Welcome to the 2012 edition of the Paris-Bercy Sudden Death League.

    Rules of the game:

    1. Every day of the tournament that day's matches will be posted. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

    2. Prior to the quarter-finals, you have to pick one player per day. In the quarters, semis and finals you pick one player per round.

    3. During a tournament, you can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you somehow have no players left to pick, you're out as well.

    4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5a. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, you're allowed to change your pick.

5b. If the opponent of the player you picked retires, it counts like a win. However, you can't pick a player whose opponent had already retired from the tournament.

    6. If you want to change you pick, make a new post quoting the old pick. Edited posts containing picks will not be taken into account.

    SCORE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT
    1 correct pick: 70
    2 correct picks: 140
    3 correct picks: 210
    4 correct picks: 280
    5 correct picks: 360
    6 correct picks: 600
    Winner: 1000

So the World Tour Finals event is next week. I've never personally participated in the WTF event. However, from my understanding, it is perhaps the most difficult event to win due to the rules of the game. However, I have been thinking about how to potentially shake up the event a little bit. Here are some of the ideas that I have thought of.

Idea #1: For the RR portion, continue the same format of choosing a player once a day based on the OOP. From semi-finals onwards, players can choose whoever regardless if he/she have chosen him previously. Caveat is that if you chose a player during the RR play and it is still RR play, you cannot choose that player again until the semi-finals.
Example #1: If Player A chose Djokovic on Tuesday during his RR match. Player A can choose Djokovic again in the semi-finals but not on Thursday (if he is playing every other day)

Idea #2: Instead of daily OOP, players make picks based on the RR round. (This is similar to players making picks based on the rounds instead of the daily OOP)

Idea #3: Keep it to the same format as every tournament we have.

    Idea #4: Open for others.

Please note that the World Tour Finals event for SDL is open to all members. There will be a bonus portion for the Top 8 players. Some of the qualifiers will be announced after the Basel/Valencia events.

Jay, will the Davis Cup points be included in the final tally for the Top 8 before the WTF? Nobody really earned a ton, but for people on the bubble like me, a couple of hundred points might make a difference. It also could affect my strategy for Paris.

in to win, but along the way make an ill-advised pick and go to the bench early.
