I'm sure this has been discussed before but since it is the new Nadal era, it'd interesting to see who would you all pick from the current field of players as the ultimate All-Star Davis Cup World Team.

To make it even more interesting, pro doubles players are not allowed. ATP mens singles pros only. You can pick your team based on specific surfaces as well.

My All-Star World Team for hard court:

    1.Murray
    2.Djokovic
    3.Verdasco
    4.Stepanek

That's right Verdasco and Stepanek for doubles!

EDIT: Please don't write Bryan and Bryan as pro doubles players are not allowed.

1.Murray is the best player currently on hardcourt and he owns both Federer and Nadal the last few month on the surface. Granted those weren't all slam matches but he did beat Nadal convincingly at USO 08.

    2. Djokovic has proven that he can beat both Federer and Nadal on big stages. As long as he doesn't have a health issue. So him as No.2 in the team is a safe bet.

Verdasco and Stepanek would make a dangerous doubles team. Mixing a solid powerful baseline game lefty with one of the best S&V specialist on tour would sure be a winning combination.

  3. My pick would be:

Singles: Murray and Nadal (sorry Roger even though im a HUGE Fed-fan)

    Doubles: Federer & Wawrinka

Thats a nice looking team huh!?:)

    Guys, my OP says
. Bryan & Bryan is always a no brainer for doubles. But it'd be more interesting to choose amongst the singles pros. :)

Ahh. Yeah, I missed that part. sorry.

    Same singles, then doubles:

    either Fed/Wawrinka or Lopez/Verdasco.

Since davis cup is best of 5 sets. I would choose nadal and federer for singles on every single surface. Bryan Bros for the doubles.

Ali teaming with the Worm. Aggressive attacking doubles. Sounds like a winner :)

So I guess you wouldnt go to the traditional path many use of including a specialist doubles team?

I would use Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray. They're the 4 best players in the world for a reason!

I prefer the 3 single players + 1 doubles specialist format and some Davis Cup team captains think the same way. It gives many more options in the singles matches and most of the good single players can be also good playing doubles, it's just that they're not so used to playing doubles.

    2. Nadal - Now
    Doubles
    1. John McEnroe(Hasn't anyone heard the quote "Who's the best doubles team?" "John McEnroe and anyone else.")
    2. Agassi
    McEnroe's net + Agassi's baseline = :D
