Really! How would anyone here know that? That is question that can't be answered here, go ask Roddick at his website at the Q&A!!

Andy Roddick came and played at the courts where I started playing at a year ago. My coach personally knew him, but it was like a mutual relationship not a coach like one. He said that Andy was more like a consistant go for the shot when he got it sort of guy, and he said that Andy wasn't that tall either. So i assume that his serve wasn't that Roddick like now.

From what I have read, Andy has always had the abbreviated, explosive serve that he has now. He simply wasn't physically imposing when he was 13 and probably served around 80.

He was a tiny guy at the time, and he might not have learned his signature motion yet. He said he made that motion up out of frustration one day. I think he was more like the typical kid, run for everything and play super consistent, but with no weapons.

Nope, he had a classic motion before. One day, he was really pissed, and did the abbreviated motion out of anger, and he cranked the ball. And then, he sticked to it.
