Looking forward to seeing UGA move up to #2 in a couple hours - I need a good laugh today
I wonder how far Ole Miss will jump up after taking their 3 spot drop penance for losing to LSU last week. All forgiven now.
Clemson, Stanford dominated the doubles matches over the weekend, against top teams like UCLA and USC. I think that alone gives the Cardinal the bid to enter the tournament. What do you think ?
well you don't get points for losses. but I think Stanford has a chance to make the tournament. They can beat Cal or Washington if they can play well. A win over one of those teams will probably get their ranking within the bubble zone.
Guess it is a reprieve that the formula opted for some sanity,
UCLA and USC back at 2 & 3 respectively.
UGa Moved down to #4, followed by OSU up from #7.
Computer Points seem to fluctuate wildly each ranking period.
There were no quality wins that were earned by OSU this week.
But, a different number of wins counts each week, keeps increasing as season moves on
Ucla actually pretty close to UVA in points now, will be interesting as they have more potential for big wins moving forward, though hopefully UVA would get 1 seed if only undefeated regardless of ITA computers
Allright Awsome. We hope to see you guys there as well. We will meet at University of Illinois.
I really want to see Illiniois make it to the final 16 in Champaign, which at one time looked fairly reasonable. I'm not so sure now.
Still very possible, as there seems to be a huge chunk of teams from 11-30, all of which could make the Rund of 16. Maybe IL will get a "beneficial" regional.
I thought NC State would jump higher than they did.
Florida moves up 3 spots for losing to LSU
#5 Ohio State at #8 Kentucky - 2pm est - Livestats&Blog
#63 Purdue at #69 Indiana - 2pm est - Livestats
Looks like the weather in Lexington is supposed to be right around 50. Hopefully they'll play it outdoors because it is supposed to be sunny.
John, where is a good place to park over there? Looks like parking structure 7 is right by the courts.
Gonna record some Jomby/Kobelt action?
That's the plan. Ought to be some big serves and short points.
Sheesh! 5 hour drive on a Wednesday. TopDawg is our resident troubadour, the man that makes his own job.
I'd pay him if we collected dues. He's practically the board-host.
I think of him as the board daffy duck
what does that even mean?
Top Dawg, that is the closest. It's going to run you 10 dollars over all but not too bad for the location. Otherwise you would have to go to one of the 3 permit locations and pay $2.50. The parking with those is 200 yards or so further and you're not always guaranteed a spot. I'll be most likely coming in late, either in the middle or after doubles. I slightly overweight Japanese guy. I always sit on the right side bleachers 4 or 5 seats up.
Luckily they play on the second court. UK sucks for spectating with bleachers lining court one.
There are plans to build 2 more courts and have seating on one side behind all the courts, but that's still in the planning/financing stage.
OSU vs. UK will be a critical match for the Buckeyes, since they will not likely have any other opportunities to gain victories vs. ITA top 25 teams this year.
Buckeyes will have to be 10% better at UK to gain a victory on Wed.
The double's point will be a key for both teams, and the point could be decided at #2, #27 ranked OSU team of McCarthy and VanEngelen will face Rossi and Roberts.
Buckeyes should have the advantage at #3 where Rola and Metka are undefeated.
UK may have a slight advantage at #1, OSU's Smith and Kobelt are #13 ranked vs. UK's pair of Jomby & Lai (ITA #19).
Blaz Rola and Peter Kobelt have alternated at #1 for the year.
Kobelt is 5-1 at #1, 8-1 at #2 in 2013. Rola is 12-0 at #1, 4-0 at #2.
I am guessing that Coach Tucker will play Junior Blaz Rola at #1 vs. Rossi, and Junior Peter Kobelt at #2 matched up with Jomby.
The lower portion of the OSU lineup has improved in 2013, led by senior #3 Devin McCarthy (16-2) who is having a strong year since moving up from #5 in 2012.
At #4 is Senior Connor Smith (18-3) who has earned an ITA ranking of #43 and #5 is Redshirt Freshman Chris Diaz who has earned an ITA ranking of #59 although that was achieved mostly from stellar play in the Fall of 2012.
At #6 singles, Tucker has rotated Hunter Callahan (12-2) and Freshman Constantin Christ (10-0).
Going out on a limb here, but this Buckeye fan will predict OSU wins by a 4-3 final with UK wins at #2, 4, and 5 singles.
Buckeyes will win at #1, 3, and 6.
The deciding albeit first point will be captured at 2nd doubles where OSU takes a victory to complement a win at #3 doubles to gain the double's point.
Vik, we think of you as the .......... not worth taking the time. Bring some actual content to the board and I'll respond to one of your posts. Right now you're sitting on the hot seat for posters that may get canned in May. Not sure you're going to make the cut.
Vik = Village idiot
Top Dawg, pretty much, makes this board a reliable place to find information. I use this thread to follow college tennis more than the schools individual websites.
Vik, you add incredibly little to be persecuting others.
OSU-Kentucky should be a doozy
Maybe we recreate some of those mid 80s battles, Kriese's best ever teams lost to Stanford 5-4 in the quarters 3 years in a row.
I'm looking forward to The Dawgs beating Duke silly in the NCAAs. Mengel and Saba will look hopeless when they hear that woof woof.
I do think TopDawg is a little too soft-spined for a UGA fan for my liking but he does give good info and he's a fellow Dawg fan.
I'd love to see UGA across the net from Duke in NCAAs this year in the quarters, especially in a non-Athens year
Doesn't look like that's shaping up to be a possibility though
1. Lai serving 4-4
2. Rossi serving 1-6
Bucks go up a break on 1, kobelt serving up 5-4
bucks won 8-1 at 2
Thanks for the updates TopDawg.
What are the weather conditions like at UK?
Rola-Metka win 8-4 at 3. Ohio St takes the doubles point. They are playing outdoors
Sunny and right at 50 degrees, small breeze but not too bad.
Small crowd maybe 100 or so
Ohio State lineup: rola, kobelt, McCarthy, smith, Diaz, christ
UK livestats lists Kobelt at #1, Rola at #2.
I am not getting any action on the Live blog.
New Livestats update with Rola at 1, Kobelt at #2,
thank you again Topdawg for the live reports,
Jomby serving up 2-1 at 2
Jomby and Kobelt played 3 games in the time it took Rola to hold in his opening service game
About the same at IU but they are indoors and Purdue takes the doubles point.
Connor Smith serving up 5-4 40-0
McCarthy serving up 5-2
Roberts comes back to break 5-5 at 4
McCarthy takes the 1st set 6-2
Diaz up a break in the 2nd set on 5
Buckeyes rolling right now up 2-0. Diaz won 7-5 6-0
SEC insulation being exposed
Seven minutes later, it is still 7-5, 5-0 on the "Live"Stats.
The livestats did award point #2 to Auburn however.
Still holding out hope. Looking into possible appeals to the umpire.
