folks there is no way around it. 2014 is the most significant year in tennis history.

this is the year that will decide if nadal is going to remove Federer permanently for those GOAT discussions that the press and the media so often like to push to sell their stories.

it is clear enough to me that nadal is better than roger. it is not rocket science. there is no way around 21-10. head to head has to matter the most in this individual sport. nadal has him in 6 of 8 slam finals on all 3 surfaces. and he has beaten him a few other times too at slams.

but 17-18 majors for nadal makes it a absolute slam dunk case and effectively shuts down all the Federereeeeeeesian missionary shops around the globe.

so that being said and extrapolating from that, the first slam becomes the single most important slam of 2014:

    1. if nadal wins it, his chances of hitting 17 slams skyrocket instantly. remember that 2 is all he needs for 2014 and he is in.

after that he will have 2-3 years to grab 2-3 more.

    2. also by winning it he effectively shuts down the nole shop and keeps him in check. this way nadal can continue his assault on tennis history.

all this leads to me to believe that nadal is going after this slam. this is why he has such a brutal schedule ahead. he wants to get as many matches under his belt as possible.

I don't believe he will be stopped. he can meet nole only in the final. and there is no guarantee nole will get there. and this time it will be different if nole does get there. he will be under intense pressure in so many ways.

nadal has figured out nole. it will be near impossible for nole to deal with nadal again in best of 5 sets environments.

so are you ready yet for my most amazing prediction?

say hello to #14 sports fans. it is happening. you can make book on it.

you have the floor. lets get this party started.

have fun and have at it. lets hear what you have to say on this matter.

Next year you can expect injury after an early loss. He has been really close at FO over Novak. Not next year.

so now we are going to hang our hat on possible injuries?

forget about it. he is well enough at the moment.

so yes he is coming and there is no place to hide.

The more you hype up Rafa the worse its going to be. Let the man enjoy what he got this year and see how IW and the beginning of Clay court season go this time around before you go on and say this is Nadal's 2011.

I am just making a big prediction for the next slam which will be here soon.

I think nadal is on a quest. he is going to take it.

so who has the balls to make a prediction for the upcoming Australian open?

I say nadal in 4 sets over nole and that is if nole even makes the final.

he had a nice run there. now it is coming to an end.

and I am going to go on record, here and now, and say that nole wont make the final at Oz.

a bottle of 12 year old scotch.

we will keep this simple. I would not want you going broke.

the odds are probably out already for Oz.

Nothing has indicated that Djokovic won't reach the finals at Oz besides him losing in the finals at the USO. He's still a heavy favorite to many people because he's had the most success at that tournament. I think it'll be a rematch of the 2012 final, and Djokovic will win in 5 sets.

if it does end up being a rematch, it is not going to 5 sets.

it will be nadal in 4 sets or straight sets.

I think I am fairly safe in saying this because I have seen it other forums.

all roger fans will become nole fans at the Australian open.

they tried that bogus nonsense for RG too for the last 2 years. needless to say but it did not work out for them.

that is nothing but shameless disrespect for roger, their own player.

I'm a Roger fan and I'm still rooting him on. But I'm pretty sure he won't make it to the finals the way he's been playing. I'll also be cheering on Del Potro, Murray, and Wawrinka!

i think nadal is going to try all out for AO 2014, as well as Wimbledon. i think he has hit upon the right balance of points he can lose and points he must win. this season, imo, i think he did not quite prepare for grasscourt season partly because he knew there wasn't much in it for him in terms of ranking. his basic points strategy is to maintain 9500-11000 at any point in time. this he can do by "sacrificing" about 1/3 of the tournaments each year, and cycle through them the next year.

Djokovic is favorite at AO. Nadal will be winning zero points off his serve on plexicushion and Djokovic proved he can grind him down.

You are probably right on this one, djokovic is very strong at the AO. Rafa's 2013 HC season is still fresh in my memory, I got carried away. May the best man win.

Maybe we should all learn from a famous Rafa quote: "I don't give a damn who the favorite is" :D

OP is a Vamos Brigade tool. The thread is not wort answering. Same old overhyping of Nadal and underrating of Djokovic.

I am not surprised he was banned on some other tennis forums. The same should be done here as well.

You do realize that Nadal could have 25 slams and be 40-0 against Federer, and a lot of us would rather watch Federer in 50 straight matches losing than watch Nadal once right? Just because in your mind or whoever elses Nadal becomes the "GOAT" does not mean he is the best player to watch, or represent the highest level of tennis ever.

Give up dude, only you care.

this year is different sports fans.

    get grounded in reality fast.

nadal is on a tear and he has finally and effectively shut down the nole shop.

did you forget that nadal nailed your god to the wall here in 2009? roger--according to brad gilbert--was playing as well he ever had.

it was one of the greatest hard court matches ever played.

well nadal has learned a thing or two from all his experiences. he will be favorite for the title at the Australian open this time and I believe he delivers.

nadal is just better than nole. you are going to have to just embrace that fact and live with it.

