Haha, the way this season is going down in flames is epic, can't even take it seriously anymore

They should really just stop now - only 4 TENNIS players left, that's not a team

Looks like Ester Goldfeld is the one injured. Duke is playing a decent Georgia Tech team, forfeiting #3 doubles and #6 singles, and the soccer player has to move up from #6 to #5 singles.

And Duke is still ranked #6. Crazy.

Clemson women's tennis gave #1 UNC a good match at unc. Will probably end 4-3.

    Tomorrow:

Duke at Georgia Tech. 6-1 Duke. I will pick Spir to have one of his inspired matches and beat Saba at 2. Everywhere else will be all Duke.

Boston College at Miami. Miami 5-2. BC will show a little fight here and grab two surprising wins. But now way they make it two in a row over the Canes.

    North Carolina at Clemson
. Clemson 4-3. Clemson will edge out doubles, Maden will overcome Hess-Olesen in the rematch and Meza and Ansari will get wins. Meza is due for a good performance here, he played well at the end vs Redlicki. I also think Harrington will beat Vick if we lose doubles. Clemson will 1 of those 2.

    Virginia at NC State
. Virginia 7-0. No good chances for an NC State point here. Virginia is too strong at doubles for the Pack to think about sneaking out that point.

Virginia Tech at Wake Forest . Wake Forest 4-3. If Virginia Tech can win doubles then they will have a serious shot of winning. Bjerrehus should win at 1 and Contini should take Prabhakar. The problem for VT is that Wake will run through 3-5 fairly easy. It will be up to Monteiro to put in another big effort at 6, I think it will be too much and Wake will get a tight win with 6 clinching in the 3rd.

Well I was wrong about BC. Miami trounced them today worst than any other ACC team has thus far outside of UVA.

I was right about Spir having his inspired match beating Saba easily. Also Rakitt showing the game he has by beating Mengel.Mengel probably spent the whole match mad because he wasn't winning 6-0 6-0.

Virginia knocked down NC State. Powell somehow got a set from Jenkins.

Wake Forest did a sneaky switch at 2 and 3 vs VT. Kreyman rallied to beat Contini proving the switch to be a good one. VT must win doubles if they want to win matches because they are weak at 3-5. Oliveria keeps fading.

Clemson gave a solid singles performance and swept all 6 courts after losing doubles. The big surprise came from Dom Maden crushing Parker 6-1 6-1 a player he lost to in the fall 7-6 6-1.

I feel much better about Miami's chances against UNC and VT after today.

I was impressed with NC State. They are not the most talented team in the world but they are gritty and they fight.

I thought this might be the best place to ask this question:

Concerning the ACC tournament, who plays on which days? I know it runs Thursday-Sunday. I imagine Sunday is the final, so if I go Thursday, will I see everyone play?

    Thanks in advance.

someone correct me if my assumption is wrong - i'm feeling too lazy at the moment to look it up and confirm, but i believe:

thurs - teams 5-12 play to earn a match against the four big dogs the next day - 5v12, 6v11, 7v10, 8v9

fri - 1-4 join the mix against the winners from thurs

sat and sun - semis and finals

so no, don't go thursday, unless you don't want to see the best teams and players

go friday if you want to see lots of tennis and all the best players in action, but matches may not be very exciting / competitive

go saturday if you want the middle ground of a couple matches of moderate competitiveness

go sunday if you want to see duke try to take down uva and most likely come up slightly short for the millionth time, but the tennis will be fantastic

Basically, yes, but I guess it is slightly different this year due to the absence of Maryland, leaving eleven teams instead of twelve. In any case, no one will see the top three teams (at least) on Thursday. I would imagine that the top five get a bye on Thursday, while 6v11, 7v10, and 8v9 decide who fills out the QFs. That would make the most sense.

Florida State at Wake Forest the headliner tomorrow. Very even match-up that will be very interesting. FSU should win doubles. FSU the slight favorite at 1 although I think Hopkins will take it to Cotrone in a senior last stand type of match. Every other position is literally a toss up with maybe Prabhakar a slight favorite over Lock. Kreyman vs JKH is a battle of two sporadic players who play a similar style. I'll be keeping my eyes on this scoreboard.

GT at VT. This will match strength against strength. Both teams are strong at the top but weak at bottom. VT is stronger at 1, 2 a toss up. GT is a favorite at 3 and 4. VT is a favorite at 5,6. Doubles will be important. This will be close but I expect VT to win it like 5-2 with wins from Rakitt and Segura.

Miami at North Carolina. Another close one. Miami could expose UNC's lack of depth but UNC should get a win at #1. I think Miami will go in and get a win in Chapel Hill. UNC not strong enough in enough spots.

The UNC match was one I counted as a loss at the beginning of the season but I think the Canes have a very good chance tomorrow. They're going to be at the top of their games but we sure could use a couple more wins before the regular season ends.

