Rex Encarma's reason for losing today

Wake is top 10 quality team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We won 14 matches indoors already this season and we played good indoor tennis today, but the problem was that it was an outdoor match. Outdoor tennis is different and we adjusted poorly which is reflective of the score. Sebastian lost for the first time this season but had a set point in the second set. No matter what temperature it is when we return to Louisville, we will train outdoors. This was our first outdoor match of the season and it showed - but we will improve."

Jeff Brown of LSU made a similar comment when LSU played USCe and the match got moved indoors. Some of you laughed at Browns comments, but maybe these coaches know a little bit more of the impact of playing and practicing indoors/outdoors exclusively and the impact of the matches in a different environment than we fans do.

I don't disagree with Rex at all, and I even feel it personally in the spring, and I only play at the 4.5 level. However, everyone is in a similar boat. I put the emphasis on the coaches to get some practice in outside, and I do get that weather plays a role. I've lived in both cities for several years, and Louisville and WS aren't incredibly different.

Really excited for this weekend. Wake plays VTech at home on Friday and then at Duke on Sunday.

That's funny because two days earlier the FSU coach said Wake benefited by having the match moved indoors due to rain. Here's his quote,

"Wake Forest played a great match and took it to us today," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We had a little opening in the doubles, but Wake played really well. They benefited from the match getting moved indoors because they had some big servers, and it showed today."

Transitioning from indoors to outdoors is a big change. That being said, I think that may have only been Wake's second or third outdoor match and they played indoors two days before just like Louisville did. Hard to say that was the difference

told u....Texas Tech is dangerous for a team like Notre Dame....also ND is in a real downfall now. Their only good wins were vs Okie State and Northwestern. (and Nwestern is overranked in my eyes) Silly question but can the Irish fall out of Ncaas? They are 36 now and their Nwestern win will hold them for long in Top40s, but will this stay?

Good picks. I would predict better than 4-3 for UNC vs. Louisville, but I am assuming that UNC does not have half the team missing with injuries. :)

    Working now.

Alvarez only played doubles for Duke. That might tighten up the singles against NCSU, but Duke should still win.

Pretty shocking against a Louisville team that is mediocre. Having Schnur out hurt, but the score should be close and probably a UNC win. Steiro playing down at #6 and losing in straights might be yet another sign of a player less than 100% healthy, along with Hess-Olesen and Schnur.

Yeah. Steiro losing to Jeffrey Brown, who rarely ever plays, is a disturbing result for Unc. Steiro was winning matches at #4 earlier this year.

Wake plays at Duke on Sunday - Wake is definitely playing better at the moment and you got to think they have a really good chance to win this one.

    Matches today:

Florida State 4, Clemson 3 - check Clemson thread for breakdown

    Virginia 7, BC 0

Virginia Tech 5, NC State 2 - signs point to a great opportunity for NC State but I think the Hokies strength throughout the lineup will prove to be to much to handle.

Wake Forest 4, Duke 3 - if Alvarez does not play, duke has no chance but with him I still like Wake here 4-3.

Notre Dame 4, Georgia Tech 3 - the Jackets will try hard and get very close to the win but won't be able to close it out in South Bend.

Maybe Johnson can get the dead rubber match win to show his teammates how to fight to the end.

VT/NCST coming down to 2 3rd sets on courts 2 and 5. The Hokies need both

Horton blows a 5-2 lead in the 3rd and Contini comes back on 2 and VT survives.

I recall a huge choke earlier in the year for NCSU, perhaps in the NTI kick-off weekend.

Very good win by Duke over Wake Forest. Alvarez's particularly impressive freshman campaign continues with the clinch over Rubin.

Going into the Wake-Duke match, I thought Wake would win. Duke must have played well, as their coach said, "That was one of those special matches." I hope Wake gets another shot at them in the ACC tourney.

Yeah if you told me that Wake would win the doubles point and Duke was playing without Mengel I'd have thought Wake would win. Surprising that Kan got blown off the court by TJ Pura - that was a court I thought Wake would win. I thought Rubin would win too but that was close to a 50/50 match.

Third time could be the charm for WF. Last year Duke beat UNC twice previously but lost in ACC semis to UNC.

Looks like ND emptied the bench today and put them at 4, 5, 6.
