The ITA just put out the 1st rankings of the year a few days back. Not much change from the year-end rankings which are in ( ). Baylor and Oklahoma up a few spots.

    1. Virginia (1)
    2. UCLA (2)
    3. Georgia (3)
    4. USC (5)
    5. Ohio State (4)
    6. Tennessee (6)
    7. Duke (7)
    8. Baylor (12)
    9. Kentucky (9)
    10. Oklahoma (13)

There is going to a be a D1 Men's Coaches Poll this year as well which will be made available on College Tennis Online. The 1st poll for them is due to be released this Tuesday. It will be interesting to see what kind of differences there are between the ITA's Computer poll and the Coaches poll. I believe the coaches poll will be just the Top 25 and not the Top 75 like the ITA's.

Men's Singles & Doubles Rankings. Singles rankings are reflective of the Fall Results and the Top 20 looks pretty good to me. Ronnie Schneider is the highest ranked freshmen at 16 with George Goldhoff (Texas) not far behind at 24.

    1. Clay Thompson (UCLA)
    2. Julian Lenz (Baylor)
    3. Mitchell Frank (Virginia)
    4. Jared Hiltzik (Illinois)
    5. Guillermo Alcorta (Oklahoma)
    6. Axel Alvarez Llamas (Oklahoma)
    7. Patrick Pradella (Baylor)
    8. Winston Lin (Columbia)
    9. Gonzales Austin (Vandy)
    10. Ray Sarmiento (USC)
    11. Marcos Giron (UCLA)
    12. Austin Smith (Georgia)
    13. Jeremy Efferding (Texas A&M)
    14. Daniil Proskura (Alabama)
    15. Nik Scholtz (Ole Miss)
    16. Hunter Reese (Tennessee)
    17. Ronnie Schneider (UNC)
    18. Diego Galeano (Baylor)
    19. Harrison Adams (Texas A&M)
    20. Romain Bogaerts (Wake Forest)

    Freshmen Rankings
    16. Ronnie Schneider (UNC)
    24. George Goldhoff (Texas)
    37. Andrew Harris (Oklahoma)
    43. Jordan Daigle (Virginia)
    53. Elliott Orkin (Florida)
    62. Mackenzie McDonald (UCLA)
    63. Florian Lakat (Mississippi State)
    81. Sebastian Beltrame (Harvard)
    83. Nick Horton (NC State)
    a few more that I didn't list

I went with Georgia due to home court but it would surprise me if they did.

It's a toss up between UCLA/Georgia for me. Georgia will be really strong with the addition of Montgomery to the lineup.

Not much difference in the coaches poll and regular computer poll.

Blaz Rola is not on the 2014 Ohio State roster so he is now officially a pro so Ohio State will have a lot to replace this year. Lots of freshmen will need to step up.

I assume it's because Schnur did not play any fall ITA matches that he is not ranked in any poll. Are there other players that may not have played ITA tourneys this fall that might impact the rankings?

Alex Domijan would easily be top 5 if he played. Adrien Puget would be top 30ish.

BYU barely avoided the first big upset of the year. Edging Utah State 4-3.

It would be interesting to see who is supposed to win the NCAA title according to to the five poll voters who voted "Other." I will take the eight teams listed in the poll and they can have "the field." Maybe $1000 would make it interesting (just joking, but I wonder about the difference between clicking a button and having to put your money where your mouth is).

Couple of roster moves in the top 5 that could be big for those teams title hopes.

Georgia: Wayne Montgomery will not join the team this season as planned.

USC: Connor Farren is on the roster along with a 21 year old player from Norway, Sander Brendmoe. Farren should be able to contribute; don't think Brendmoe will at least not based on results at the Future level.

Ohio State: Constantin Christ is no longer on the roster.

Why isn't Montgomery joining Georgia this season? Did he not qualify? That's interesting.

Hearing that he didn't qualify. I'm guessing he'll be playing Futures this year and will likely be in Athens in the fall if he can get everything cleared up on the academic side.

Wow that hurts. UGA is still good but they don;t have the #1, even though they did make SF.
    Very interesting.

In that case, I change my list of three title contenders from UCLA/Virginia/Georgia to UCLA/Virginia/USC. Connor Farren is for real. He is even a pro tennis player according to his own web site this fall. :)

It's taken a while but they finally announced the venues for the Men's National Team Indoors next month in Houston.

    Downtown Club at the Met
    Galleria Tennis and Athletic Club

I'm guessing they'll be no webcams for those interested...

Good day so far for UCLA. Only loss by Tachi who won't even be in top eight. They're the team to beat for the ncaa championships I do believe.

Duke vs. Elon LiveStats. Duke is playing without Michael Redlicki. Injury? With Mengel taking a medical redshirt year, they need to get Redlicki healthy to beat teams like Kentucky, which they face on Sunday.

EDIT: Maybe Duke needs Redlicki healthy so they can beat Elon. This is looking bad for the ACC at the moment. My predictions about UNC challenging Duke look accurate at the moment.

Silverman over Tahir 6-1 in the 3rd and it is now tied at 3. Hemmeler has tied it up at 5 on his court.

3-3 with Hemmeler at 5-5 in the third, Kowalski serving. I need Duke to win for UVa's computer strength of schedule, but I feel for Kowalski, who was serving at 4-0 earlier, up two breaks.

When the final match reached 5-5, I figured Kowalski was serving again in a pressure game. It did not even occur to me that they were playing a tiebreaker at that point. That just feels really weird at the conclusion of a dual match, regardless of whether my team wins or not.

They need to put an * next to the dual match scores with that format. No ad scoring, tiebreak at 5 all, don't like it at all.

Yes, but at least the new format got the Duke-Elon match on TV so we could watch it and the schools could make money off it -- right?

Different scoring system is different and will take some getting used to, I get it. But to blame Duke's loss on that as the sole reason, really cheapens the win for Elon. The way I look at it is, no matter the circumstances the better team (or player) will win. Today, Elon was the better team and they deserved to win. It's not like they played rock, paper, scissors to decide the winner.

Damn right they did. Billy Martin and Peter Smith ain't going to put up with that stuff….though I guess they won't have a choice in the dual matches.

I'm torn. What if it increases TV time for the sport? I don't like the rule changes either. No easy answers.

Wow. Anyone going to challenge the Bruins for the title this year. They can win even with numerous net mishaps this year.

I just came back from Sherwood cup and ucla looked great. The quality of tennis was great and I would definitely recommend going. I got to see Brmyer and McDonald from a few feet away.

Having watched the UT U of M match yesterday I can say that I hate the new format. I can't wait until it switches back.
