Methinks you swing too quickly at the ball. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but you do lose control over the ball when you do that which causes many of your shots to go out or in the net. I think the ball machine can be blamed.

ITN 5.5 would actually be spot on, I wonder if that is what he means?

All hell will break loose in this thread regardless, though :)

I'm with you - there's a reason there's 10 minutes of FH and no BH. FH was ok. But if the balls coming at him had the same pace as his shots, the results would have been a lot worse.

Side note: watching most of the videos on this board reminds me how blessed I am to be in So Cal where most courts have fences to keep balls from rolling over from adjacent courts.

What level is your ball machine set on? is it shooting out a faster pace than a sick, under- sized, 5 star recruit would hit?

Or he could be in the transitional rating between 5.5 and 6.0.

Sorry, no idea how that got started but couldn't help it:mad:

    That's cold.

Anyway, the strokes seem pretty powerful, but lack consistency in placement, really. I'm in no position to dish out NTRP ratings based on one stroke video, but I will say the forehand isn't bad for just practicing.

oh, how very clever of you. not

By the way, I was deadly serious, you really are an ITN 5.5 (puts you at about NTRP 3.5-4.0)

yeah I know what you mean ... here's a lefty who hits off his left foot for his forehand ... maybe you can give him some tips on how to correct that.

OK... you are being serious. so what? did you expect me to get mad at you? I made this tread just for people like you who think that just by looking at couple of FH's they can rate someone. I don't know what is my rating and I don't care. If you want to call me 2.0 - knock your self out more fun for me :) . Keep the conversation going.

That link of the lefty, hitting off his left foot....so ugly. He really needs to change his technique if he's ever going to do anything on the tour. And the way his racket path travels after contact?!? WTF its like he's cleaning windows like a wiper, its as if Mr. Miyagi taught him how to play tennis! Wax on, Wax off!! Horrible!

Do you mean a full fence, or those partial fences, about 3 feet high and that stick out about 8 feet from the back fence, that are located between the courts? Those fences that reduce the court width to some stupidly narrow dimension and that are squarely in your path if you are running wide to try to get a ball, but are low enough so that they're difficult to see until you are about to hit them running full speed? If so I absolutely loath those things.

I call them fences of death.

I can't tell you how many times I've pulled up on a wide ball because I knew I was getting close to one of those killers. They're on most of the high school courts around here. If a kid was smart they'd practice their wide, deep shots because they'd be unhittable with those fences in the way. Hopefully no one will get hurt slamming into one of those idiotic things.

Sorry, but a massive pet peeve.

If we want to hit a penetrating shot, the first thing to do is to transfer weight from right foot to left foot (for rightly) if you stand open.
The reason you do it, because you want to rotate your hip first by lifting you right foot up, If you hit on your right foot, you do not have as much hip rotation.
Nadal hit a lot of top spin, huge, to set up point by hitting on his left foot. when he decide to finish his point, he will hit on his right foot.
He know what he doing. In case any doubt, the tennis court is near by, you may try it this afternoon and see for yourself.

We all come here to learn. Do not crack up too long, this after noon, try to do as we notice on the court, then you will see the result.

Idt you can rate anyone if there hitting against a ball machine. To me, a ball machine is only good for stroke development.

ok mister ho I appreciate you trying to help, but first of all where in this thread I asked for an advice? second of all when you give an advice make sure you are qualified to do so and you know what you are talking about. third of all who told you I was looking for more penetration. If you look closely you will notice that all I was doing is practicing sharp angle cross courts and just occasionally will hit dtl, when you hit sharp angle cross court the last thing you need is penetration, but of course I dont need to tell you that because you already knew it, right?

No no bitterness. I just enjoy when people argue about NTRP ratings of someone they have only seen hit a few balls in a (in most cases) edited video. :)

If you look at closely, you see that I respond to InspectorRacquet. I do not give you advise, your attitude in public do not deserve any advise. If for some reason that you think I give you advise, my apology, I withdrawn it.

At least I know you don't know what you talking about: you said 5.5 then you said you do not know what level are you.

You are at the end of the road. It's a shame to see a young man that will never success in life by just his attitude.

    hi,

I have some different opinion about this. I agree that an actual rating of someone must be comprehensive and it should be well assessed in a match play. but I also think it's no harm to give some rating by an edited video, even with a ball machine, as long as we well understand, this rating is based on a few assumptions:

-the shots in the video can represent the general level of this player
-the rating is only about the technique of particular shots, such as FH or BH or serve, as shown in the video, not the overall rating of the player

I think if we can keep these two things in mind when talking about rating over vids, there will be much less argue and dispute.

btw, I don't really understand your behavior. posting a vid with a self-rating, get people comment on it and then, laughing at them. if you want to make a point, then just do so in a straightforward way.

No I don't laugh at people who comment about my rating, I laugh at people who have no idea of what they are talking about, like "how horrible is for a right handed person to be hitting a wide forehand of his right foot". Everyone who says that in front of people, who have watched at least one professional match in the last ten years, deserves to be laughed at. That is just my opinion.
And I dont take those ratings very seriously because for me they are meaningless, the way I see it, the only way I can rate you or anyone, is if I step on the other side of a tennis court and beat you/ or you beet me, fair and square .
