I'm not playing to win this, I'm just playing to make it to the second week. That's all I really care about.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I picked Azarenka, and then when she was down a break in the 3rd set I was like, yup welcome to the WTA. Where even picking the world #1 in the 4th round against an unseeded player is no safe bet.

The thing is that "safe bets" are not always guaranteed even in the ATP. No one suspected that Del Potro will go down to Chardy today. Hell, no one expected Nadal to lose to Rosol at Wimbledon.

At least Azarenka was able to right the ship when she needed to and still prevailed.

    Kerber take me out :(
It's been fun the whole week anyway.
    Good Luck for the rest.

    Kerber epically stunk....LOL
Makarova barely survives being outtchoked by Bartoli and then that? She got lucky..shes ok but to flighty.

Ah well...my run was fun while it lasted :)

I only saw it from 2-2 in the 2nd set. Not super quality, but I enjoyed both players running all over, the angles, and Kerbs with her variety, even if she wasn't executing great overall.

The first set was a total gagger. Makarova had a 5-2 lead then lost it, Kerber got to 5-5 then lost it...I cannot believe Kerber didn't pounce more at those 2 break points at 3-4...then after she blew them she checked out totally. It was not a great match. Makarova has played like C level the last 2 matches and escaped...that will change in the QF if she doesn't up her game.

appears that after this round only 3 at the best or 1 at the worst are left, and 2nd week not even began

Well I'm out ,but I'm not disappointed. Radwanska was a logical choice, but I could not bet against Ivanovic :) Good luck guys

OK, so with the knockout of Serena, this is how it is going to go:

dcdoorknob: only have Sharapova as a pick remaining
romeo8880: have both Li and Sharapova remaining
    TopDawg: only have Sharapova remaining

So in essence, no one is going to win this edition of the WTA SDL lol

Well, with Sharapova's lost. This event is now over. I will update the rankings on Sunday.

I took the liberty of updating the scores since I have a bit of free time. If anyone notices a mistake in their score, please bring it up. I'm still learning the ropes. :)
