Think the coaches want to save their players. After today I see why. Line #1 was still in Second Set after 2 hrs, my match was 2 sets 2 hrs and the other matches were 3 setters outside #2.
Kentucky is sneaky good, they may not look it but they are stout at all lines.

Think the coaches are smart to just stop and not risk wearing out their players, especially in the SEC where it is dog fights every weekend.

Agreed. Just looking at the UF-UGA match, there were very close matches at 1&2 amongst all ranked players. A win either way strengthens resumes for gaining post season entry or seeding for individuals. 2 players in those matches lose out on that benefit.

Plus, I would think coaches want to know if they are 4-3 or 7-0 better than their opponent. Gives a more clear view of where your team is as a whole. I'm not a fan of stopping a regular season match. These kids are all working on getting better for a peak in May. They get mixed feedback when matches aren't played out.

That quote was from a long time ago, and I don't see any mention of him being "so special"

A good recruit that doesn't appear to have earned a starting spot this year

Your agenda for quoting from the distant past and putting words in my mouth?

SEC has been wild this year, really no clear favorite and it could be anyone's game depending on who shows up. Vanderbilt had an impressive showing this weekend.
Think UGA and KY are the favorites right now, but who knows anymore with all of the upsets

    Rankings

UCLA and USC swap spots again. Kentucky up to 4. Vandy up to 13. Mississippi State lost twice last week and they go UP 1 spot. Clemson up 10 spots to 15.

    New Rankings

I am surprised at some of the rankings, the MS schools I thought would fall further. Vandy moving up not surprising.
Baylor still yo-yoing around. Think KY/UGA are the favorites. 7 SEC in Top 16 and 4 ACC in Top 16.

i know we have a lot of SEC fans in here, so maybe this won't go over well, but that conference is not as great this year as these rankings try to make us believe

not one single SEC team won a main draw match that wasn't against another SEC team in indoors (0-5 in the main draw, not counting the 2 wins and 2 losses coming from the two SEC vs SEC first rd matchups)

the rankings weigh wins far too heavily relative to losses in my opinion, which sets up perfectly for a deep conference like the SEC where everyone is beating everyone...(yes, they are the deepest conference in tennis, not arguing that)...so every week we have situations where a team like Ole Miss can lose a couple times and boost a couple other SEC teams (Kentucky up 6 spots, Vanderbilt up 10 spots) while barely suffering by themselves (only down from 4 to 7)

to use a Barney-ism from How I Met Your Mother - the SEC looks nice this year via the "cheerleader effect" - they're deep and make eachother look great in the rankings because everyone is picking up lots of nice victories, but none of them seem all that impressive to me...

seriously, UK is the highest ranked of them all right now and they showed they can lose to the Illini and can suffer back to back 6-1 and 4-0 losses to Baylor and A&M, teams ranked 29 and 14

SEC tennis: pretty great collectively, meh individually

I agree - the SEC has a lot of good teams this year but no great/elite ones - none that can beat Virginia, USC, UCLA, or Ohio State.

glad you were able to take that not as a complete attack - definitely the deepest conference and one I wish Duke could join for tennis to see more exciting matches every week

but yeah, the way the rankings are computed, having a conference where anyone can beat anyone is just a rising tide that lifts everyone's rankings

I'm not sure why Miss State moved up. They are the glaring over-ranked team.

I do agree with Mikej that wins are valued too much over losses. Like A&M loses to #68 but only drops to 14 and can easily move back to 11 in a couple weeks, almost like they never lost.

SEC is the deepest and the conference I would most enjoy seeing my team play in, as I said above - so I think that already indicated that I think they're the best

    but

    1) there is approximately a zero percent chance that they will have a team in the NCAA finals this year, and depending on the draw I would say very unlikely they have a team in the semis (assuming they dont get to play eachother in quarters, but rather have to go through teams like UVA, USC, UCLA, OSU - which may not be the case)

    and

    2) if someone said to me (this is an extremely likely situation, so listen up): "go stand on the rail of the golden gate bridge - now a great college tennis team I have assembled is going to be playing two matches for your life - if they win both, you can step down - if they lose even one of the two, you have to jump to your death - which conference do you want me to pick your two opponents from?"

i would say SEC way way before i said PAC-12 or ACC...UVA comes up = big trouble, and Duke is as good as any team in the SEC...USC or UCLA come up = i'm in trouble, and Cal is just as good as any team in the SEC (they beat up UF 4-1 about to be 5-1 at Indoors)...no one in the SEC individually scares me the way the top of those other conferences does - and i think the top teams will treat them in NCAAs the same way they treated them in indoors

and i would say Big 10 after SEC also - OSU scares me more than any team in SEC, and Illinois already showed they can beat the highest ranked SEC team so they're in the mix with the top SEC teams as well (even if the Vols have had their number)

Agree as far as overall depth goes the SEC is it. It's only a matter of a year or so that things could swing back their way to have a top 4 type team(s) depending on recruiting. I would only disagree in that I see at least one or two SEC teams making the quarters at the NCAA this year. However as little luck of the draw will have to work for them. But I think they have enough teams good enough between 6-12 best type that two will make it through.

For fun, I would like to see FL play Cal outdoors. Pick FL. Maybe I'll get my wish at the NCAA's

For a final 4 I would go with your UVA, USC, UCLA, OSU as my pick to make it to this round.

I did mis-read. Thanks. BTW when FL beat UTK, was that indoors or out? Trivial I know............

At this time it appears just about any result seems possible in the SEC this year without a clear dominant team in the mix.

well, because UVA is in the ACC, but they're trying, we'll see if they can pull off the always daunting task this Friday in Cville

of course FSU is in the ACC also, which isn't particularly a problem for Duke, but they were too tough for your Texas boys earlier this month

Not sure I'm following the rational here saying the SEC is easy to win. In the SEC today who will easily win it? Are talking about "candy and nuts" and magically inserting USC, Ucla, UVA or OSU in there?

If the season ended today 11 of the 16 hosts would be in the southeast/Atlantic region. That will cause a lot of travel for some teams.

Notre Dame goes 3 sets in 4 of the singles matches and the other 2 matches go to a tiebreaker in one of the sets. I would agree with TD that is a pretty decent match.
