What a spectacularly imaginative and engaging design the Stepmeister's doubles-winning shirt is: it speaks directly to the city and its people. A polyester Gershwin.
Your eyes can't help but be drawn by the design, an attention-grabbing visual which cannot be said of the sea of Dri-Fit colostomy bags and Clima-cool sandwich wrappers which surely by now litter the Hudson River.
Sure, the design itself is the same Manhattan skyline as that featured on millions of IKEA poster frames (I know, I have one) but ALEA's designers have adapted it perfectly as a piece of apparel.

This is the kind of simple yet creative design sorely missing in tennis apparel, and why I willingly pay extra for colourful golf shirts to play tennis in. Yes, I'm a loud golfshirt kinda guy. I really wish I could buy this and ALEA's back-catalogue of cool shirts.

ALEA's 2012 U.S Open shirt was just as spectacular:

Horrid. I rank it right up there with Novak's shirts from a couple of years ago that has his pic or other gawd awful designs on them.

Some of Nole's Tacchini shirts were justifiably bad: the tryhard flameball treatment, the wannabe Ed Hardy dooshery and the sacriligous tampering of Tacchini's enduring McEnroe-era archive. The Nole Face was the worst agreed.

Here, ALEA is merely referencing the vibe of NYC and putting it on a shirt that max, will get two weeks of exposure. It's topical and local. No bad thing. I predict and hope that ALEA will next year do something with a giant red apple in the middle of Stepanek's chest. ALEA design geniuses, are you listening?

I can see why some would consider it "horrid", but I kind of love it. I don't think the designer is honestly thinking this is the best looking shirt. It seems to be more tongue-in-cheek over-the-top, not to be taken seriously. A playful representation of NYC and the USO open.

Yes, I suspect someone inside ALEA's design studio is having a right laugh. I think it suits Step's personality very well - there is an irreverence about both him and the design. Definitely a statement shirt as opposed to mainstream seller.

I like it. It's different, and I don't see myself wearing something so busy, but I'm sure there are people who can pull off. They say, "The clothes make the man.", but I say, "A real man makes the clothes."

Like others have said, I probably wouldn't wear those designs but at the same time, they're definitely more avante garde than the other boring designs from others like Nike...

Here's the link to see them from Alea's site:

I'm no expert on the true Pantone colour references of the American flag, but the USO 2014 shirts don't strike me as an "American" red white and blue combo. More like a continuation of the Czech red white and blue Davis Cup shirts??
It's as if the Czech designer didn't bother to alter the colour settings on his design software, and just retained the settings from "Czech Davis Cup Uniform colours"

Does the rear eagle crest thing have any association with New York? Is it the state crest of NY? If so, that's a nice touch. I wonder what is on the reverse of the Wall St "Bull" shirt?

However I think I prefer the 2013 and 2012 designs.

P.S Michael Valek thanks for your PM which I just noticed. I will reply to you shortly.
