Considering 80% of people just got knocked out in one of the tournaments in Round 1, I'm not sure it could be considered easy or boring. These 500s are usually crapshoots involving 2nd-tier players (with Dubai as probably the sole exception), so even needing to make only 5 straight picks can be quite difficult.

What is going on? Out of both tournaments already. What's with all these upsets?

Good luck to everyone that survives R1.

Ferrer retired anyway....it's upset city out in the Orient. Even the matches that should be blowouts are 7-6 in the 3rd.

So I know people are not particularly too happy with the new format for the ATP500 events. However, the main reason why I changed the format from day-to-round to a round-by-round to ensure consistency with the other tournaments. Earlier this year, Dubai and Acapulco were ran under the same round-by-round format. Since Dubai/Acapulco are similar in terms of the draw size (32 players with no byes given), I thought it would be fair to offer the same thing for the Beijing and Tokyo events.

However, if players are not happy with this new format, I can easily just switch it back to the day-to-round for the Valencia/Basel events.

    Please let me know.

It fair with a 32 draw....it would be near impossible to win with a Day to Day schedule. That should be left to the 64's and 128's.

Seems reasonable...these 500s are usually very difficult to predict and there's not many points on the line anyway.

I think maybe some of the confusion might be from the fact that two tournaments were combined in one thread. It might be better to just make 2 separate threads in the future for simulataneous events so people understand they're essentially independent of each other.

Other than that, I don't understand why so many people seems to be so confused. 1 pick per round is not rocket science. Maybe it's because the tournaments have been mixing matches from different rounds on the same day? The up-to-date brackets in very simple form are here to help clarify the progress of these tournaments for anyone still confused:

I like picks by the round. It is more clean-cut. Eliminates the confusion of a combined day ordeal when there is only 4 matches or so and someone picks thinking they have to and miss only to realize they could have waited to the next day.
