A few photos from Winter Nationals today in cold and cloudy Phoenix. I don't know who the majority of the players are.

I'll probably be spending the majority of the time at the site of the 18s Boys. Eventually all the 16s and 18s will converge there for the semi-finals and finals.

I'll post the pictures a bit bigger today. The majority of the "good" pics I got today were of Henry Craig. I prefer to take pictures that have motion in them, not the typical TRN pictures of the ball on the string. Those, to me, are dull. Henry tends to 'take off' when hitting on his forehand wing, so there are lots of interesting shots.

I'm well, numero uno sensei. Would have love to have been able to shoot Deit playing the tourney again. Oh well...not to be.

Love all your pictures, great action shots here! We're down in Tucson as my son is playing the 14s. Thanks for sharing them.

Great shots of tourney action. Just curious, how is it not an action shot with the ball on the strings?

Keep up the photos, thanks for sharing. Lots of good players!

I didn't mean to imply they're not action shots but quite often they tend to be relatively static pictures. Maybe it's just the way they're framed or cropped. I said I prefer taking pictures that have a sense of motion in them - to me that is much more interesting than a torso close-up that happens to have a ball smooshed on the racquet. If that same picture were framed appropriately (depending on what that player's body is doing), it could be a gem..

For example: http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/121027053706-sharapova-semifinal-story-top.jpg it's not a bad picture, but in my opinion the picture would be better if you had more of a sense of motion, such as Maria's torso torquing and body coming off the ground. This picture of Tsonga is infinitely more interesting: http://d.yimg.com/i/ng/sp/empics/20...hips-day-england-lawn-tennis-croquet-club.jpg

Tremendous matches today, especially between Mitch Stewart and Gage Brymer. Gage got up two breaks early winning the first 14 points of the match. Stewart played remarkable defense and fought back to win the first 7-6 (5). Brymer won the 2nd easily 6-1. In the 3rd, Stewart jumped to an early break and was able to hold on winning 6-3. My guess: Mitch Stewart logged about 12 miles in the match. Remarkable scrambling.

Tyler Lu took down Grant Solomon in another decent match. John Mee came from behind to take out Bellamy in 3 sets.
