WARNING - PICS OF NUDE RACQUETS - WARNING

For everyone who has ever wondered what's beneath the paint of a classic racquet. I've just finished removing the paint from the GTX i bought yesterday:

Nice weave of fiberglass. No graphite or carbon to be seen, but it's probably beneath that fiberglass.

The MAX200G, on the other hand, has no pattern at all in its structure. You can see a bit of glimmering from strands of graphite, but no weave:

Next up: Copious amounts of filler.

I'm guessing this specimen was already looking a bit shabby?

    Very interesting.

    Yup.

The GTX Pro had a bit of damage to the top of the hoop and a very damaged paintjob. No way i would attack a healthy specimen in this way.
The MAX200G is just for personal use, so i like to experiment on it.

The 200G's are good to experiment with, especially since the graphics tend to fade so badly. I have one, that I sanded right back - it was quite easy in fact - and then painted a matt black all over - nothing else. It looks fantastic and it's quite fun that only I know what it is.

I still have the other NINE that are "normal" with all graphics present and correct.

No I haven't - oh wait, did he post a photo here?

Have any of you lot seen or own a yellow Limited Edition Specturm Comp? I just got one recently and strung it with matching yellow string and put a Prince leather grip on it. Awesome!

I´m going to do the MAX in matte black, with a glossy black inside hoop and white graphics.

Just have to wait till my waterslide decal paper gets delivered.

I wonder how it´s going to turn out.

Please don't put polyester strings on these babies! They will brake rather quickly. They are endangered species and we need to preserve as many as we can... ;)

that looks like a great spaghetti job! I would love to try spaghetti strings...I know I would get some Nasty Nastase Sauce on that ball! The flat drive oriented nature of the chunky 200g with a side order of spaghetti....bravo!!!

spaghetti strings produces excessive spin that was once illegal in professional tennis. it basically allowed the hacker to beat guys way above his level.

are you saying that stringing a Max 200g with poly will cause the 200g to break? Can someone comment to this...

Wouldn't it still be the same amount of pressure, but I guess that Poly strings are more stiff so hitting the ball might put more pressure on the rackets than the strings.

I personally broke one when I strung it with poly... Didn't frame the ball either, just hit an overhead and my racquet broke. It was the first time I strung it with poly if I am not mistaken. These racquets were made a long time before the poly strings came up and I don't think that the combination is healthy...

where did it break? grommet area, normal frame crack, throat? I was planning on putting full poly or at least partial and this has me concerned.

I have put poly on my max 200g's and never had any damage or breaking. Im also a very hard flat hitter. I do not string any tigher than 50 lbs and 40..45 would really be better for poly on these 18x20s 83si heads. I really prefer all nat gut at 50 lbs but need poly for wet humid conditions

for those with traditional strokes inwhich the arm does not move independent of the body, and the wrist does not slap ballistically, does spaghetti stringing significantly increase spin potential? you've also mentioned macro patterns and other experiments which I have pondered in depth. Can any of these increase spin potential somewhat while still retaining the traditional feel. The partial spaghetti looked very interesting. Does it affect strokes and accuracy or just put gravy on the ball.
thanks for your expertise, wisdom and incomparable contributions...

I also had a 200G crack on me with a poly stringjob in it. Cracked straight through at 2 o'clock - no mis-hit. Thought it was just me.
It didn't feel too good with poly anyway but I just wanted to see what the combination would be like.......

do I have this right? poly is kind of stiff, but crisp (responsive) at the same time??? I had a prostaff (china) with poly that felt superb, I believe it outplayed my 10 other prostaffs strung with everything else under the sun...thanks for the stories of poly cracks, guess I wont be using that on my Austrian Prestige Pro which I'm re-stringin soon!!!

I always thought that the GTX-Pro had some other component besides fiberglass. If tehre is, i can't find it. The handle and throat seem to be made from fiberglass only:

The original Austrian versions also contained Kevlar, but don't know about the French versions, which am guessing is the one you have there:)

Adidas is just the name of the guy that started the company, Adolf "Adi" Dassler. He started the company with his brother, who later left and formed Puma.

That phrase, which is actually: "All Day I Dream About Sports" had only come about much later.

do you have the 200G GGS? For sheer beauty of stroke and natural athleticism Martina Navratilova and Helena Sukova earn my "money shot" award. Sukovas stroke was literally all timing and no muscular force. The smoothest motion ever, fully continuous. Navratilova was next for having rounded fluid strokes in the modern era, similar to sukova but not as graceful. Sukova was a deer on the tennis court. Prancing around with a kneissl! Whether it was the serve fhand or bhand she would hold her kneissl straight up like a stick, several hours seemingly before the ball arrived, and then with the grace of a professional ballerian or figure skater drop it in a full swinging bolo-like motion.....mmmm....Helena...

nope, i don't have the 200G GGS. i've seen some on the auction site but passed up on them either because they weren't new or because they weren't the grip size i wanted. you know, ana ivanovic said her idol while growing up was monica seles but cliff drysdale said her forehand looks more like steffi graf's. i think so too :)

steffis ballistic stroking proves the versatility of the 200g. Mac And martina had classical strokes, smooth, slow and quiet, Steffi was a spin addict and would crush balls....

Haven't had much times the last couple of weeks. It's been busy at work :(

But at least the GTX has been sanded down, and any defects have been repaired with a special fiberglass putty.

If only i could think of a paintjob that would fit.

The Max's have all been painted matte black and the pure white decals have been designed (cross between the ones from the purple MAX and the others, see below (missing the DUNLOP-lettering)), but i'm having some trouble with the decal paper, my black printer ink won't give a nice even layer. I think they've sent me the wrong stuff, but they don't react to any emails i'm sending.

I can only play with the original 2 stripe. I hope there is some graphic reference on the final product, as to which model or edition is under the pj. I keep dreaming of different colors, can't think of a bad one, always a good thing to think about!!!! how about all white???

I'm still hoping it'll turn up. I had a memory card underway from the UK and that took 5 weeks.

Are you sure you didn't pack any illegal substances with the racquet, because i told you to use other means of transport in that case ;)

Yeah, well recently I had a package that took 6 weeks to arrive, which was sent from the UK!!!

The UK postal system seems to be really reliable normally but often stupidly slow:(

Customs often seem to "keep" packages for 2 weeks, but you really can't complain:) As they do seem to arrive in the end!!!

Oh, and as long as nobody sniffs the air in the box, I'll be OK:)

Then again, i doubt anyone is going to suspect illicit substances in a package sent TO the Netherlands.
