If I install it in my racquet like a dampener, would it give me the racquet head speed? Maybe measure the serve speed?

    ^^ Haha...I didn't even think about that.

I'd like to get one to track stats on some of our players, but I'm holding out for some reviews. I'm skeptical about it's "rally length" capability. Might turn out to be a really expensive pedometer.

Yea just seen it - pretty crazy. But seems like data could be complete trash if this thing is not tuned just right.

Dampner based device like that is actually a great idea and would answer a whole range of questions like - "does heavier racket slow my racket head speed??"

How on earth would it measure rally length? My guess it would just track how much you ran and your speed. How would it know if you are striking a tennis ball? Interesting, I'd love to hear a review as well.

I guess it assumes that once speed increases to a certain point, according to their algorithm, then a rally has begun. When that speed decreases substantially, the rally is over and data can be collected.

Ya but do you glue it on or what? I looked at the barricades and it doesnt look like there is a place to firmly attach it. Seem like it is just bound to fall off and get smash during a tough match if you stick them to the bottom like that.

In the soccer cleat release of the speedcell, there is a well it sits in under the sole. I believe that is showing a mock of it "inside" the shoe.

I have an experience of that type of device with Nike Running shoes and soccer shoes (Nike+ to be exact). In the case of Nike shoes, there is a little chamber in each shoe under the insole. Usually it's filled up with some material, but you can dig it up and put the device in and the device starts tracking.
Since Adidas's Micoach (there are ones for soccer and running as well) came out after Nike. I'm suspecting it's probably the same under the insole

In miCoach compatible adidas shoes, lift the insole of the left shoe. You can see there's a slot for the pod in the midsole. I haven't personally tried it, but Jason has been trying it out. He is working on a blog to share his experiences.

I have been using the SPEED CELL for a while now, and I really like it.
The Barricade 7 have a slot for the sensor in shoe.

It measures Total Distance, Rallies, Game Length and average vs. top speed.

The rally count while I don't know how they do it, is pretty accurate, i did a manual count one game to compare and it was only off by 1.

It works pretty seamlessly, you play, when you get home you sync, select the actual game time you played and the MiCoach site does the rest.

If you don't have compatible shoes you can clip the sensor on the laces.

    Happy to answer any questions.

I have a question - what do you use those stats for?

    Mi Barricade 7 with MiCoach

Does anyone know if it will work with shoes that were bought from MiAdidas.com?

That's what I would say, as well, but in the modern world there seems to be a fetish for counting everything.

Other than motivating you to keep on track with your aerobic fitness, they probably have little value.

I dont use them for anything but geeky curiosity.
None of this stuff will make me a better player.

But I do have a statistics background and am one of the strange fellas who has 3 years worth of data calculating my average commute to work.

So having this data, while useless in terms of improving my performance, is really really fun for me to analyze.

I can see, however, how an aspiring HS / College Player could build a training regimen around this.

May have to clip this onto the laces of a pair of my nikes and see if it works.

So has anyone tried this yet? Here is the website, not much on tennis though http://www.adidas.com/us/micoach/

I was about to post a new thread then found this one.
This was what I was about to post about it...
    -----------------------------------------------------

Ever since I started tracking my running, biking etc with my iPhone (works great) & http://runkeeper.com/ I have wondered it they would ever come up with anything similar for tennis... well they have.

I have no idea what its like but I was going to buy a pair of Adidas's Barricade 7.0s anyway so... has anyone tried it?

I just put my nike+ chip in my B7s and connect it to my iPhone. Its a little loose (so I took the foam insert and cut it to to take up the room that the nike chip doesn't use to prevent it from shaking), but still way cheaper than the Adidas one. It works for me.

Cool, so you like the stats & info that it is giving you. Longest rally... I cant see how it does that. I find it (gps stats & info/coaching) motivates me for my running, climbing & biking etc., is there some kind of coaching aspect to it.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated ;-)
