It's just a 250 event but some big names are competing. The Malaysian Open marks the beginning of the Fall Asian swing on the Tour

Can't see anyone but Ferrer holding the trophy by the end of the tournament, not unless an inconsistent talent like Dolgopolov gets hot. Thoughts?

Unfortunately, Baker's run at this tournament was short lived as he lost to qualifier Michael Yani 6-3 7-6(4).

    Other results:

    I. Sijsling def. A. Deen Heshaam 6-2 6-1

    V. Pospisil def. J. Melzer 6-4 2-0 Ret. (YESS!!)

    J. Wang def. R. Ghedin 6-3 6-3

Yes, first thing I saw when I woke up was Baker losing to a 200+ ranked player. It was quite a good draw for him, especially with Melzer out. He really has to get his act together before he starts losing ranking points or he will be on his way out as fast as he came.

Although i am not a huge fan of Nishikori, I want to see him do well to get the asians excited about the sport. We need to get that part of the country involved in the sport somehow.

Some good players in these ATP 250s. It's a bit unrelated but I just saw that Kohlschreiber (#18.) is playing a challenger in Orleans, France. You don't see that too often, do you?

Seems a bit odd. Wonder why he's not playing any of the Asian events this week?

That is a great field for a challenger.

I do notice a lot of the guys like to hang together, so if some of them weren't so crazy about traveling too far to Asia, and then found out some of their friends/peers were playing this tournament - plus Orleans is a lovely town - I could see that happening.

Igor Sijsling is up 7-6 4-4 against Feliciano Lopez. Very impressive of my fellow countryman. I really like Lopez though.. so not sure who to root for.

Sijsling of course. Why would you not want to support a fellow Dutchman (unless you have some particular reason to dislike him)?

In any case, you'll be pleased (or not) to know he won the match 7-6,7-6. :)

    Semifinals are set:

    (1) D. Ferrer vs (7) J. Benneteau

    (3) K. Nishikori vs (2) J. Monaco

My easy prediction still stands that Ferrer takes this title but it took him 3 sets to defeat Sijsling so his form isn't exactly in top shape right now.

I'm going to say it will be a 1 vs 2 final, Ferrer vs Monaco.

Nishikori had a matchpoint on his own serve but Monaco still broke back. It's now 5-4 in favor of Nishikori in the 3rd set, but Monaco is serving. Go Nishi!

oh no... it was a good opportunity for nishikori to win a 2nd title. :(
let's hope he does well on home soil next week...

in the other SF, benneteau beating ferrer again ?
their H2H is now at 4-4, surprisingly... match-up issue ?