Today's loss really popped my NCAA bubble hopes. Not sure if they can beat VT and I don't think they have the ability to pull off an upset. Never say never but....

UNC's coach was pissed after the Clemson match so he probably worked his guys hard this week to be ready. Miami ran into a buzz saw.

He also had great lows but he is on a hot streak right now. I agree that he has a future in the pros in doubles.

    Today:

Florida State at North Carolina - Upset alert here. FSU should take doubles but UNC is favored at 1. After that it is pretty even except for FSU should win at 6. 2-5 will be key. Tar Heels may put together an extra effort at home but I will still say FSU 4-3, with Lock clinching over Clark.

Miami at Duke - should be 7-0 Duke. Not any chances for a Cane point.

    Wake at BC - 7-0

Clemson at Virginia Tech - The Hokies will be ready on senior day and see this as a big chance to boost their ranking into the NCAA zone. But they won't win at enough spots. Doubles will be close but I expect the Maden brothers to get back on track and defeat the Hokies #1 team. Clemson should probably win 4 singles and win this match 5-2

BTW I nailed the Hopkins over Cotrone pick.

I'm not feeling any particular individual pick today.

Appalling loss for Prabhakar to Vick who couĊ‚dnt have bought a win recently. Hopkins somehow beat EHO. This win may get UNC near the NCAA tournament. UNC finally gets the big scalp I thought they would get.

Virginia Tech at Florida State will be a close one and it's important in the ACC race.

Contini vs Cotrone will be a battle of guys who like to dictate with their powerful forehand. Contini has more variety And precision.

FSU is the heavy favorite at doubles and 6. VT not the heavy favorite anywhere . FSU will win 5-2. VT can get wins at 1 and 4.

Not a good year for seniors in the ACC.

Clemson wins at Virginia Tech's senior day
Virginia Tech wins at Florida State's senior day
Wake Forest wins at Clemson's senior day
North Carolina wins at Wake Forest's senior day

all of these were mild upsets except for Clemson over VT

ok so how did Koontz beat Anderson Reed 6-1 6-1. How did Lock beat Bjerrehus 6-3 6-0. Sometimes you just can't see these things coming.

You know how good these players are. All it takes is something like a slight injury, bad day in school, you name it and an opponent having a good day and individual upsets happen. What's more strange at this time of year is a lower ranked team upsetting a higher ranked team.

Wind might've had a hand in it also. In the UVA/Miami writeup, Boland made note of how bad the gusts were; don't know if all of Florida was affected though...

nice work dude, your knowledge of acc tennis definitely has more depth than mine, i couldn't say much at all about some of the depth players on weaker teams in the conference, and you do it well

i do disagree a bit with your finals analysis - i don't see 4-3 UVA as a likely possibility

i think either UVA wins dubs again and Duke has a hard time maintaining the effort in singles (they admirably did it last time at UVA, and yes they will try to give it their all for Cunha, but at some point it gets hard to try to dig out of a hole over and over again, the belief reserves start running low) - leading to a 4-2 UVA victory that is more on the routine side than the 4-2 but Duke could have won side

or Duke gets the dubs pt (btw, you say Cunha-Hemmeler have owned UVA at 1 dubs, but in reality they have split that matchup this season - see Indoors where only Redlicki/Tahir won for Duke - time for Duke to put two wins together finally) and wins the match, riding high on the emotion of Cunha's last ACC moments - I would expect Hemmeler and Cunha to get the second and third points, while Redlicki gets owned again - 3-1 Duke - then either Tahir redeems himself and plays to his potential this time (most likely) or Saba or Mengel have inspired efforts (as much as Saba will be the underdog again, no one plays with more emotion on Duke's team, and successful dubs pt could lift him again to outwork Domi from the baseline)

honestly probably not going to tune into livestats until dubs is over, i can't take it, both teams have good returners and lots of breaks, and i've lost a year off my life already this season following these two teams in dubs action, feeling hope both times but ultimately not working out

thanks Mikej. I have been fortunate to see almost every player in the ACC play at least once over the last 4 years. And when I watch the matches I focus on the top court at first but I like to move around as the match goes on.

A lot of things could happen in Duke vs Virginia. What do you think is the most concrete thing in the match? A Hemmeler win and a Frank win?

Easily a frank win - like you say awful matchup

Hemmeler win very likely as well

If duke wins dubs, Cunha win very very likely I'd say - I think he's arguably playing better tennis than anyone in nation right now, and if he sees realistic possibility of leaving as conference champ, he won't let himself get out worked

Other three who knows - I like Tahir in a bounce back and I don't think domi will roll over Saba in rematch like some on the sabre do - domi has lost numerous times in career to this type of player who makes him hit tons of balls from baseline
