well this is exactly like 2010 in miami fed really shouldve won this match a while back but on the first match point he just put a weak slice out. I hope this turns out like toronto in 2010 when berdych was up 5-3 serving for the match and fed got him in the TB 7-6 but looking unlikely, i really thought fed was gonna win this.

That's really what gets to me. IMO Roger was the better player for atleast the first set and the last few games of the second. :(

One aggressive forehand could have ended this match 30 minutes ago.

Fed starting to press, has to go for it. Nerdy is pulling out some serves.

How does Nadal have an advantage on BPs (I assume you mean when the game gets to deuce) - because he's a lefty? Players can serve down the middle, not buying it.

Most players play conservatively when they have BPs. Nadal hardly plays the BPs differently compared to other points, albeit being a bit more cautious (but that's his style: to ask questions to his opponent: try and hit through me).
Federer, whose style is being aggressive, does become notably more cautious/complacent on BPs.

That's why you can't compare the two.

Rough. Though I feel like we've been expecting this 'three-set-Fed' for a while now.

Well, Nadal plays conservative overall. Federer has aggressive game for this era, I agree.

Players true color shows on crucial points, IMHO.

By looking at how Federer plays crucial points conservatively, Federer/Nadal era can be defined as a defensive tennis compared to other eras, IMHO.

Damn I really was looking forward to the Berd mental breakdown when Fed had 3 BPs at 5-5, another one of those matches where Fed should have got it done and dusted put way too passive on the important points again.

For **** sake we are deprived of good tennis tmr night, this piece of Birdsh!t will just bow out to Djoker again, how pathetic is this guy?

How many matches is Roger planning to lose to Berdych this season? I hope I don't have to see this guy in Roger's half at a slam this year. He can go on a "chickening-out" spree against the other big guys. I don't care. I don't want him jeering around like the master of the universe after and during his matches against Roger.

Have to agree (umpire did screw Berdman on an important point) but still I liked what I saw from Fed in stretches (unlike their USO match last year where Fed was just awful from start to finish), I still see him as a threat (to win slams) this season but we'll see how it goes.

I'll take that if I got most of the matches in easy straight sets. Rather than spending 1 hour on one set. If you know what I mean

Not sure how you can define a whole era on crucial points only. Do you think there are players who play the crucial points better than Nadal/Federer? There is a reason why these two players have dominated the 04-10 era. Who in your opinion is better than these two?

Djokovic is the only one that comes to mind as a player who is good at breaking the opponent (much due to him having the best return on tour). When it comes to saving BPs, Nadal, in my book, is still the best (think there are stats to back that up btw)

Well unless Djokovic has a REALLY bad day, he's going to add another win to his 2013.

Sad times for Federer tho, His performance in Aussie open was really good and it took a strong murray to take him down. Since then he's looked average with occasional moments of greatness. Still dont think we've seen the last of him, i reckon he might be able to snatch wimbeldon, maybe.

BTW, Nadal doesn't play conservatively on BPs (most of the time). Quite the opposite actually.

Damn... I really hope this isn't the start of Federer's "true" decline. I was giving him this year as his last chance to win a major/be a contender. Really needs to concentrate from here on out.

okay, I don't like Roger's chances at ANY slams this year. Last year I said he had a shot at Wimbledon and apart from his performance on all quick courts, the main reason was how strong he was on the big points. He was fighting like a lion out there, and WINNING the big points save a few losses here and there. This year his best chance is still W and USO but I'm going to put him even behind Nadal (despite his recent return) if his form doesn't pick up.

Yeah, I think he's gonna be ok. It just sucks worse because I feel like he should've won, especially on his MP on serve in the breaker, and I don't like Berdych. That's the "worse" part. I don't think I'd mind as much if it was Tsonga or Delpo beating him like this.

Fed has 4 Dubai titles actually.

Do you want me to pull out losses your idol had on "fast courts" at Fed's age?

Your "Fed is a slow court specialist" agenda is really getting annoying Fastdunn.

Nadal doesn't play aggressively on returns. Not on the first stroke anyway. BP or not. But yes, he does the play the overall point with more authority almost like he's daring the opponent to block him.

Federer was rude to him at Wimbledon 2010. Berdych isn't respectful of him.
