Wiggins getting knighted is a bit of a joke.

He deserved more than an OBE, in my opinion.

Surely he's achieved just as much (if not more) than Jessica Ennis, and they gave her a CBE.

He should've been awarded a "Sir", so that he will behave more like a Sir on a tennis court.

Murray needs this Wimbledon for a knighthood.

They should have special awards for Olympic athletes. I don't think someone should be made a Sir or Dame (or any of the other awards) just because they won a gold medal at the Olympics. These awards should be for a lifetime of achievement and service.

Good lad, Muzza. An OBE's a great and appropriate recognition of a fantastic year; the mass knighting that occurs after sporting triumph always makes me a bit queasy.

    Well done to Murray.

On another note, I don't think any sportsperson should be knighted or made a Dame until their career is over. Having active sportspeople being 'Sir Bradley Wiggins' etc. is ridiculous IMHO.

This is well deserved. I just have a sadistic desire to see Scotland declare independence right before Murray wins Wimbledon.

    My thoughts exactly.

I also share the opinion that these sportspeople shouldn't receive any form of honours until they retire.

It might have been a knighthood had he actually won that match himself. I heard they were pondering on whether to knight the easterly New York breeze. I can't help but imagine the vote to give Murray an OBE over the wind knighthood wasn't unanimous.

Andrew Murray is so important that the latest Bond movie ended up in Scotland as a tribute to him.

Until Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are knighted I call this whole procedure a farce! :-o

That's irrelevant, Ryan could have anyone's sister. Have you seen his chest hair? He's gorgeous!

Nothing girly about Ryan Giggs, except maybe his FA cup goal vs Arsenal. That was pure sex.

A knighthood for services to sisters-in-law and chest hair? :)

I think you have a point. Judging by his lack of pectoral fluff (from what I've seen whenever he changes his shirt) and lack of any rumours linking him to Jamie's missus, Andy probably wouldn't qualify!

The OBE was awarded for what Murray achieved in 2012, ie. the Olympic gold medal and the US Open title so it should be interesting to see what he will receive in recognition for his Wimbledon victory when the next New Year's honours are announced in a couple of months time!

I saw one interview where they were asking if he was going to go out for lunch and have a big family celebration, but he said he was going to head home to get on with his rehab, but they'd probably stop for lunch on the way!!

Once home, there was the traditional photo of the dog with the medal.:)

If they knighted him, wouldn't Wimbledon have to address him during the match as Sir Murray to serve, advantage Sir Murray, etc. Meanwhile everyone is just Mr. That's a psychological advantage. LOL.

Any incorrect line calls, and he can send them to the tower. :D

(Technically it would be Sir Andy. Sirs don't need surnames)
