thought the same thing actually. must be something about the lighting and the size of the indoor court, which dissipates the sound of the ball impact.

some pics and day 1 recap here:

    Frank Dancevic is a stud

I can't believe how well Frankie played. Unreal! There were times when I think he thought he was Fed from 07! Crazy stuff. I kept thinking "can he keep this up over 5 sets"? When will he come out of the zone? He never did. Granollers put up a good fight in the last service game from Frank. If he had broken there it could have been very interesting. I'm calling Canada to sweep with Nestor and Pospisil in dubs tomorrow. I'm sure Corretja is on the phone to Nadal, Ferrer and Verdasco right now... "how soon can you get a flight to Vancouver"!!!!

Raonic's serve may seem muted, I know what you mean when you're used to hearing big impact, but trust me... 228 KM/HR is not slow!!! He was serving some bombs and placing them pretty well too. He kept Ramos guessing all day. Too many forehand errors from Milos though, he could have made it alot easier on himself by making Ramos play more points. His returning wasn't great either. Ramos was pushing in some serves and Milos wasn't taking advantage like he should. Milos should take some returning notes from Dancevic!

Only caught bits and pieces of this tie as I was watching my own country's struggles but goddam can I just say that Granollers was pretty awful. I know he wasn't probably best suited to this court but to win FIVE GAMES when you are nr.34 in the world and the other guy is nr.166 is embarrassing. Yes, I know this is DC and these things matter less but Granollers should be ashamed of his performance.

    Canada will surely clinch this.

Which section were you in? Were you in the temporary bleachers or the permanent stands?

I want to know the difference between A, B, and C in section 100.

have seen frank play many DC matches and this was his best ever match. match of his life. couldn't miss yesterday. will never play at that level again. doubles is key but so is milos' match on sunday. he will have to play better than on friday.

I was in section 108. Permanent stands. There were some empty seats in that section.

Nestor/Pospisil up one set to love and tied 1-1 in the 2nd. Loving what I'm seeing so far from the Canadians. They looked poised and I'm impressed by how well Pospisil seems to be handling the nerves. This might just be the biggest Davis Cup match in Canadian history and the guy is looking loose and comfortable.

Yikes, break point for the Spaniards on Nestor's serve.

This one is slowly slipping away I think. Unfortunately they'll probably need to rely on Milos taking care of business tomorrow. Hopefully Canada can drag this out as long as possible so Granollers is a bit more worn down for tomorrow.

Frankie Dank was on fire. Granollers did nothing wrong.

After Nadal played him in '07 he said "he hit shots that don't exist!"

Damn, Spain gets the break and is back on serve down 3-4 in the 3rd. Canada had multiple chances to break at 3-0 and take a commanding lead but credit goes to Spain for hanging in there.

Spain gets the break and goes up 4-2 in the 4th. The Canadians' level of play is dropping a bit.

Easy hold for Spain to go up 3-1. You can tell the Canadians are definitely fading a bit. Need a good hold here to stay in it.

Spain breaks again. 4-1 now. This one's over.

Unfortunately, Nestor and Pospisil's level has suddenly plummeted. Missing volleys all over the place. Oh well, Canada is still in the driver's seat, but there will definitely be some major pressure on Raonic tomorrow to get r done.

    Spain takes it 4-6 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-2.

Credit to Canada, they pushed the #3 doubles team in the world and made it a match. The results is still disappointing, though, as they were up 2 sets to 1 and looked more than capable of winning.

its gonna be raonic vs garcia lopez, boys.

I first asked corretja about it friday. his response "I will decide after the doubles tomorrow"

turns out he was already thinking about it back then

Not totally surprised considering how early a start it is today following yesterday's 5-setter with Granollers.

If Milos wants to become an elite player, he needs to demonstrate he can comfortably win matches like these.

    my mistake, sorry~! :)

match starting soon. I ll be watching from the press box with the tenniscanada social media people

look for garcia lopez to serve hard down the T and take his backhand down the line to get milos on the defensive. will come down to 1 break each set. should be a good one.

Canada on the verge of upsetting #1 ranked Spain in the Davis Cup. No doubt we benefited from Spain's top guns not playing.

As a Canadian, I am just so thrilled that our team is in the Davis QF's, and against a beatable team to boot.

I realize we didn't face anything close to Spain's best team, but this is huge for Canada regardless. Hey, it's not Canada's fault guys like Ferrer and Almagro decided they didn't want to play. Or did coach Corretja purposely not invite those players, thinking his team could win without them? Who knows? Either way, cya Spain!

Another thing: Frank Dancevic! As well as Raonic has played, he was expected to win his matches. Dancevic will go down as the hero that completely dismantled Spain's best player (or at least their best available player)!

Even watching him now against Ramos, it makes me wonder why the heck he's only ranked 305th in the world. It's obvious he raises his game exponentially during Davis Cup. Maybe he can just be Canada's Davis Cup specialist.

Dancevic is almost playing a bit too loose right now. He's down a set a break to Ramos.

Ramos serving for the set and the match now. This rubber means absolutely nothing but I'm still hoping to see Dancevic break and stay alive. A 4-1 tie looks a helluva lot better than a 3-2 tie. :p
