I decided to open a series of fantasy matches to decide which of the two decades, 70 or 80 is more golden.

Well, I also decided to allocate one player to the decade I feel he or she better belongs so to pursue some purity.yes, I know it is very debatable. because, fi, Borg and Connors played great in the 80´s and Navratilova/Austin in the 70´s ( or Evert in the 80´s) but, I ask excuses beforehanded for this subjective criterion,

So, I basically pitt nº 1 vs nº 1...nº 10 vs nº 10 in a series of twelve matches, three on hard, three on grass, three indoors and three on clay and decide which decade has the overall best top 10 ( of course, we should go further down to at least the top 50 to have a better picture of the density and thus, strength of a decade)

    Men
    1970
    1-Borg
    2-Connors
    3-Newcombe
    4-Nastase
    5-Vilas
    6-Rosewall
    7-Ashe
    8-Smith
    9-Kodes
    10-Orantes

I know Gerulaitis and Panatta fans may be disapointed but I think Orantes is the real nº 10

    1980
    1-.Lendl
    2-.Mc Enroe
    3-.Wilander
    4-.Becker
    5-.Edberg
    6-.Cash
    7-.Kriek
    8-.Noah
    9-.Mecir
    10-.Jarryd

yes, Chang in 1989 and Teacher in 1981 also won a major, but they are not truly representatives of the best the 80´s offered to us tennis fans; instead Mecir and Jarryd, in addition to a WCT title also had far more consistent results at the most important tournaments of the decade.Maybe Gomez ad Curren could have taken their place, but I think both deserve to close the decade´s top 10

As for Borg vs Lendl, I have Borg 2-1 on clay and 3-0 on grass, with Lendl winning 2-1 both hard and supreme carpet.

So, by a pubic hair´s distance, the 70´s win the first clash (7 to 5 for Borg vs Lendl)

Borg dominated Lendl at the Masters and at most of their indoor exhibition tournaments clashes, true, but middle to late 80´s Lendl was awesome at the Masters. And in 1980 scored a five sets classic win over peak Borg at Basle, being only the second time in history Borg lost to a younger player and , also, the second time since 1975 Borg had lost a final that went to five sets; that just shows how good Ivan was indoors.

Mc Enroe was the one who did it first, he became the first player younger than Borg to beat the Swede ( at Stockholm Indoors¡¡¡) and also the first guy since 1975 to beat Borg in the fifth set of a final (USO 1980).Curiously, Basle was the tournament Borg played after the US Open ( coincidences¡¡¡)

It can go anyway; and IMO, Supreme court was the best surface of all, and in the case of a Borg vs Lendl match, the one I would prefer.
