This happened to me in a match. I was playing terrible and on one of my opponents first serves (probably 105mph), I got so angry and I hit a forehand about as a hard as I could, and my wilson tour 95 broke in the throat.

I was watching Ancic match when this happened. What really happened was that in the previous point Ancic smacked his rat on the ground and you could hear a crack but the head was ok. When he hit the return on the next point the head came off. I guess the crack we heard was across the shaft of the rqt..

Not sure if they still apply it the same way, but if a player 'cracked a rqt and the changed it straight away the umpire would give a code violation. But if the play continued to use it he wouldn't

I've seen someone snap a Ti.Fire in half at the throat hitting in a power rally.

Racquets cracking during play is not uncommon. Remember, we (unlike the pros) usually have a stick we play with a very long time, before buying a new one. The more you play with a racquet the more strength it begins to lose.

Pros go through racquets like we go through toilet paper. They will not usually go more than one year with the same racquets. They receive new ones throughout the year.

I usually crack at least one frame every year.

These new Ti. racquets crack much more easily than old graphite/fiberglass ones, those were very durable.

This was back in 1999-2000. I'm not sure what version they used back then.

The only other time I saw something like that was when McEnroe was playing the Masters at MSG. He was serving and tossed the ball up and swung. The Dunlop 200G, (Deuce you'll love this) with injection moulding for extra strength, broke right above the leather grip. The look on McEnroe's face was priceless. The rest of the frame was on the court behind him and he had the handle in his hand.
