Congrats to Vika for defending her title, at her best Serena is probably still the best player in the world but Azarenka is a legit #1.

Great start of the year for Li Na overall, nice rebound from her mediocre 2012, I expect good things from her this year.

B/P Vika 9/12 and B/P Li Na 7/18. She should have won this match.

As i've said--Azarenka was hunrgy to establish herself as the best of the new guard, and she has accomplished that in more than convincing fashion. She's a serious fighter, and after the way she fought Serena in last year's USO, I gained much respect for this champion.

    Well done, Victoria Azarenka!

In a way, I'm glad she won - I don't like it when crowds try and make out individual players to be pantomime villains and overtly dislike them, cheering double-faults and so on.

I was rooting for Vika as soon as I heard the crowd doing that.

Gutted for Li Na, if not for the tumbles who knows what might have happened?

It's suddenly occurred to me that Azarenka is younger than me

The future of Asian tennis has been knocked down :(

I wish Sharapova survived Li Na's wrath and played godmode against Azarenka.

Towards the middle of 2nd set, Li went back her old technique of hitting too flat and started making too many UE's.. she did make required changes but still too many UE's in the end

This has to go down as one of the ugliest slam victories ever. Saved by a Hampton back injury, spared from Serena by a grapefruit-sized ankle, and boosted by 3 potential injuries in this one.

I will never cheer for Azarenka. The sooner she loses the #1 ranking the better.

    Exactly!

The new form that Carlos instilled worked magic during 1st set!

Then she started losing that form and reverted to old self...
Those 2 falls really accelerated the breakdown...

But i thank Li for holding up to the end.
    Thank you Li.

She's a very late bloomer, I wouldn't be sure of her being finished at 31.

I think Carlos Rodriguez is excellent for her.

Li Na can wipe her tears away with million dollar bills. But I respect her fight even when she's made enough money to last several lifetimes.

She's not Serena--who is powerful enough to handle the youthful players around her. She--like Schiavone--was very fortunate to win a major at this stage of her life.

BTW, Na had such a pouty, sour expression on her face during the ceremony. She needs to accept that she was outplayed by a fighter.
