Come on, this is clearly a shade of the real Tipsarevic. He is a very good player. He has beaten many top 10 players before, and had Ferrer on the ropes at the USO. Not saying he'd win this match, but he should at least be able to keep it competitive. It doesn't seem like he is trying awfully hard our there. Right now his level is worse than a challenger player.

Nadal struggled to beat Delpo on grass at Wimby 2011 despite the fact he'd been playing regular matches and Delpo was pretty much a novice on grass, without doubt his worst surface. Delpo even had a very good chance to take Nadal to 5 on clay in DC that year.

But Nadal out for 6 months would beat Delpo on hard? I mean you don't even say "he'd have a chance" you're sure of victory? Oh the ******* arrogance..

Delpo has such a deceptive forehand, it looks so slow at first but its really quick, especially after the bounce, thats some topspin o_O

Nadal has beaten Delpo in their last 4 encounters on clay, grass and hard. I'm pretty sure he could do it at WTF as well. Also if he had played WTF, obviously, he wouldn't have been "inactive" for 6 months. Logic is not your forte hum?

Shame Nadal isn't here as they should forget the group matches, just have the top 4 compete in a top 4 eliminator for the weekend.

    Saves time & money. 8)

Nadal is still ranked number 4, so he could have elcted to play having missed every event from Wimbledon to Paris. Ok not 6 months, more like 4, but still a massive amount of time for a guy who nearly always struggles at this event anyway. He's also only won one match on hard vs Del Potro since delpo beat him at the US Open (capping a run of 3 straight wins) and that was a few months into Del potro's return from nearly a year out of action.

Not only is logic not your forte, it's a totally stranger to you

Disagree. No one could enter WTF without any match play for months. So if Nadal had played WTF, it would automatically mean that he had gone back to competition earlier in the fall and back to full time practice a while before that as well.

Federer and Ferrer were the only meaningful matches for him.

Failed already one of those and 2nd failure coming.

But technically you COULD enter if you wanted. Now you're just saying "oh well he would have played before hand" for how long? Nadal would have to get a pretty good amount of practice and matches in my opinion considering he never does that well at the WTF. You might as well say "well he would beat delpo cos he wouldn't play the event unless he unbeatable" Soyou can construct an argument that can't be argued against.

Really I just object to you saying he would beat del potro, as if it isn't even in debate. Do you want a list of people Nadal's lost to at the WTF?

Also talking of logic, if Nadal had played the groupings would be different anyway.

No they can't and they won't. Not because of any rule, because one can't play WTF without any match practice.

Nothing personal about Delpo. My only point was that Nadal would have shown better perf than Tipsy who is completely helpless. I wish the groups had been different, the way they are right now looks like a bad joke.

This is bad news for Ferrer. He'll have to club Tipsarevic and hope Fed doesn't tank against Delpo in order to advance.

They obviously can. One can play WTF if he's qualified, regardless of match practice, it's just a large possibility that they'll lose all of their matches. Still doesn't mean they can't play.

Fed could tank to avoid Murray in the semi (if Djoko ends up 1st in his group which is likely). OTOH he may want to try and win the event without losing a match.

I agree with veroniquem. Receiving a bagel in a WTF match is simply embarrassing. If only Nadal were here to challenge Federer...

Rafa still won a match last year. I doubt Tipsy will. I doubt he will win a set actually.

well yes Nadal probably would do better than Tipsy, though you never know. What about last years WTF? Nadal did pretty badly overall. And still doesn't mean doing better would mean beating Del Potro

I know Nadal won a match last year but there is a difference between being ranked 2 and being ranked 9. For a number 2 player, last year was pretty bad.

That I really do agree with. When Rafa returns, tennis will have a solid Top 8. There's an obvious Big 4 to tennis and then a fairly established Smaller 4.
