I know he's gonna earn alot of points, but do you think JMDP can make it all the way to #5, passing Sod in the mean time?

Good point - I thought long and hard about who my year end number 5 would be. I'm going on the theory that Delpo works his way back until Wimbledon, doing nothing special - then picks it up during the US hardcourt swing then maybe has a good end to the year as well. But yes, Robin could just as easily be 5 - maybe even higher.

    Rafa wins 1/2 slams
    Murray wins a slam
Roddick celebrates the 10th anniversary of Goran winning Wimbledon by playing aggressively and finally wins that elusive Wimbledon trophy
Soderling makes his third FO final, could win it
True class doesn't win an MS title (unlikely)
    Dolgo makes top 20
    Isner makes top 10
At the end of the year, the ATP decides on a rule adding a 5th set tiebreak to all Grand Slam matches.

I think you guys are giving Murray too much credit here.

I mean what exactly did he do this year to give you the impression he will win a GS or the WTF.

Personally I watched the WTF semi against Nadal and thought Murray's mental weakness cost him the match.

Until Murray fixes his habit of choking at big moments I dont see any GS or WTF titles in his sights.

Beat both Roger and Rafa a couple of times? Made a slam final? Doesn't mean he will win one of course.

^^Problem is we never see seasons with 2 players splitting the slams. I read it hasn't happened in the open era. Of course there is always a first time.

Roger OWNS Murray in slams, his game doesn't match well against Feds especially on the big stages.

People have a lot of confidence in DelPo — someone who has spent a year injured. I have a feeling once he starts playing again, he's going to be getting knocked out in the first or second rounds of tournaments for a few months. He might win a hard-court tournament later in the year, but I think Top 5 and another Grand Slam right now might be wishful thinking.

Anyway, I think the end of this year showed Fed has something to prove, and he's going to be on fire. Conversely, Nadal proved he could win all the slams, but hasn't won the WTF, so he might not go all-out every time to conserve energy for later in the year. The effect is that Fed makes all four finals again, winning half ...

    SLAMS
Australian Open: Federer thrashes Murray (who takes out Nadal in semis in another tough battle) in one of the most embarrassing slam finals ever
French Open: Nadal defeats Federer (four sets)
Wimbledon: Roddick makes his last stand, taking out Nadal in the semis in an epic and Federer in a five-set final :)
U.S. Open: Djokovic gets revenge on Nadal in semis for last year, but runs out of gas against Federer in the finals, losing 7-5, 7-5, 6-1

    MASTERS
    Indian Wells: Federer
    Miami: Roddick defends title
    Monte Carlo: Nadal
    Rome: Nadal
Madrid: Federer (in a rare defeat of Nadal in a clay final)
    Montreal: Murray
    Cincinnati: Federer
    Shanghai: Djokovic
Paris: Nalbandian (his goal of reaching the Top 10 comes slowly to fruition and he triumps at one of his favorite tournaments)

WTF: A fresher Nadal — determined to get this honor — defeats Federer in three sets after Nalby and Fed play an epic semi

    TOP 10
    Fed: 2 slams, 3 masters
    Nadal: 1 slam, 2 masters, 1 WTF
Djokovic: 1 masters title, lots of finals and semis elsewhere
Roddick: 1 slam, 1 masters and a couple smaller tourneys make a great year
Murray: 1 masters title, gets beaten in a lot of semis and finals
Soderling: Wins nothing more than an ATP 500 yet somehow still ranked high
Ferrer: Wins a lot of smaller clay tournaments, gets to a lot of quarters and semis
Nalbandian: Works himself back up with flashes of brilliance in slams, smaller tournament wins and success later in the year indoors, just making the WTFs
Tsonga: Wins a couple smaller tournaments, does better in the slams to bounce back in 2011
Last spot: Mystery spot for Querrey, Monfils, Fish, Youzny or somebody else

Davydenko becomes a 11-15 player; Berdych and Verdasco also drop out of the top 10 and never come back. DelPo makes it up to about 12. Meanwhile, Llodra, Gasquet, Stakhovsky, Troicki all move up in the rankings into the top 20.

    Since I'm being thorough...

On the women's side, Sharapova makes a surprise run at the Australian Open, crushing the competition like she did a couple of years ago and beating Clijsters in the final; Serena wins the French Open against Stosur, avenging her loss last year; Venus makes her millionth comeback at Wimbledon (it will be the comeback year for Americans there with Roddick, too), edging her sister in a tight semi and leaving Zvonareva in tears with a 1-6, 7-6, 6-0 victory; and Clijsters wins U.S. Open yet again, beating Serena this time. Wozniacki makes it to the semifinal of every slam but loses. She'll still finish No. 1, despite losing the tour finals to Serena, who plays in only five or six tournaments the whole year.

i think delpo may make it make to the top 10 or 20 (and i hope this), but unfortunately it's too soon to tell. :( i am going to go be a little more reasonable and predict he will win his first masters.

for sure rafa will win RG, and perhaps wimbledon and/or AO. i don't think he will win USO again. he will probably win the 3 clay masters, maybe one other slow HC, too.

i see federer winning either the AO or wimbledon, or both. i think he will win a good deal more masters than the previous years, as he seems obviously more motivated since wimbledon and like he has something to prove. excited for his season next year. :):)

maybe djokovic or murray will win USO . . . murray looked good these past few months, didn't he?? i didn't watch much tennis after USO so i'm not so sure. i think that one's pretty up in the air, just like it was this year.

i for one would like to see a new slam winner, i just honestly have no idea who that could be.

Nadal will complete his Rafa Slam @ AO and defended FO.

Federer will probably regain his Wimbledon and so will del Potro
    @ USO.

I'm done picking Murray to breakthrough at the majors for awhile. Burned too many times, gonna stick with the proven winners for next years predictions.

Well, Fedal have teamed up to claim all the slams in 3 of the past 5 years. Granted the split has been 3/1 in all these cases, but it's not a stretch to see a 2/2 split in 2011.
