Federer, Sampras, Agassi, Becker, Nalbandian, Davydenko, Djokovic, Kuerten, Stich, Corretja, lendl, edberg, McEnroe...

It's a missing element of Nadal's career resume. What is it?

Imma guess that Fed, Kuerten, Hewitt, Agassi, Stich, Corretja, McEnroe and Edberg, and Lendl probably have.

Has Federer defended a clay title? I think Djoker hasn't, though he may repeat at the Serbian Open this year!

Federer defended Hamburg while it was still a Masters event in 2005.

I'm willing to bet Rafa will end up retiring having defended more hardcourt events than Federer has defended clay events.

He should, seeing as there's twice as many hard court tournaments a year than there are clay.

I know, it's a shame. If there were as many clay slams as there are hardcourt slams, Rafa would be on the way to 20 slams.

What a coincidence ! There was a much loved poaster named bullzilla and later another much loved poaster named nadalwon2012 who used to say pretty much the same thing. You wouldn't know them because you weren't around when they poasted. So glad to have someone with similar thoughts among us as we have been missing them a lot.

Imagine if there were twice as many slams on hard as there are now. Nadal would have 2 slams. Many these hypotheticals sure are fun aren't they BullLost2012toinfinityandbeyond?

Actually he's only ahead in "this reality." Nadal fans also are fans of a television series by the name of Sliders. Nadal fans, like the characters on the show, would cross between other realities that while similar, would have a few differences. Obviously they have seen the reality where there are 2 clay majors and they are expressing their visions of that reality to the rest of us on talk tennis. Since they are all so humble and have IQs off the charts, they don't want to bore us with these facts that are obviously beyond the comprehension of most here. :)

Except if there were two slams on clay, most players would focus on honing their clay skills too and would probably grow up playing on the surface consistently which puts your " Nadal would've had 20 slams" theory out of the window. Also, it would make Nadal winning a career slam that much harder as it would offer him basically very little transition time on his least favourite surface.
