I have recently started to use gut for the mains, I have a klippermate
and it leaves a haze where the the pully grabs it. It also has the same
problem where I clamp it. My question is does this shorten the life of the
string and does the better stringing machines have the same problem?
I also broke a knot tying the the last main. I scabbed a short piece
and was able to tie off with only a small knot outside of the last main. This
should not be a problem since I own It. Does this happen with gut alot?

It happens when the clamps slightly crush the string. If it is slight, it doesn't seem to do any real harm. The chance of knot breakage can be lessen by : Inspecting the grommets very carefully, 2. Do use care when snugging up the knot with your PLIERS, and never by using the tension arm.

my bab star II clamps leave marks on gut and soft multi's too without shortening string life. dodn't even notive once you play with the racquet and hit some balls.

This is common with gut and soft multifiber nylon strings and won't hurt it if the string is not being crushed. I tighten all of my knots by hand on nat gut.
