I usually do a match of the year thread early in the season and keep bumping it so people remember to post great matches as they happen. It can sometimes be hard to remember all the great matches at the end of the year. Also keeping track of great matches can help people looking for match videos worth watching from the season.

Don't see why Fed Tsonga at AO shouldn't make the list. Unfortunately not really any amazing matches at Miami or IW

    Nice post, amigo.
It there was a poll, I would vote for Djokovic vs. Wawrinka, especially because of the 4th set point, the match points saved by Wawrinka in the 5th set and the match point won by Djoko. :)

Maybe I'll include a poll at the end of the year, once all the matches have been played :)

Nominate it on the basis of an epic 5-setter with two great all court players? Why not?

    Miami:

    Haas vs Djokovic.

*Weak era* Veteran beats *Golden era* No. 1

Indian Wells, Del Potro beating Murray + Djokovic back to back after losing the 1st set in both matches.

Think Dimitrov v Nadal for Monte Carlo deserves a mention.

I think Delpo - Nieminen at MC deserves a nod, i was there sitting just 2 meters from the court and it was an amazing match as well as exciting. Nieminen did so many impossible winners.

The Nadal-DelPotro and the Nole-Delpo matches were better quality than the match you mentioned.
The haas-nole match wasnt very high quality. Nole played crap.
Murray played horrible in the MC match

For me, this one is easy. Blake v. Tsonga. Not a single boring point in the entire match.

I definitely think Zeballos/Nadal is in contention for biggest upset at this point.

Djokovic and Wawrinka in Australia for me personally. Murray v Federer was good too, any time Murray attacks the best players it usually turns into an entertaining match.

Fair point. I didn't include them due to quality, more that they were 'notable'.

Haha, you misinterpret me. I included it because it was a notable upset, not that it was high quality.

Another vote for Djokovic - Stan. Djokovic dug deep - thought he might pull the rip cord many times. And the match brought out the best in Stan.

The Ferrer vs. Almagro Australian Open quarter final was hilarious. Almagro had played so perfectly and served for a straight sets win, yet somehow ended up losing the match, despite having many more chances to win. An epic choke, to say the least. Almagro is now 0-13 against Ferrer in their head-to-head.

I definately wouldn't rate Gulbis-Nadal match as a noteworthy match of the year. Surprised to see that on the list.

I'd say Delpo-Nadal final was a lot better quality and more entertaining.

    Wawrinka vs. Djokovic, AO 2013.

If you have not seen that match - go and download it from somewhere. It was an epic thriller that does not get compared to AO 2009 or Wimbledon 2008 only because it was not Fedal playing it.

I haven't been too excited by too many of the matches this year.

    I guess, so far ...
    Djokovic-Warinka, AO
    Fed-Tsonga, AO
    DelPo-Djokovic, IW
    Nadal-Djokovic, MC

That Fed-Murray match needs its own bizarre category: Best fight to turn what should have been a routine three-setter into five-set epic

How about some female matches, too? I usually watch Maria and Williams sisters, so don't have that many to offer, but a few that stood out:

    Quality: Sharapova-Li, Stuttgart final
    Upset: Sloane-Serena, AO QF
    Comeback: Serena-Sharapova, Miami final
Great run:: Sharapova at AO, losing so few games till she hit Li (I love their matchups)

I'm sure there was something with Kvitova or Kuznetsova worth mentioning, too.
