I just realized how badly stacked Mississippi State was all season. Cant and Coupland were obviously 2 and 3 on that team but they played Chaundry and Stropp ahead of those two instead. As a result they barely ever lost at 4 and 5 but rarely won at 2 and 3 vs the big teams. Not sure if it was that beneficial on the end.

are you sure Quigley lost? I had him winning the first set earlier. Unless the scoreboard was wrong.

I thought that's what it said but now the scoreboard isn't showing the scores so I'm not positive.

I guess the scoreboard was wrong because according to Kentucky's twitter account he won.

Johnson won the first set 6-0??

I know he's by far the premiere college player, but it's still shocking. He might be a dominant 2-time NCAA champion in a few days, yet some people here said he shouldn't come back to school. Yet, his pro results haven't been that great. Once again showing the big gap between outstanding college players and pros. Does he have a chance at a serviceable pro career?

I think he has. He is right now about 350 ATP, and has not been playing full time. He could be a top 100 ATP in the upcoming year, but as we know from could to happen is a big step.

I thought Rola had a good shot of beating Frank. He has a lot of variety and ball feel that can combat the consistency of Frank. Not a one trick pony like many of the players Frank gets

    Retirement during Johnson-Quiroz match

Either Johnson or Quiroz had to retire during their doubles match in the quarterfinals. What does this mean ? Is Johnson injured ? He has to play against Klahn in the semifinals of Singles. Is Johnson less than 100% for this semis ? If so, this could be real interesting semis, indeed.

Klahn vs Johnson would be a great match and a way both guys could finish their careers. 2 SoCal kids going at it would be fun

Congrats SJ on 70 straight wins - has anyone else done that?

Or maybe they are pro before that happens?

yes Unless he figured he had no chance to win the doubles event. That wildcard into US open is probably more valuable than anything else. Lets be honest, winner of Klahn and Johnson semi will most likely win the singles event. thus get the wildcard into US open.

Johnson has been dominating the last few matches they played. It could be the same again. But let's not forget that the last two matches were when Klahn was still "recovering" from injury. I hope Johnson is not at his best, and that Klahn is... this could be a very close match.

Gibbs up 6-2 against Will. Burdette up 5-2 against Susanyi.
This could be a family reunion in the final.

Rola turning it on this tournament. He has a lot of pro experience, was 388 in the world. Usually guys at that level don't consider college especially if they are foreign.

Gibbs in the final! All Stanford final.

Agree about Rola, he's a great player. I guess he wasn't good enough to turn pro at 18...

Johnson on his injury, from ZooTennis (http://tenniskalamazoo.blogspot.se/) "After singles I was feeling just exhausted physically and I tried to come out here and play doubles, but my body just wasn't holding up," said Johnson, who had an ice bag wrapped around his stomach area. "I knew more time on the court would be bad for me, so I just decided the body wasn't feeling good, so just call it a day. The heat finally got to me today, and I've 12, 16 hours to get ready for singles tomorrow against Bradley, so I'll get up in the morning with a better attitude, I think."

Brad, cut the UE!!! Trying to blast every return and landing them all 3 feet long is not going to do you any good.

Johnson taking so much extra time between each point, walking away when Brad is ready to serve... He looks like a nice guy, but I'm not sure of his sportmanship sometimes.

Really poor tiebreak from Rola. Dumpd two 2nd serve returns into the net, shanked a random backhand mid-point.
