Has anyone been to the Mercury Insurance Open? I will be in town only for the first weekend which is the two qualifying days? Are the qualifying rounds interesting to watch or should I find another way to kill time?

    Thanks.

I've been there twice. It's a lovely tournament on a beautiful resort. If you like to watch tennis and you don't really care who's playing then it's worth it. There is no parking fee for the qualifying rounds (usually $10) and tickets are inexpensive. Players frequently arrive early so you will see them walking the grounds and on the practice courts in the morning. I would recommend going in the morning while it's still cool out. You can then have lunch outside because the food inside is overpriced and mediocre. Food at the hotel is quite expensive too but there are plenty of nearby options. There is a reason why this tournament is so popular. It's well run and in a beautiful location. As a bonus, you can have a double double at the In-N-Burger where Sharapova ate after her championship.
