I was unable to get more photos of this match as it was played on the dreaded "COURT 9" (sup's favorite court)

Gosh Drak, I don't know where to start! :)

First of all, thanks for much for taking the time to post videos/pictures/whatever! I'm having trouble deciding which is my favorite AL photo...I'll let you know when I make my decision!!! [IMG] He does look in great shape, though (all the players do), but did he always have such 'guns'? Is he channeling Nadal?

LOL, why is MD my nemesis? Because she smeared the court with me (puts her in good and numerous company), or because she gets to pair with AL? ;)

Interesting that the teaching pro and VM both use the APDC? Hunh. And, a few microgels, too I see.

The unseeded gal in the finals...what's the scoop on her? Other, than, of course, her *fabulous* initials! (GT!) There was a 3.5 woman in the draw, too, from CA!!!

Nice shirt! If that's what you broke out for Friday, I can only imagine what you have in mind for Saturday!!!

Keep up the good work, Yoda!

    PS...Drak, isn't it still 2008??? ;)

Hey Topaz. yeah, they both use that stupid APDC. LOL There were lots of microgels, wilson, prince etc. and yes, plenty of mid frames too. Didn't see one volkl or becker. haha.

    2008 Clay Court Championship, Finals.

As Sup has already stated, Carlos won the first 6-3, then lost the second 6-3, and finally upped his game in the last set to take the title at 6-3. Great, all-around tennis from both guys. Carlos was rolling fh's, hitting droppers, and blasting shots when needed. And he did it all with a Microgel Prestige Mid :)

Great pictures and videos Drak...again, thank you so much for sharing!

Will cross my fingers for MG in the consolation finals tomorrow!

That was indeed, an insane inside out FH from Carlos...great catch on video.

You are welcome. I didn't realize I put the wrong date on the title. LOL Too many heinekens last night. :)

    Still have more pictures/videos.

By the way, Lake lost the bronze ball match (singles), and Mary and he lost in the mixed finals today in 3 sets. Real bummer They played crappy in the last set. He actually lost serve, and then the other guy served it out. :(

Vesna and Carlos took the bronze.

The "mystery" girl absolutly trashed Tricia in the finals. Only girl who gave her a hard time was Vesna.

Wow! I wonder if he still felt a bit disappointed from his singles losses? The guy opponent in mixed...played against him last year. I remember getting two of his volleys back, and it felt like each one of them was a gunshot when it hit my racquet! I think he actually aimed at my racquet to make it easier for me!

Still, he had a good tournament! Maybe he should switch back to his nCode? But he should definitely keep the shirts!

Heh, heh...too many beers? How many is too many I wonder? *thinking*

PS...did you see any of the women's final? What happened there?

Like I said, Trish wasn't even in it and had zero chance. I don't know. She seemed rattled. Never seen her so flustered. I have pictures and videos, but it's taking for ever to upload.

Thanks Mike. Wish I had a better camera this time around. Great tennis all around. I missed a lot of shots because the sun was coming down, and the photos would start becoming blurry. What do you think of the Casio ex-f1?????

Womens Final. Sorry I wasn't able to get more photos, but as I told, Mike, the sun coming down made it difficult to get good shots.

You are very welcome. Always nice to share with others these type of national tournaments. All these players deserve a lot of credit, and never get any attention on these boards. Everyone is too focused on the pros, and don't realize how good these players are. Glad you are enjoying the thread.

I have not used the camera. It has some great features. I heard that John Yandell and Brian Gordan have used the camera for their video work. For the price, I think it is the best high speed video camera out there. If you do not need the high speed video, I think there are better cameras for the price. What camera did you use for these shots?

It looked like Andy was laying into his forehands. Looked like some high level tennis from both of them.

Did you ever find out what the deal with Moz's gal was? Did she hit her head again? Slip on a banana peel? Break a nail? ;)

Thanks, Mike. For these shots I used the Kodak v610 (smae one in my serve video).

I would really like to use that high speed function, so will be looking at it.

Yes, Lake was smashing that FH. He puts so much behind it. Hits with a ton of spin, and pace. (very heavy ball). However, Carlos is able to handle it, and when needed could flat out bruise the ball. The quality of play was amazing. More tomorrow (womens doubles finals, mens, and the consolation finals).
