I usually find that humidity slows the ball down. Berdych hits with a lot of pace and sometimes a lot of kick - Fed returned a lot of backhand slice shots into the net and long.

I found Fed's serve and forehand last night didn't have the clean "snap" (for lack of a better word) that I was accustomed to seeing - they were noticeably slower.

Congratulations Tomas Berdych (aka Berdbrain, aka Berdsh*t)! Wonder if Nadal watched this/his reaction to it....

Fed lost this match because of poor strategy: didn't break the rhythm enough by S-V and coming to the net more. He was 83% on that. I thought he was preparing for it based on his style in previous matches, but it was just a fake:-[

He's too stubborn to listen to Anacone. He wants to beat everyone with THEIR weapons.

I'm not saying he would have won (Berdych played exceptionally), but things would have been closer, and who knows.

If you give them the style that they want, they are going to feel in their element.

No, he lost because he could not find his forehand and he did not serve well. Without those two weapons no way he could win this match. He was spraying errors all over the place. Awful Fed performance.

    Cut the guy a break . Fed's words ::

"I thought sometimes people kind of forgot I had the kids"

"It actually has a big effect on a player, on practice, on matches, even though I think I handled it as well as I could.

"But I'm sure at times you are just that little bit more exhausted than other players, so that might be a reason as well (why) sometimes you just don't win as much any more.

"But who cares? I don't care really. I want to be happy in my personal life and, if I'm happy on the tennis court and I win a bit less, that's fine too."

"I try everything I can so the kids are happy and if my wife's happy and we're having a great time,"

    Hey, thanks for posting that!

Fed just confirms what many have said before, having a family obviously makes a difference. Glad to know Fed puts family first, as it should be.

To be honest, he has done remarkably well I think anyway, even with having a family.

    True.
Fed has held a high level for awhile. It's just so hard to keep a high level for a year in todays game, letdowns come but no player knows when it will.

Fed's game wasn't good enough, serve, FH and shanks on the BH showed his game just wasn't there.

He lost because of his poor performance and Berdych played a strong game.

I could see Fed trying to get some kind of rhythm and get his game going the whole match. It never came at all.

    This shouldn't mean much.

Fed will get some rest, look into reasons for the poor performance and will be recharged again.
    Just part of the game.
