At least we know for a fact that Fed, Nole, Murray are not on a silent ban or scared away by the biological passport that just became fully functioning this month.

LeChoke is a mental midget. Federer would have been toast against any of the other players left in the draw right now.

Congrats to Federer for his millionth slam semifinal. I don't think he gets past Cilic though.

Very disappointed for Monfils, but he broke down mentally which is what everyone expected, it just took longer than it normally does. The guy has the talent to beat anyone on any given day, but he just cannot stay 100% focused for 5 sets. Also, he does not seem as fit cardio-wise as the other players. People here are saying he "looks" more athletic. You can be skinny and have no body fat and not be able to run a mile.

It appears Monfils fitness regimen is not as tough as Nole, Murray, Fed, Nadal, Ferrer, etc.

    "Bwwa!..sob!..it's over...that racquet's wrecked his forehand!..monfils ftw...U dopes

Simple. He's fresh as a daisy because of the cool night scheduling. And, as far as the draw goees, don't forget, Monfils was the #20 seed.

While the fedfanboys were all sobbing and wetting their pants and biting their pillows and the nadalfanboys were gleefully predicting doom, I had this match pegged as far back as page 28/29:

    Fed in 5.

What was so obvious was totally lost on the fanboys--you guys are so emotionally consumed you can't even analyze what's staring you in the face--you have no knowledge of tennis except to "wikipedia' your whinning ad nauseum:

Fed was overall out hitting him and Fed was (way) overall, outserving him, i.e. was holding serve on average much easier than Monfils. If Monfils 1st services in the 4th set weren't obvious enough (missing some by FEET instead of Fed who missed by inches) I don't know what to say except that last night, the "fanboys really don't know squat" quotion was strong.....very strong.

Bunch of squealing cheerleaders without a clue--LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fed was great ... and you didn't even know it.

Fed was a pleasure to watch!!

here is my 2 cents: Fed, he showed guts. being 2 sets down, and facing 2 MP, he managed it. I expected nothing less then win from him..
Monfils? What a poor dumb fck he is. Pretending like he doesn't care about? It's just for fun, and entertainment? If he doesn't care, why he train so much? You can't be where he is without serious training, doesn't matter how talented you are. One of his main quality is athleticism. He need to work hard to maintain that body. He is not Isner type of player (I'm 2 meters high, I serving bombs, and I don't need to train like others,bla,bla..).If you like entertainment, be singer, artist, dancer (ok, he dance). Show some love for the sport, respect it! And for fck sake don't be a cheapskate, hire some coach! You are not smarter then the rest of the tour! At least, the coach can do uncle Tony trick between points, and that could be crucial in matches like that one last night. Because it's a big difference from the guy who got Roger on the rope, to one who defeated Roger in GS. Poor dumb fck..

Fed wasn't great. He was adequate enough to allow Monfils to self-destruct.

He gets straight-setted if he brings this form against Djokovic and probably wouldn't get by Cilic or Nishikori.

Not that straight forward since Monfils actually had 2 MPs in the 4th set. It's true Fed was bothering Monfils serve throughout the 4th set while holding easily. But Fed could not break through his committing his own mistakes and Monfils coming up clutch with some plays and serves at the right time.

Then we got to 4-5 and we've seen time and time again Fed in this situation ... holding his serve well throughout the set but when it's on the line, he shows some nerves and wilts. Suddenly Fed sprayed 2 easy shots (I think a DF as well) and he is down 15-40. This time he got away with it.

I think the wind really bothered Fed in the fist 2 sets. Once his confidence was down he started making poor shot selections as well. It took 2 sets and some safer tennis to get on track.

I've heard many times that Agassi was the same way, and can STILL recount many important points in that manner.

Or mysteriously miss the 2012 Olympics, which has-had?-much more stringent drug testing than tennis has. It's unbelievable how clueless and consumed with bitterness that poster is.

Agreed. They're suspect in soccer, cycling, and track and field, but clean as a hound's tooth in tennis? Please...

"Adequate" enough? ...whew.... Monfils self-destructing was part of the equation. If you notice, Monfils' shows significant emotional swings and last night the 'smiling' at times reflected a number of emotions including relief. He wanted it so badly he saw the finish line, pressed...then ultimately gagged.

On the other hand, Fed outside of his net-whacking moment kept a much more even keel, again, part of the equation that proved itself again come crunch time. Also: had Federer been faced with that backhand Monfils had at 15-40, would Fed miss it, let alone that badly? No way. It's part of their respective make ups and thus part of the equation....
    "levels of the game."

As for Cilic, rock solid win over the Byrdman. He's also the #14 seed in what isn't the strongest of US Open draw by a long shot. Do you really see Cilic putting together back-to-back matches on that level? More to the point, don't you think the 'Fed factor' will play into this and into Cilic's head?

    I do.

Fed-Djoko final .... and while he may be the favorite, I wouldn't bet the entire ranch on Djoko.

So when Federer loses, people jump up and say "oh, he is done" and when he wins people say "oh, the other guy sucked"

That makes lots of sense! :)

Please go back and read the thread. I had said when the 3rd set began that Fed needed to win only set 3 and 4 and approach it as a 4 set match.

You can't stop lecturing. Can you ?

Federer moved ahead of Nadal in the ATP race. If he finishes ahead of him before WTF, Novak and Nadal would be drawn into the same half.
