It was actually 4-6. 7-6, 4-1, with agass up 2 breaks in the 3rd set..

he retired because he was gonna lose anyway.

Didn't see the match. What's the inside scoop? Was it good tennis? Did Andre kick it up a gear in the third? Why did Fish retire? Either way, hopefully Andre will get some more wins under his belt before USO.

Fish retired because he's a wuss. Back injury? How about no backbone?

It was reasonable tennis.. some nice shots and points played.. Fish was serving big in the first two sets. Andre was just edged out of the first set. In the second set he played a little bit better overall. Third set he broke Fish to lead 2-1 and then Fish had an injury timeout. He did seem in pain when the physio was working on him and his serve was noticeably off the following game when he was broken. I guess he might have pulled something.

Overall.. good match by Andre but I still get the feeling he no longer can dominate the rank and file ATP pro.

Not a bad match, but Andre will need to play better than that if he's serious about challenging for the US Open. He needs to have a good run now.

Fish is like Safin: Completely inconsistent with few flashes of brilliance. Safin being the A player, Fish as the B.

In other words, if Agassi struggles to beat this guy, that's a bad omen for what lies him this year.

See? Agassi and Spoiler can coexist in a thread where Agassi wins ;)

Haven't seen the match yet, but have it recorded so I'll watch it later. Too bad it ended with Fish retiring, but it looks like Andre was winning and Fish should take care of that back.

I though Agassi's play was troubling in the first set. Fish was going for winners early (must be the talk in the locker room) and Agassi couldn't get in any sort of rhythm. I was a little surprised at how poorly Agassi returned serve in the first set. Fish was serving well, but the sliders out wide on the duece court that were just out of Agassi's reach got monotonous. In the second set, neither player really challenged each other's serve. They pretty much held easily 'til the breaker. Agassi played a couple of good points in the breaker and ran away with it. In the third, Agassi did seem to be hitting more aggressively. He just seems to be lacking some confidence.

I am not sure what match any of you guys watched-but Andre was flat the whole match, and was playing uninspired tennis. He even lost track of the score twice, and forgot to go to a newly strung racquet when there were new balls put in play. I love Agassi, but if Fish would not have had that injury I think Andre loses yet another first round match.

Fish was giving him fits with his serve.
