I really wish they would play more head to head. It would be really interesting to see how Rafa handles Andy's serve. I believe Rafa's return of serve is one of the most overrated shots in the game. It's not his return that gets him breaks, it's what he does after the return that gives people trouble.

I think the head to head would be fairly even if they played about 10 matches (as it pretty much is right now).

NO no no! Indian Wells and Queens are just super slow now, so Nadal has the advantage. Otherwise Roddicks huge serve would dominate just like in the old S&V days.

I think Roddick would have the edge on fast HC (USO, Cincy), and indoors HC.

Obviously Nadal has the edge on clay, and I think has the edge on slower HC (AO, IW).

On grass I think it would be pretty close. Queens 08 it's hard to judge, as Roddick wasn't at his best and Nadal was playing the best of his career. But if they both were at their best on grass, I'd say Nadal would take 3 out of 5 matches.

I'd love to see them play at Wimbledon or the US Open (again).

    none of your damn business
    Nadal has the backhand
    backhand slice
    drop shot
    transition game
    movement
    speed
    return of serve in general
    has the mental edge
    forehand

Roddick doesn't have a 2008 Dubai very often because he can't;that's the bottom line

I'm not fond of either player but I'll always root for Nadal against Roddick;always!

Roddick was averaging over 130 on his first serve, so his shoulder was clearly fine. He just got handled by a better player, deal with it Roddick fanboy.

Actuallt technically i am a 'Sadditt' Fan; Safin, Roddick, Hewitt are my favourites lol.

Roddick did lose to Tipsarevic, so that gives it away that Roddick wasn't 100%. Lets see if Nadal would handle Roddick serving at 80% like this years wimbledon.

Even Roddick admitted he came back to soon.

And i'm not a 'fanboy' in a delusional world because i can admit that Nadal is actually better than Roddick on every surface (except for really fast HC's) and is 100 x Roddick's abilities.

You're clearly quite the fanboy by defending Nadal's victories and trying to make him look like a god!

Love them both, though Nadal's my absolute favorite! I haven't seen them together much, but I'm hoping we'll see that pairing sometime this year.

The 2008 Queens tournament clip was a sure testament to Nadal's strength, but both these guys are retooling their games for 2010. That's one reason (of many) why I see the coming year as a fascinating one for us tennis fans!!!!

I don't mind Nadal, although he does seem a little fake and should just speak his mind. Takes a bit too long on points but most people do except Blake.

It's his fans that do my head in!!!

I remember watching this Match Roddicks serve was just over powering him, there was one that didn't hit him but he leaned so far back to get out of the way he fell over backwards, I remember thinking this guy will never be a player his return of serve is horrible.:)

Nadal's ROS is just better than average now, he has the best ground game on tour IMO.

I like Roddick well enough, but I don't think he matches up too well against Nads, he'd need a better backhand to do so.

About Rafa's ROS, I'd put Nalbo, Ferrer or Murray above him, but not many more. You don't lead three of the four ATP ROS stats (and are top 5 in the remaining one) with just an above average return.

You have to understand that Nadal was just 18 that year. Roddick was the World No.2. His ground game was not as great now as it was then( on HC). Btw, if Nadal was serving bullets like Roddick, Roddick would probably also be helpless. Nadal always had a better ROS than Roddick. Anyway, Nadal got his revenge later in DC by defeating Roddick in 4.

I think he was just noting how quickly Nadal developed and how far he's come to be the player he is today, not trying to slight Nadal or anything. Roddick was a defending USO champ, and Nadal was a nobody at that time. The result was to be expected, but if they met now, that match might as well be decades ago instead of 6 years ago.

I disagree about Nadal always having a better return than Roddick, Roddick used to return very aggressively inside the baseline, watch some older video against Sampras, Roddick has become less aggressive returning serve, and Nadal's has improved, but is nothing special, Nadal's backhand return is good, his forehand return is average.

I'd really like to see them play on grass. Queens 2008 was a poor showing from Andy (I believe he may have been injured). With Roddick's recent improvement, it would be a tough match.

The main reason they never play is that Roddick stinks on clay and Nadal stinks on fast HC (see WTF '09 0-3). That along with the fact that Roddick has been stuck in Fed's half of the draw 90% of the time.