I don't know much about this vamos brigade site. I have never visited it.

I did get the perma ban from mtf around 2 years ago but I never did anything wrong.

now I have my own forum which will take 2-3 years to develop. I am starting from ground zero.

and in the mean time I am enjoying this place and a couple of other places as well.

    Mate...a bit over the top!?

Wait for WTF, see how the top 10 finish this year.

Rafa is a week by week basis, depends on his knees...

Lots of the players by end of November are going to be managing niggles & muscle soreness. Except for Muzza who should be still recovering from back surgery:)

The Oz Open is always hard to predict because Hopman, Brisbane, Auckland & Sydney are just not enough form indicators...whoever gets in an injury free prep in has to be favourite. Last year Novak managed it & succeeded in helping Nadal to injury himself so badly he needed 6 months to fully recover!

Nadal has been cutting back his on court training for years.
Despite his detractors he can also claim to be a favourite for Oz but so much can happen in 4 days, without considering 4 months. I think he would prefer to be the underdog.

Glad you are enjoying it but watch out for the flame wars..mtf has nothing on this place.:)

Keep the Café Open, it might be a new addition if it doesn't get buried.

This is not a challenge, go gently!

I am just talking up tennis.

also I believe this is a relatively safe assumption. he did not get to play this event last year. so there is plenty of motivation.

he is also going to want to consolidate his new position and you do that by taking the slam nole owns.

Too early to speculate. I don't believe Nadal will win if he faces Djokovic for the fact that he rarely performs well as a favourite. Refer to 2011. Plus, let's see his schedule for the rest of the season. If he does a classical Rafa and plays every tournament even after getting the number 1 ranking, he is screwed. Say bye bye to number 14.

And that's not even 2014's lead up to the Australian. If he plays many exos etc, Chennai, and tire himself out before that, then.......you get the point.

Nadal rarely performs well when he's the favorite based on 2011?

LOL, he's been the favorite for every clay event for the better part of the last decade and done quite well. Not to mention, he was #1 when he won AO09, USO10 and WIM10 as well.

That's 3/5 non clay slams where Nadal was #1 and he was also the favorite going into the 2013 US Open as well despite being #2.

2011 is looking more and more like an anomaly now, unless Novak can recapture his 2011 form, I have a feeling we'll be seeing Nadal win a few more important titles as the favorite.

Well Djokovic's serve is worse than Nadal's now so I guess Djokovic will even more be winning no points off his serve on that court then, and Nadal can grind Djokovic down easier than vice versa right now. Djokovic is not as fit or confident or consistent as he was a couple years ago, and Nadal is more of all those things too. Why on earth would a grindfest favor Djokovic when he lost almost all the long rallies in the U.S Open final. This isnt 2011 anymore. The U.S Open is the place he has the most chance in a head to head match with Nadal now as his only current edge is his shots sometimes having a bit more raw pace on a more consistent basis.

montreal masters surface was similar to the surface at the Australian open.

people also forget that nadal has won the Australian open before.

he has also won a few indian wells events.

so this idea that the slow hard courts will work against nadal is just a wet dream.

I think you are deluded. Nadal will get Rosolled or flameout early at 2 out of 4 slams next year.

Of course H2H matters in the GOAT debate but it's a bit skewed as Nadal has been so lucky not to have met Roger when he was in his prime on HC during 04-07.

Nadal is currently flavour of the month after a cup cake draw through USO and Djokovic's comedy attempts at smashes during RG '13 SF. If he loses early again in the next slam, he'll be out with another 'injury' again.

excuses keep coming. now nadal has been "lucky".

also nadal is hardly a "flavor of the month". looks to me like like he has owned the year.

and he is not stopping this time. he wants to own 2014 too.

I honestly don't think that would have changed the H2H too much.

Even if '04-'07 Nadal couldn't dominate the HC field like Federer did, he still could be very competitive against Federer on HC, as their actual HC results from that period show.

I will explain today why it was difficult for nadal on the quicker courts when he first came on the tour.

after that hopefully you will stop hurling spears in his back.

in that case you go ahead and explain why it has always been relatively difficult for nadal on the quicker courts than the next player. especially in the early days.

Don't be too bullish on Nadal at AO. Just because he's been having a spectacular year, that doesn't necessarily mean that that's going to continue indefinitely.

One interesting development though is that Nole seemed to lose heart in the 4th set at the USO. I haven't seen the lost, defeated Nole in a long, long time. That was interesting. For the last three years, he's been one of if not thee hardest fighter/never say die player on the tour. As I've said, Nole usually eats match points for breakfast. He went down very, very meekly when it got to 1-4 in the fourth.

Perhaps, it was a bad night; perhaps he's lost some of his mental toughness.
