Something doesn't sound right in the article. I really thought the men's program at Mizzou has be totally gone since 1982. Maybe I missed that gap when they picked it back up between 1982 and 1998.

So I went to North Carolina for the weekend to visit my daughter and on Saturday I went over to check out the Wake Invite. First off that is an impressive facility, someone mentioned they are trying to host NCAA's. It's great for viewing and they have 8 indoor courts too, seems like a good option.
Most impressive guy I saw was Bogaerts and he didn't play, he was just practicing. Only watched him for a bit but looks like his serve has really improved since I watched him in Gville last year. I think he has a chance to win NCAA's before he graduates. Otherwise lots of good matches. Brett Clark from UNC looked good. So did 2 freshman from Wake Max Kan and Aws Laaribi. I checked the draws and saw they both won today, they are both impressive. I also watched some of Vick and Dumont. Vick looked steady but Dumont was off, he was really good when he played us last year but looks like a huge baby on court now. UNC and Wake both look like they will be better this year.

He's not in as an automatic qualifier but he's got a shot of getting 1 of the 3 wildcards depending on what happens this weekend at the other regionals.

In the past the wild cards have gone to the highest ranked players from the 1st set of individual rankings assuming they didn't make the finals of a regional. Last year the 3 wild cards went to Cunha, Jenkins, and Fanselow who were ranked 1, 2, and 3. Evan King who was ranked 4 did not make it.

With Giron ranked 6th he is in line for the 2nd wildcard behind Ryan Lipman but if 2 of the following 3 (Domijan, Kobelt, Bogaerts) either don't win a regional final or at least make the finals he could be left on the outside. Of course Lipman missed the Ohio Valley Regional with an injury so he may not be healthy enough to accept a wild card.

Clay T. is not in singles ? maybe another setup to keep him player low on the roster ... Billy Martin is too smart.. he out coached Peter Smith using Clay for past couple of years now .. I'm interested where will Clay play in the lineup .. too bad that 1 point lost the NCAA championship for UCLA ,Billy Martin got the most out of his players up to that 1 last point.. and where is Puget?

Clay won the back-draw at the All Americans so he's already qualified for NYC so there is no need for him to play.

If Rola doesn't come back which it sounds like he is not then I'd drop Ohio State down to 9 or 10 because they'd have a lot of spots to replace and I'm not sure who they have on the current roster that can replace Connor Smith, Devin McCarthy, and the #2 slot if Kobelt goes up to 1.

I think Florida has the potential to have a nice year if Hidalgo is ready to go and they get Newman back in the mix along with the freshmen that have played well so far (Lipman/Orkin).

Last I checked Texas is west of Louisiana and east of New Mexico.

Florida has some serious talent this year now whether they play up to the expectations is to be decided. I think Texas will be better than last year and I figure they're just sitting outside the top 10.

Where would you put them on the list?

Probably in the 11-15 range. Pepperdine lost a lot so the new guys would have to be really good.

Don't have an issue with the first five. After that there are too many question marks, especially with Duke. Lose the best player they ever had and pick up only Pura who hasn't been stellar in the fall as a singles player. Mengel is still a no-show and although Tahir is making an appearance where's Hemmeler and Saba in the draw? Are they both injured? Who's going to play one for them? Saba and Redlicki were both inconsistent point getters and both did very little in the summer (In fact Saba didn't play as far as I can see). Hemmeler was destroyed by Lin. And is Tahir a number six who got lucky in the Futures? At the moment I think they lose to UNC if Schnur plays in the Spring.
Was Hildago injured? I know Spencer was, but can he come back from another injury and play like he did two years ago when he was the most consistent point getter for Florida? The rest of the squad is decent, but not scary by any means.
Oklahoma seems fairly solid to me especially since Harris beat Singh, but still there are questions: What kind of player is Webb? Sometimes he plays great, other times gets weird results. Will a change in environment help Siegel play to the potential he started to show as junior? Will they have consistent results at the top of the order?
Tennessee is ok but I'm not sold on them. Only real new blood is Sean Karl but he's coming off a horrible health issue. Can he perform like he once did?
Baylor looks like they added two good foreigners. Rios is currently 793 and that's pretty darn good for an incoming freshman.
So I'll put Baylor at six and I'll skip the rest because I frankly don't know.

Hildago isn't eligible until January and Spencer had to sit out because he played for Michigan in the fall last year so he's not eligible until January too.

I was making my picks based off the premise that everyone was healthy so you are right Duke likely wouldn't be that high without a healthy Mengel/Tahir etc. Tennessee and Texas would be 10 and 11.

also with Oklahoma it seems like Alvarez and Alcorta have upped their games since last year. They will make a formidable middle to upper part of the line-up

duke may be similarly ranked this year compared to last few years, but definitely less upward potential

in the cunha years, i had the feeling they at least had a legitimate shot against anyone, even if underdogs against some of the USCs / UVAs etc - they showed that with a couple upsets of USC and giving UVA some scares like the 3-4 loss last year

this year, even if mengel were totally healthy and playing great by the end of the year, and even if tahir showed his summer form when it counted in NCAAs (unlike his flop vs UCLA last year that might have mattered)...they're still not a team that has a realistic shot of the NCAA semis or knocking off a top 2 or 3 team during the season...cunha is indeed a mighty loss that isn't anywhere near replaced

women will have the year worth watching this year in durham, if they all don't explode like last year

maybe they will be less susceptible to losses like UNC,Wake,Illinois and Cal they have had recently. The ceiling certainly won't be as high for sure.

Didn't mean he got lucky, lucky; but more like you said, he got on a run when something clicked. Maybe played over his head is what I was getting at. Strange player, if you ask me. Looked up all his Futures results and he's had a lot of good wins. He beat Christian Harrison and Filip Peliwo in Canada (that must have some match 7-6, 6-7, 6-4). I can imagine Peliwo had a great hometown crowd. Anyway, he has wins over Kobelt and Nick Meister, Spencer Newman, and Styslinger. Yet he can't get a ranking in college and is stuck playing six at Duke.

Also anybody have any idea what's up with Domijan? I don't think he's played at all during the summer, nor a college tournament so far.

He was going to play the ITA All-American in Tulsa, but dropped out to attend his aunt's funeral. He will probably get into the individual indoors tourney in November based on pre-season ranking, so I would imagine he is not playing the regional so that he won't be knocking out teammates who are trying to qualify.

I really wish many of the ITA Regional Sites would update their information. The guys are on top of it for the most part, but almost half the women's sites do not have draws posted much less results. Very frustrating when trying to follow results and very little is posted, **cough OU Women's Site, Auburn Women's Site ** cough**

The ITA's coverage is a joke as well. Only place with all the info is College Tennis Online. If a draw has been posted they have it listed.

I've started going to College Tennis Online first as well. ITA is consistently a disappointment.

As long as someone is putting the info out there I don't care where it comes from. My hats off to CTO.

I still find it odd that I still haven't seen him compete in any futures or college tournaments since the end of the ncaa's. Did he play in any money tournaments that you know of?

    From Zoo Tennis:

UCLA's Marcos Giron is not competing due to a hamstring injury suffered in the Tiburon Challenger last week, and at the Atlantic Regional hosted by Virginia Tech, preseason No. 2 Alex Domijan of Virginia is not in the field due to a recent foot injury.
