    Bravo on the pick. Lock served for it at 1 up 5-4 40-15 in the 3rd and couldn't close it and Marco Nunez had a match point on the Hidalgo serve up 5-4 40-40 in the 3rd. It was there for the taking for FSU but they just couldn't close it.

    Pretty sure that Diego Hidalgo had a match point in 2nd set when receiving at 4-5. The match still would likely have ended 4-2 with Orkin getting last point.

    So is Esben Hess-Olesen just done as a competitive player? Surely it can't still be about an injury.

    Georgia Tech loses another close 4-3 decision. This time on the road to Auburn. This match-up was pretty winnable and they needed this to set the tone for upcoming road matches. Once again, they dominate the doubles point but lose the dual match at the top spots of the singles line up.

    Chris Eubanks is always going to be a threat given his ability to dominate on serve. Krickovic did well to win the tiebreak in the 1st set and then break him in the 2nd set. I'm really not worried about Eubanks at all as he'll have significantly more wins than losses this season. Fiegel and Benito posting solid wins at the 5 and 6 spots. Segura battling at 4 but eventually losing in 3 sets isn't an unexpected result. He's a grinder and really has to work to win matches.

    The two I'm most concerned about are Michael Kay and Nathan Rakitt. Kay has a lot of potential. He can hit big and/or grind but lacks consistency. To many errors at critical moments in matches. I have yet to see Rakitt live up to his rank of 47. He plays a counter-punching style that may work against some players but against a solid, consistent, aggressive opponent I think he's going to come out on the losing end every time. If Georgia Tech wants to break into the top 30, they're going to need Kay and Rakitt to step up, especially on the road against non-conference opponents. The ACC is arguably the toughest conference overall this season so there won't be any freebies in the conference schedule....other than Boston College.

    The Louisville Cardinals with a double-header today. They have 6 seniors and 2 Juniors and possible impact freshman include Stjepan Cagalj and Courtney Lock (brother of Floria State's Benjamin Lock).

    So is the ACC going to be the only conference to do the traditional scoring?

    Zoo Tennis reported that the ACC is the only Power 5 conference where the men and women will both use traditional scoring. The women in the SEC, PAC12, and B1G will also use traditional scoring, but the men will use the new scoring format. The Big12 will use the new scoring for both men and women.

    Inter conference matches will use new scoring unless the two coaches agree otherwise.

    All singles will be played to conclusion in dual matches, although a 3rd set TB or anything else is OK after the clinch, if the coaches agree.

    The NCAA's will use traditional scoring and 8 game pro sets like in the past, but will have the clinch rule in both singles and doubles just like in the past.

    The Big 10 men have used the old format so far - Illinois and Indiana played dubs to 8 and used ad scoring last Sunday.

    We will know soon enough. Frankly, given that the NCAA is going to be traditional scoring again this year, I think all should use the same format, unless there is a TV deal involved and from what I can tell there are very few of them except for a few FSU matches and some PAC 12 matches.

    The NCAA keeps asking the ITA to find a suitable way to shorten the NCAA team tournament that typically takes 12 to 16 hours a day over each of the first 4 days and if it rains it is a disaster. The ITA keeps coming up with no ad scoring as the proposed solution and the NCAA says 'no'.

    I like having a Final 8, by adding one more round to the regionals. Alternatively, just pick 32 teams. Even better separate the men and the women, so more courts can be used at two different venues. If the women played at the home court of the #1 seed they might get more to watch them play. IMO the men should do the same thing, especially if there is a Final 8 format. Maybe travel logistics would make this impossible.

    NC State holding on to a 3-2 lead against VCU with 5 and 6 on court now. Monfils won in straight at 4 for VCU - no Horton for NCST.

    Any news on how long Noah Rubin is gonna be out of the line-up? They have Virginia and TCU at home this weekend.

    =============================
    It was reported by Tennis Atlantic's Jeff McMillan that Rubin had a cast on his left wrist so that would explain him not playing.

    Clemson_tennis - thanks for the Wake-Texas twitter updates yesterday. It sounds like the chair umpires didn't bring their "A" games regarding the scoring. Your updates indicated that Seraphim/Mansouri lost at 1 doubles, but the Wake write-up indicates they won. Any idea who actually won that match? Did you hear any comments on a timetable for Rubin to return to play?

    I thought Texas won at one and then Wake took 2 and 3 almost at the same time to take the point. I only saw the match point on court 3. Another confusing thing was that the crowd wasn't all that engaged. Like when Naumann was running away with the 3rd set on 5 I heard no cheering from over there, so I assumed that the umpire was correct and Kan was rolling

    Texas's twitter also said that Texas won at 1 dubs 6-2. It seems the guys doing the twitter updates aren't the same people putting the recaps together because that was the same thing with USC against Tulsa - twitter updates were right - recaps were wrong.

    @TexasMTN
    1 doubles: Glasspool/Hess-Olesen def. Mansouri/Seraphim 6-2.
    Wake Forest takes the doubles point with wins at lines 2 and 3.

    I am so surprised that Bresky elected to play supers instead of finishing out a 5-5 set and a 4-4 set.

    Yeah and at this new no-as former, a tiebreaker isn't that much shorter at all. From 5-5 a tiebreak has a good chance to actually be more points.

    Kudos for Wake for going 4-3 with the #6 team in the country despite not having Rubin in the lineup. I'd love to know where Kan is physically and fitness wise compared to last year. Last year he was VERY good at 3 and 4, but I know he came into the season with a bad back and then tweaked his ankle vs. Oklahoma so he hasn't had a ton of matches. Wake needs a 100% Rubin and Kan on Friday to have a shot.

    Outside of court 3 NC State absolutely murdered UNCW. Well they had a good run the Seahawks did, but they are not the mid major darling anymore

    UVA at Wake tomorrow at 4. Alot of question marks for both teams, most notably will Noah Rubin play with a bad hand/wrist, is Alex Ritschard healthy, and lastly is everything cool between Boland and TSK. What are everyone's thoughts? If all of the above play, and are close to 100%, then I think Wake has a shot at Dubs pt, #1, #4, and #6. If Rubin doesn't play, I think Wake still has a shot at Dubs, but in singles our best chances would be at the bottom of the lineup.

    Definitely. The match they played last year was very close. I'd say States roadmap would be to win the dubs pt, and then 4, 5, and 6. Court 2 would be their next best option in my opinion.

    Cold and wet today here so indoor seems likely, that probably does not help Schneider at 2 as much. If Schnur plays that is, Schneider may move up. UNC will have to really fight for this one.

    Those are two fairly important matches for FSU. I'm surprised that the #1 player is allowed to abandon the team like that in ACC opening weekend.

    Only chance Wake has is if Rubin plays and TSK doesn't. And even then it's a longshot.

    Just a "coach's decision" to not play him in Waco on Sunday, i.e. some sort of discipline. Not likely to see that go on for more than one match.
