    Zheng breaks for 4-3.

Stosur's backhand is now mechanical and tight. No racket speed with it.

Sam needs to come in a bit and mix it up, make Zheng pass her. Even with Sam's huge forehand, Zheng can win the baseline battle because she knows to hit to Sam's backhand most of the time, overall she's more consistent, and she also has good power herself. Impressive power by Zheng since she's so tiny.

But, I still think Sam should be able to win this if she plays smartly.

Stosur's backhand is weird sometimes. She tries to flip over it quickly with her wrists like a forehand. I've seen her hit it well, but it really can go off. Come on Sam!

Zheng breaks to lead 5-4. Stosur did more to lose that game than Zheng did to win it. 3 DFs there.

The last thing she needs is the foolish piling on of pundit expectation. We witnessed what that did for Oudin, and unless the girl is some super talent ready to flatten the field, this kind of hype/build up is pointless and counter-productive.

Lol. Stosur gets a new racket without breaking a string in the middle of the game.

Sam should slice a LOT more backhands. The topspin just isn't working. The errors are so wildly different. She jams it and it lands in the net, and then she'll have a topspin backhand sale wildly long.

That was their answer to the "Big Babe" tennis: hit as hard as possible, but nevermind strategy. Although when Vaidisova was active, I thought she was starting to use her speed and size to move the ball around and not just bury her feet at the baseline and blast. She was more of a natural athlete than stiff-backed Kvitova & Hantuchova, or the rest.

Ugh. Stosur. I like Sam a lot. I hate when she has these crazy-nervous errors. Great job by Jie hanging in there after losing all those match points.

Zheng hit 1 more winner and 15 fewer UEs than Stosur in the set.

    please explain

since you condemn "brainless ball bashing" by Slovaks and Czechs, you don't share the same passion for Russians, and along the way you don't seem to appreciate some more of a less "ball bashing players"? should I mention their names?

I just watched a game between the hardest hitter on ATP between another, some being along Kerber or Radwanska lines, and he was almost knocked out

Case being made, do not side only with a side which is favourable to your believies

I'm not giving anybody a break. I love it when certain players are on, don't get me wrong. But even I'll call out Kvitova/Kuznetsova/Petrova/Li and a few others for their brainless antics... and I typically root for them. I am a fan of the sport first and foremost. I just want to see a match where the win is earned, not given away with 50+ UEs by each player in 2 sets.

forgive me for being a bit harsh

seems like many on here can only appreciate hit and a win type of game, in addition there is also brain and finesse involved. should those last have more of a hit game as well? well, there would be none of the first type, let us see of how it develps

I enjoyed the Radwanska-Errani YEC match. A lot of tactics, angles, variety of shots, intensity, and just entertaining. No insane barking/screaming in a 3 hour match that was a nail biter.

I can't stand it when you have to watch a Li-Sharapova match where there's literally a combined 50w-150ue. No rhythm, no flow, nothing thoughtful being done out there. Just keep hitting hard and hope your shots land in... and your opponent DFs match point.

Stosur finding her groove. Looking scary good at the moment.
Easy hold to lead 4-1. Barring a meltdown we're going 3 sets.

    Stosur breaks for 5-1.

Anybody's game now. It's basically on Stosur's racquet. Zheng needs to land her 1st serve and punish Stosur's backhand.

Stosur holds for 4-2. You can just sense the tension from both players.

Stosur actually hit a BH winner???

I like both players and before the match would be fine with either player winning, but at 5-2 Stosur, I certainly wanted Sam to win. She doesn't need another Slam meltdown. Come on Sam!
