A Little About Ourselves

Friends, it occurs to me that many of us frequent these boards everyday and speak with each other as if we know each other in a single community. That being said, for as much as we talk to each other, we don't know a whole lot about one another or where we're from. So I thought it might be nice to put a "face", as it were, to each other, rather than just being screen names and words on an online forum to each other.

If you think this is juvenile and arbitrary and no one cares, go ahead and let me know. haha

I'll go ahead and start:

I'm a news reporter in Tucson, AZ. I'm a huge fan of all University of Arizona sports teams. I'm from Illinois, but I moved here for a job opportunity and also for the weather :) . I participate in a few tournaments a month at the local tennis center, and I believe tennis should be a fun experience, rather than a burden. . .if anyone cares lol

I'm a high school student who is soon to be moving out for college, where I plan to study Religion and Psychology, and from there attend a Bible college and become a pastor! I plan on playing tennis in college, although not with the intent of paying for school or making it to the pros. :D

I plan to go to UT Arlington and major in Biology and go pre-med. i work 2 days a week at Whataburger, yes the fast food place, and love tennis. Not enough time to play tournaments with school and college stuff going on so i play frequently on weekends when i have the chance.

I'm a credit broker in the city of london. 28. English/Irish by birth but have lived in Luxembourg most of my childhood followed by Germany, France, US for work. Used to trade futures and blew up so a quieter, slower life now. Ran a few things for Bloomberg for a while before this job.

Played tennis from the age of 6, long layoff 19-26 due to injury/work. Love the sport and probably play about 4.5 (as estimated by a friend from USA). Used to row and was a big rugby player also when younger. Too fat to play properly at the moment but working on that. Getting married in June in US. Wish I was somewhere else for the weather right about now. Love cars, tennis, food, sleep and (sadly) cigars.

Hi, guys!

Great posts so far, I'll try to keep it up!

My name is Andrew. I'm a junior in high school from the Piedmont area in North Carolina (Charlotte). I started playing tennis about a year and a half ago, after a friend invited me to go and play with his brother-in-law and him. I got hooked, and I've been playing 5-6 times a week since.

Last year, I met a major goal by qualifying for my high school team.

I am a lefty, 6' 0", with a strong serve, but with equal power in both forehand and backhand (2HBH). I'm an all-court player, and will serve and volley perhaps 40% of the time on my service game. First serve is flat or slice, depending on the situation. Second serve is a kick. FULL EASTERN GRIP on forehand and (slice 1H) backhand!

I'm a huge fan of the University of Michigan, my favorite color is blue, and I work at a Food Lion grocery store. :)

Some people just may feel uncomfortable talking about themselves because they dont want to sound self-centered perhaps. But it is a cool idea to know more about people on here; maybe more will write soon

Hey, everyone. My name is Stephen (hence the username) and, I'm a college sophomore attending the University of Texas at Dallas. Currently, I'm studying Finance and Accounting. I loved watching tennis when I was a kid but didn't start playing until November 2006 when I was introduced to a guy who played high school tennis through another friend of mine. I immediately got really into the sport. My dad and I purchased a ball machine and then we practiced almost 3-4 hours a day to learn our strokes. We also bought a basic dropweight stringing machine, because I broke 3 sets of string in 3 weeks. We figured it would be cheaper to buy one and it has been.

I'm still very much a student of the game. My serve is horribly inconsistent, but once in a while, I'll hit a sweet one! My strengths are my groundstrokes. I hit pretty flat off both sides with pretty conservative grips. Extreme Eastern forehand and modified eastern backhand.

Anyone on here that lives near Carrollton/Lewisville/Plano area? Or maybe Richardson, out near the UTD campus? I'd love to hit with some new people!

I agree. For the amount of talking I do, I am not likely to reveal much about my personal life on this forum. It is a good idea though and I'm sure the thread will gain some momentum. Not to shamelessly plug the Bistro thread, but quite a few posters hang there and are a little more open than in the general threads.

Davidson, I just lost my #4 seed to a broken collarbone and my #1 seed transfered. Care to move East??? I think you're at 4A and we're only 3A so that might be a bit of a downgrade there. 3A is stronger then 4A here in the East though.

I have three kidneys, and I never scribble or doodle when I'm bored during a meeting, seminar, lecture, or date. Instead, I grind my teeth along to whatever song is in my head. My dentist disapproves.

I'm Max, and I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lived here my whole life. I'm currently a sophmore in high school. Been playing tennis since I was 6. Currently getting my last minute conditioning in because next monday is our first practice. Plan on being top 5 varsity. I'm currently interested in the business world and looking at going to college to pursue that. Playing some tennis along the way would be nice, too.

BTW, my name is Adam. I go to the University of Maine-Honors college. I've been playing tennis on and off for three years. I'm not good at tennis, however, I plan on working on my game all summer and hopefully obtaining 4.0rating. I use to live in CT, but now live in Maine..........and that's pretty much it.

Most people like having the anonymity the internet provides, myself included. But I will say some tidbits. I'm a student at the University of Michigan (hail to the victors fools!). I'm going pre-med but wondering if i can actually keep up with it. When i played tennis in highschool i had a bad habit of buying new tennis rackets often, thinking it would improve my game. Finally, I am eating some Ben and Jerrys ice cream (Creme Brulee to be exact)

I'm 47, a sales professional and live in the greater Boston area. I have a beautiful wife and two fantastic children, 4 & 1 years old. My 4 year old daughter is already imitating Nadal and Sharapova whenever they play on TV. She can't wait to learn how to play tennis. She watches on TV and comes to the outdoor courts in the summer and watches her "Dad" play. Her journey begins this summer..

Sorry Adam... been awhile since I checked this thread.

We lived in Gales Ferry. My dad was in Groton at the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics. Same reason we were in San Diego, Egypt and Texas.

My brother graduated from Ledyard H.S. and stayed in CT when we moved to TX. He was at UCONN so he stayed behind. He teaches Spanish and coaches tennis now. We are going to visit in June- going to stay on the Cape for a week.

I'm a little disappointed this thread didn't take off. . . :(

Why didn't this thread take off?

I know, I know... anonymity and all that... But isn't the biggest thread on the board the one that everybody posts pics of themselves, where they live, where they play tennis, meet and greets with other TT members etc....

Hey, I skipped the superficial stuff and went straight to the deep (t)issues, told everyone about what was deep down inside me: that third kidney.

My name is Mark. I'm 20 and I go to the University of Utah. I work for my county's election division so I ran a voting location on Super Tuesday and am now counting ballots. I used to work for the White House on an internship. I'm a 5.0 in tennis and I also love to play basketball and I'm training to get into shape for competitive cycling. My short term goal in life is to get accepted into a good law school in the D.C. area(Gtown, GWU) because I loved it there and want to go back.
