It's a pretty strong field out there, Fed, Djoko, Berdych, Juan Martin, Jo - 6 of the top 10 players if I'm not mistaken. Who takes the title?

Strange to see Murray not defending his points. Federer should be glad he has a tiny breathing space as he only needs to make the final now to increase the gap between points.

If all things go to planned it should be Djokovic V Federer. Hopefully with the fast courts in Dubai Roger wouldn't go out early like in Rotterdam, but he's been in South Africa this week so you never know travelling may be tiresome for him.

As for the others I expect Berdych to make the semi, and Delpo as well but it's possible he may run out of gas (he didn't last year).

If you put Djoker and Fed in this court I will definitely go for Fed anyday (bar 2011 Djoker), but due to the current circumstances I would say Djokovic is the favourite.

Djokovic and Federer should be the favourites, but the rest depends on what happens in Marseille. Delpo will be playing his third tournament in a row (winning Rotterdam, still in Marseille), and Berdych and Tsonga are also still going strong in Marseille. I imagine there could be a few strategic tanks with an eye on Indian Wells.

I'll take Djokovic over Delpo in the final, if they're on opposite sides of the draw.

Federer to win.. He will really want to get this one after Rotterdam.

    is the draw out?

Great line-up. Should be a lot of fabulous tennis. Llodra and Davydenko will go far. Both 'in-form'.

    +1,

But very interested in crashes between Djokovic, Federer, Del Potro and Tsonga.

I think Djokovic will win it. Federer hasn't convinced me yet in 2013 and he doesn't have last year's motivation (to get back to #1) either.

He decided to take February off to concentrate on getting as fit as possible for IW and Miami (given he's had disappointing results at both in the last 3 years, especially at IW).

Djokovic will likely win the title. Federer has looked awful so far this year.

I always vote for Novak, and I'm always afraid he'll lose. Just excited to see him back on the courts after what feels like a long break. I do think the guys who have been playing in tournaments the last two weeks are bound to be getting a little tired so hopefully the long break works in his favor.

Thanks! Interesting gamble. If he wins both masters, he'll be #1 in the race ranking :) Worth a shot, I suppose.

Great field for a 500, and it's all live on UK tv, which is great news for me. Looking forward to this, and almost disappointed Novak is playing (actually more disappointed Murray isn't), as otherwise I think it'd be much more of a close tournament. Fully expect Nole to win, but hoping a Tsonga/del P can spring an upset.

Djokovic has Delpo in his half but Federer will probably have to get through either Berdych or Tsonga. Far from a lock for the final, Roger will be tested.
Meanwhile Marco Djokovic is playing live right now against Matteo Viola (ITA) in the qualifying.

Riddiculous draw again, Federer doesn't get much luck with the draws these days - Tsonga Berdych and Tipsarevic in his half while Djokovic has Seppi, Del Potro and Youzhny. WAT. The good part is that Berdych and Tsonga are still playing in Marseille (and both will probably win their SF matches) so they could be a bit spent for Dubai.

    Key matches from the draw:
    • Djokovic Vs. Troicki
    • DelPo Vs. Baghdatis
    • Berdych Vs. Rajeev Ram
    • Tsonga Vs. Llodra
    • Tipsarevic Vs. Davydenko
    • Federer Vs. Jaziri
    • Qualifier Vs. Qualifier

Tsonga Vs. Llodra should be fun. Things should start to get interesting from the 2nd round onwards on Federer's side of the draw (i.e. the lower half). The Djokovic side of the draw has 4 qualifiers. The non-seeds are scrubs like Rosol. One the other hand, the lower half of the draw will have more interesting matchups with Tomic, Llodra and Davydenko among others as the non-seeds.

Full Draw schedule here (PDF): http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2013/495/mds.pdf

Doubt Tipsy will get to the QF. More likely will be Federer V Tomic then the semis he'll play either Tsonga or Berdych, depending on who loses early in Marseille. Djoker's got a djoke draw again.

lol.. .to be fair Davydenko will probably take care of Tipsy in their first game. Roger beat him at the Aussie Open earlier this year, but Nikolay has been playing very well and this is a best of three tournament.

Delpo was taken out recently by Gilles Simon (i.e. Djokovic-lite)...

Should be a fun match nonetheless given their contrasting styles*.

I think this Dubai tournament will be interesting. lower half of teh draw as well as the final/semis should have close matches.

    * I'm surprised Delpo doesn't serve and volley more. Could be an interesting/useful change-up now and again.

Fed is playing tmr 7PM dubai time. Rarely do you see him playing on a first Monday in non-slam events. But after all this is a 500 event without byes and the final is on Saturday so I guess this is an exception.

Novak doesn't need a soft draw to win. He's won plenty of tournaments with steep draws (WTF, anyone?) So who would have been tougher than Delpo for him? Berd or Tsonga? ha ha. No.
Fed otoh is aging, so of course, pretty much all top players are becoming threatening for him. They can all beat him: Delpo, Berd, Tsonga, Murray, Djoko... Oops I forgot Benneteau

You gots to discuss the draw! Even for 500s.

Who each player is going to play is hardly trivial. All the 'xxx always gets the easiest draw' is a bit tedious, but it's mainly just from fans of the players involved, so you can't really begrudge them a bit of Serbian-/Swiss-tinted glasses :)

What makes Fed's draw tougher is not so much that Berdych or Tsonga will be that much tougher, if at all, than Delpo, but the fact that he is almost certain to face one of them in the semis, whereas Delpo may or may not fall early.
And then of course there's Tipsa -> Seppi, but that shouldn't be the deal-breaker.

Djoko as the favourite - as in every HC tournament he enters. And yes, he can win even with tough draws.

Def. yes. But whereas Fed was more or less guaranteed a spot in the semis, the winner of the Djoko, Murray group would have a much easier semi on paper (Delpo instead of Murray in this case - though Delpo played well).

So whereas the way to the semis was easier, you could argue that getting to the final was as tough if not tougher.
Not sure which one I adhere to - just pointing out that there's an argument for the opposite view as well.
