Have there ever been more dominant favorites than Rafa and Serena? 27-2 and 16-0 respectively on clay this year.

Post early predictions and thoughts now. Opening post will be updated with information and draws upon their release (likely Friday).
Poll closes before the tournament starts (on Sunday) so we don't have any retroactive clairvoyants.

May the Mythical Swiss Eagle - Roger - and the Son of God - Novak - join forces to dethrone the King, or rather the God, of Clay.

We can only hope it'll happen.

I don't mind if Rafa won Wimbledon or US Open this year. Just stop hogging the FO.

I'd much rather he take RG than Wimbledon. I don't think the defense will hold up as well on the faster surfaces (as usual). I'm also surprised by how much he's been playing in the last few months, it's quite remarkable. There's reason to believe he'll be burned out by the end of the summer.

The only human that can put an end to this insane freak of nature is Djokovic. If he cannot do it, no one is stopping Nadal.

What will the Tennis Gods say?

Is it the will of the heavens for Nadal to win an 8th French title?

Or will there be a new champion?

Surely, Delpo should have recovered by then. He only had URTI? He should be good by now.

There was an article today in an Argentinian newspaper saying, iirc, the recovery was taking longer and that the possibly of him playing was being avoided. I can't find the article again, sorry. Hope he recovers in time, though.

Yeah, if there's any silver lining in this match, it's that Nadal will now be more rightfully seeded at RG. I'm sure Roger is happy that they'll be on opposite sides. Although I get the feeling Andy will withdraw just to keep up his reputation of trolling.

One of the greatest threads :)

But actually, if Murray withdraws there's still a 50% chance Federer doesn't meet Nadal or Djokovic before the final, which is the same as when Murray wouldn't withdraw.

Theoretically at least, we all know Djokovic will draw Ferrer again in that scenario!

But with Murray playing Federer and Nadal are on the opposite sides of the draw. I prefer it that way + there's a 50/50 chance Djokovic is drawn with Nadal in one half (which I know won't happen but one can hope).

The draw is going to be a big factor for RG this year, only 2 of the top 4 i see making a semi final this year. (Novak and Rafa) If Murray plays then him making a QF would be impressive concidering he's carrying an injury. Federer usually switches it on for grand slams but there are so many players currently hitting good form in the clay season that i think an upset could easily be on the cards from any of these players.

Dimitrov was looking good but im not sure how well he will cope with 4-5 set matches concidering he cramped up in 2 sets vs Djokovic. Could cause an early upset.

Paire had a great run at rome and given a few lucky breaks he could maybe cause an early upset.

Wawrinka could be the dark horse here, he has been in excellent form and we know how he has pushed Djokovic before at AO, High chance of an upset.

Berdych like Warwrinka has been in good form in the clay season and given a kind draw, he could be a threat.

I think its high time we saw someone new win. We need a youngster to break the top 4 and and warn them that their time is running out. I would love to see Fed win but Dimitrov will be second on my list in terms of who I want to win.

But I think Nadal will get this and if not maybe...just maybe Djokovic

I think the next new slam winner will be either Dimitrov or Jerzy Jancowiz (I know I probably spelt it wrong, still getting to know him, lol!). If there is even one in the next 4 or 5 years that is. I would like Nishikori but he doesnt have enough firepower I think.

I would much rather him win Wimbledon and the U.S Open than the French too, however reality is the French is by far most likely, although if he wins the French he has a great shot at WImbledon this year too (the U.S Open is a longer shot obviously).

I'm picking Gulbis (if the draw allows it) and Wawrinka to go far here.

In fact Gulbis can beat almost anyone and is by far and away the most dangerous unseeded player. (Given his newfound consistency counts in bo5 matches as well)

He is 32 and its best of 5.His chances of winning it are very less and at this stage of his career getting to finals and semi finals shouldn't really mean much, whereas in wimby he is the defending champion and is one of the favorites.

I don't see that happening this year. Rafa looks too strong. Gulbis types can give him scares but go the distance? In a best of 5? Not likely. It's not like Nadal is getting old. 26 is still very young. Murray is injured and hasn't overcome the surface hurdle, rather the opposite actually, Fed is not getting any younger, Delpo has looked like sleeping beauty lately (when does he wake up?), Djoko's form has been subpar on the whole and at the very least erratic (and RG has never been his best event ), Berd could cause 1 upset, but several? + he is useless vs Nadal , Wawa withdrew from Rome with injury (not looking promising for RG), Ferrer has a major hang-up vs the top 4, Dimi lacks the stamina. Who else? French players? They haven't shown any mental improvement that I can notice.
To me, this year more than ever, Nadal looks like a lock (bar unpredictable injury).

Even though I am a Nadal fan I really want Djokovic to get RG at some point to complete his set of career big titles on clay. I was super happy he wont Monte Carlo this year and not worried for Rafa, I knew he would bounce back. I hope he gets RG at some point though, I am fine with Nadal winning this year, but I hope one of the next three (atleast) Djokovic wins it if he doesnt this year.

If Rafa is not gonna win the FO this year, I'd rather have Ferrer win it or Murray (if he is not injured still) or even Tsonga or Stan the Man.

    +1

For me Rafa is a lock for RG unless Djoker can come back to his 2.0 mode. Anything less would be a cake walk for Rafa.

It's really hard to predict how Novak will perform this year. He's had a string of bad losses as of late (Haas-Dimitrov-Berdych from 6-2 5-2 up) but he really stepped up against Nadal in Monte Carlo. I could see Novak losing before the QFs to an on fire opponent like Gulbis, but if he gets to the semis and Rafa is there, I like his chances. I don't think the draw has ever been as important in recent years.

I also want Novak to win RG. Actually I want Novak to win the career slam/masters, that is win RG and Cincy. He's so close and that's 1 record he deserves imo. I'd rather it didn't happen at Rafa's expense of course but if for any reason Rafa couldn't do it, I would want Djoko to be the one.
Anyway I can't see it happening this year with the way Djoko has struggled vs lesser opponents. Since I also want Rafa to make it 8 at RG, I'm not gonna complain. I just hope Nole will have an RG in the bag by the time he retires. I also feel like he deserves a second USO title after all the finals he's played there.

Dimitrov doesn't have the stamina at this point. Jerzy has better stamina, but lacks tactics, I think he'll do better than any other up comer. Gulbis may do something interesting, and I see him in Rafa's quarter.

Why lose the QF streak when you can maintain it?? Also Fed doesn't need break, 7 weeks were enough. He is getting rusty. Though i agree he should not tax his body a lot in RG.

The polish cannon Janowicz will emulate Soderling/Rosol, firing winner after winner and producing beautifully crafted drop shots to claim an epic 5 set victory over Nadal. Let's just hope they're in the same bracket.
