The rematch arrives.
Vika's serve isn't where it needs to be. Serena's is.
Serena in 2 tight sets, 6-4 7-6.
Serena has only hit 25 aces so far this tournament which is very unlike her since last year. I think that Serena will get the first set, relax and lose the second set, then narrowly win the last.
If Vika wins the first set, I think Serena will lose her 17th major.
Queen Aneres in 3.
Serena in 2, 6-2, 6-3
Azarenka not playing as well as 2012 US. Serena playing better than 12 US.....so should be a route.
If Serena wins, it will likely be a beatdown in at least one set, and a closer second. If Aza wins, it will likely take her three sets to do the job.
Serena will take it 4 and 3. 1 hour 33 mins.
Unless Serena footfaulted like 173 times, it will be one tough uphill battle. Vika got lucky last time winning the tb. Luck cannot be on her side all the time.
Serena choked last time, and was only saved by Vika choking even more when serving for the match (TWICE).
Vika hasn't played as well as Serena so far in this tournament, so that leads me to believe Serena pretty easily. However, she was playing even worse just before she beat Serena a couple weeks ago. So I guess 50/50 if Serena wins easily or Vika pulls it out in 3.
Last time they played... in Cincy
Serana in two very tight, very close, very sweaty sets.
Haa! All joking aside, I see a real struggle coming--but at the end, more evidence (not that it was needed) of how Serena and Victoria are so far above everyone else.
I think it will be a good, competitive match. I'm going to take Vika in 3. I think she finishes the job this time around.
Straigh set win for Serena.
What time do they play?
I hope Vika but cant say Im all that pumped for the match.
I don't like either of their arrogant personalities. But I like Serena's game
and all things being equal, I'd go with my fellow American. Destroy that Belarusian ...........Arrogant Queen Aneres
Yes this match will be another boring match, very predictable
Serena has the home court advantage so pressure is on her to win.
A rematch. It would be sweet if Azarenka wins this time. I think she deserves a title here. She just needs to stay in the game mentally and emotionally. But if I were to pick. I'd say Serena winning this in 3 close sets.
This is on Serena's racquet. If she plays smart, I don't see Azarenka winning. Serena would have to lose it more than Azarenka winning it.
Azarenka can break Serena on the games where Serena isn't landing first serves. At the same time Azarenka's serving hasn't been that good for a while.
Best server vs best returner of serve. We shall see who prevails tonight.
It's the match I wanted to see. Though Li would give Serena a better match. But, good result nonetheless. Also, great job by Pennetta to reach the SF. Flavia has how made 3 USO QFs and 1 SF, while never making it past the round of 16 at any of the other Slams. Obviously, it suits her.
I just hope this is competitive. Serena will win, but I don't want to see another beat down, especially in the final.
I think this will go to at least 3 sets, with 1 tie break.
Upset that Vika beat Flavia, so Go Serena.
Omg I watched Serena's presser from yesterday. She was no nonsense, not the Serena that jokes around. Someone asked (all quotes are close but not exact due to laziness): "Vika says you make her play her best and she thinks she makes you play your best. Do you agree wih that assessment? Do you play your best tennis against her?" Pause. "I definitely think she plays her best tennis when she plays me. I've seen her play other players, and when I play her I'm playing a different player. So obviously yeah she plays her best game." End of subject. LOL!
Play your best tomorrow, Serena! We want to see it! I feel like their last match neither played their best...hope they're both firing on all cylinders tomorrow.
crap, did she serve for it twice? I only remembered once. was it at 5-4 and 6-5?
Go Vika. Show who's BOSS!
Really badly want Aza to win. Serena really is not a good person. Ridiculously arrogant, loud mouth.
This imho is anybody's match.
If she is focused and playing her 'A' game, it's Serena.
But Azarenka can slug with Serena and is capable of beating her and Serena knows that and that's why Serena is capable of getting tight in crunch time.
That said, I hope Serena crushes Ms. Owen Wilson Nose.
Serena is the heavy favorite and has shown infinitely superior form during this fortnight. I'm still hoping for a competitive match. Vika will have to serve MUCH better than she has in the previous rounds though.
In my opinion, Serena is a different (better) player at the GS. But of course, Kim Clijsters and Sam Stosur managed to beat her before at the US Open.
Azarenka is no angel either. She's matured over the past few years, but she's not going to win the WTA Fan Favorite Player award anytime soon.
I just want a good match to come out of this. At this point, I don't really care who wins. I root for Vika usually, so if she wins it sends a sign to the tour that someone is ready to contest Serena's throne. If Serena wins, it's further confirmation that she is the most clutch player in slams of all time.
If you asked me before the tournament I would say I want Azarenka to win, but really I can't cheer for someone in that outrageous "fat grandma" outfit.
Maturity drops another level.
There's just absolutely nothing about this match that interests me except for the chance of Serena adding another title to her growing total. For heaven's sake, though - someone has to step up on the women's side. Serena in three.
If Vika is getting crushed maybe she will taken an MTO to compose herself.
Or maybe Serena (there's an ironic name), if under pressure, will threaten to kill a line judge again.
In either case, who cares which one wins? It's not as if either of them is very likeable.
There's no "good guy" to root for in this match.
No one is begging you to watch. Meanwhile, everyone else will watch the final in peace.
Vika is going to win it, she threw it away last year, this year she has more confidence.
Last year's final was one of the best WTA matches in the last few years, Azarenka served for the title if I'm not wrong, hope for a good match, go Vika!
Serena in straight sets.
I could see this happening. It just depends on how Azarenka starts. She's had some shaky starts this US Open. Against Serena, that's not going to fly.
Plus, I always get the sense watching Serena matches that she's always in control, even when her opponent has a little momentum.
Vika will win 2-6 6-4 7-5
that was true the other 5 times she won....
Azarenka is serving bad.
She had been broken 19 times since the beginning of the US open.
OK, WTA players get broken more than men, but still 19 times for a top 5 player, that's bad, Serena will destroy her.
I'm just hoping for a battle, and the finalists know how to bring that more than anyone else.
that will be a very close match. azarenka is always close to serena, she is mentally very strong, while serena sometimes lets the pressure get to her in NY. azarenka did not play well but she usually rises to the occasion.
I think serena is a slight favorite but not by much.
The wait is so painful!
Azarenaka will choke once again.
