6-4 7-5 Johnson. I feel that Brad had a better shot than that. Just too many UE in the end. Ended it on a double fault on serve.... Good effort to get to the semis. It shows that he was still one of the top players in college.

Johnson is just playing at a different level than anyone else right now, so well done Steve! Klahn is right there behind. In fact, Brad only lost to Steve Johnson this season if my memory is correct.

Huh? About what? It would suck to get that far and then see your partner default wouldn't it?

wow, what a way to throw your partner under the bus... SJ knows that he will get an automatic invite to USO ,but his partner,Quiroz, would be there too if they did well in the doubles ... so Quiroz now has little or no chance at the USO entry, because SJ didn't want to finish..

after reading this article ,it's hard to wish him well... very cut-throat ,but that's tennis...

Quiroz wouldn't have been given a USO wildcard because he isn't american.

I think it's only for Americans. Not that I think that's right or anything but them's the rules I believe.

Devvarman didn't get one. And I'm pretty sure Rola would not have gotten one. The USTA wants to give them to Americans just like the FO gives it to Frenchmen and so forth.

Really Steve Johnson deserves to win this year. He was the best player all year long in NCAA. he has some long ways to go in the pros. but we will see how he does in the summer time.

Its the Same with NCAA's, but you have to be American in order to get the WC. At Kalamazoo, you have to be an American citizen to compete. Therefore, every winner would most likely get the WC.

With all that SJ did for that team this year, I do not think his doubles partner would have felt like he was thrown under the bus even if he could have played US Open (had they won).

The first year Matias Boeker won the NCAA's, when he was going under Argentina, he did not get the US Open Wildcard.

The next year, he changed to USA, and won the NCAA's again, and then he go the US Open Wildcard.

Lol, some things never change, much easier to throw out pro-Stanford misinformation than do 45 seconds of research on the Stanford tennis website

Thanks to Clemson for dropping some knowledge and correcting db

Regardless of their fan base, congrats to both Stanford teams on some good runs in the individual tournies

In my opinion, yes, Johnson is playing better at the moment. but as the pro career unfolds for these two guys, Klahn will prove to be the better of the two. They have very similar games but Klahn is lefty which proves to be a big advantage in the pros. but either way, both guys have lots of improving to do before making noise in the tour.

Your memory is not correct, as usual. Do you even ever check into things before you post them?

He also lost to Fanselow (Pepperdine), Frank (UVA), and Rossi (UK)

Division 1 men's finals and they are not at least on ESPN 360 or Fox Sports type channel? This is crazy that a final like this is not available other than the stream that has been going which is not great quality.

I was watching this Stanford match a few weeks ago at Taube, and i couldn't believe how many poor calls the chair umpires were giving on several courts. Such a disservice to all these kids. Are you one of these umpires?

I think Steve J has a better chance on the tour because he tends to come to the net a lot to finish points off, which is a big advantage in the pros. Look at his former teammate Robert Farah, they have similar attacking games, big serve, big FH but Farah doesn't come as much to the net. Robert has been playing pretty well lately, making the main draw of 2 Masters this spring and wining against a top 40 and a former top 5 (Davydenko). Yet, he's still struggling at 170 or so in the rankings. Is he playing poorly? Not at all, but as soon as the exchange goes on, he tends to make UE too easily compared to top 100 pros. When he comes to the net, he wins a lot more points and games. Brad has great weapons, but too many UE and a weak BH. I hope I'm wrong but this is going to bite him in the pros.

I know people pick on Johnson's backhand not being that good. But remember Fernando Gonzalez had a fantastic career made by slicing every backhand.

Did any of you notice that within the first 3 or so games that Johnson questioned 3 or 4 balls that looked either clearly in or clearly out? I wonder if he will have this same problem when he turns pro or if he will be a big user of Hawkeye.

Isner didn't have a great all around game either and Johnson is better at this point than Isner was. I think that if Johnson plays "as is" on tour, he will float around the top 200. Only he can decide if he is going to get better and become a top 10 guy, which I believe he has the potential to do.
