In looking for his first victory over Federer since 2009, perhaps the 8th time's the charm?

Delpo finally bets him again. He was 2-0 in RG before he got injured and in the Olympics he was 2 points away in his worst surface and Fed's best.

    Based on form:

    - Federer has done the absolute minimum in every match, never in real threat (even in the Bellucci match Federer losing never crossed my mind), played only 1 good match against Paire yesterday. I epxpect Federer to raise his level a bit tomorrow knowning that he's up againt Del Potro.
    - Del Potro has played better every match, he started off really poorly, being broken left and right by the likes of Falla but somehow played himself into form, today he played pretty well.

    Even

    Based on circumstances:
It's Federer's home town and a rather fast hard court.

    Advantage Federer

    Based on the h2h
Well, Federer has owned Del Potro since his comeback, 6 out of 6 this year, even when he had him on the ropes (Dubai 2nd set, Olympics, the French Open) he coudn't finish it off. Also, the match-up favors Federer.

    Advantage Federer

    Going with Federer 7-6 6-4

depends mostly on his serve , if he can get good service points , he can put pressure on juan martin.

Would like to see the tower of tandil win this, fed has enough basel titles and they're not that important anyway.

You really think that if they weren't not that important Mr. Federer would play instead of resting for Paris/WTF?

If Fed can do what he usually does against Delpo, meaning low balls, slices, exploiting movement, pulling him to the net, he wins in straights. Delpo has to serve big and mix his serve up a bit . In their last matches , he always went to Roger's backhand from the deuce court and Fed easily chipped them back in and kept it low. Maybe he should go out wide a bit, open up the court.
    Fed in 2.

Federer just needs to put a few more DS and slices and he'll win.

I was just remembering that Delpo had a 6-0 lead in their second tie-breaker in Dubai.

British legally, but both in practice.

Delpo is too good of a player to go 7 and 0 to Federer this year in my opinion. Also Federer's backhand and ROS are looking shambolic as of late.

Good point. But, putting the sentimental/contract(?) reasons aside, Basel fits nowhere. Playing all 3 of Basel, Paris, WTF on the trot is a tough stretch. Skipping Paris where Fed's defending 1000 points makes no sense. Would have been better off with the Shanghai/Beijing and Paris/WTF doubles like the Djoker. UFE from Fed?

i am a federer fan, but i think federer should go easy. if it gets tight, i think del potro wins this.

i really like the guy, so i wouldnt mind. still, losing in a final is allways bad, so...

Have to favor Federer here. The mental edge he has at this point against Delpo is insane. I'd say Fed in 7-6,7-5.

I feel #77 coming for Fed in two tight sets. I wouldn't mind if Pony Boy picked up another title though.

This match is pathetic, it's so obvious Delpo will play garbage...or should I say Fed will make him look garbage.

Whether he wins this final or not, I think Fed fans have to accept that he isn't going to be YE#1. However, there's a good opportunity to overtake the spot again after the AO.

Yep, that hope is pretty much over. I am just hoping for another WTF victory and the AO if possible. :) Five wins at three of the four slams would be amazing.

Fed has repeatedly 'punished' Delpo for his audacity to snatch USO 2009 by handing him several heartbreaking losses but I think Delpo has this one. He will finally defeat SMC in his hometown quite like Djoko did in 2009. Guaranteed.

If Delpo serves the way he did against Gasquet in the SF, he could beat Feddy this time ... but it would have to be in three, cuz fed's gotta take one, right?!

Seen too many Federer - Delpo matches and its just ugly match-up overall.

You cant pick Delpo in this one, Federer just matches up against him too well.

He had his chances in Olympics, but you gotta look their matches overall, its not pretty.

Berdych can return Federer's 1st serve with ease, Delpo cant as his return sucks, main reason he struggles against *******.

Berdych is the only big guy who can beat him.
