No problems to reach him on his new site.
They look great and are shipping.
Couple of the following ordered:
63 RA (60/61 RA strung)
10pts HL unstrung (6pts strung I would think)
B grip (Dunlop)
Looking forward to giving them a hit. I'll need to bump the SW up a touch with some lead at 12 but other than that, the spec looks great.
Anyone has already received the racket? I can't wait
A friend on here has his three, they look superb, Im sure he'll post a review and some more fotos, hope he doesnt mind but here they are below........
I assume they are from the exact same mold as the Vantages?
All ready to go, cant wait to get mine.....
Yes Im pretty sure they are, just a rebrand and new cosmetic, which is so much better imo.....
Ha Ha.... no prob Rich,
BTW I added the lead at 3&9 (10g as it happens) the frames are 320g unstrung and therefore leave me some room for experimentation..
Initial impressions are extremely favourable, I can confirm they are simply Paul's Vantage Frames with much improved cosmetic !!
I must agree. Never owned Vantage frame before but from the pics the new cosmetics looks so much better. I hope to get mine this week to compare it to my PT630's and i.prestige's until autumn comes in full strength.
335 Sw unstrung?
I much prefer the original stick, they look slick!
The current Angell paintjob though it looks good now, may not have the long lasting appeal of the Vantage--pure business on the courts.
Long live Vantage frames!
If anyone has an extra for me to demo
Or I'll just order 3, to get the discount of course
Btw, when I bought Vantage frames I always get them calibrated/customized by Stewart Allwright at Stringlab.
Stringlab and Vantage is like Donnay and Dunlop working side by side.
For that spec, it was estimated 330SW strung, so I would guess 300SW unstrung. I requested a slightly higher SW (+5).
Do the frames have a functional trap door in the butt?
Yes, but then you will find a foam filled handle.
as well as the foam filled handle there's also a whole racket that is also foam filled too
Has anyone in the USA received their new racquets yet ?
I am about to order myself 3 racquets but i am just curious about the weight and balance listed. I understand these are unstrung weights but do they factor in the grip chosen? I intend to choose black leather for my grip. Thanks for the help guys!
Okay it's factored in the listed weights. Paul has godlike reply speed.
was about to say yes but there you go, god-like reply. enjoy your sticks.
anyone know where the frames are manufactured? Paint scheme looks similar to Donnay X-series, and foam filled as well. I can't wait to try these bad boys out
Does anyone know the best email address to contact Paul on?
Thanks in advance.
^^ house rule: no email addresses of competitors on this site. Have a nice day.
Sincere apologies to our host.
My Angell racquet arrived! (New Jersey)
It looks beautiful, and I really love the paint job. My only issue is that I forgot what specs I got it and the throat with all the specs is empty. Looks like I have to fill it in?
^^^ congrats! Post a couple pics if you can and give us a review after you hit with it good sir.
My racquet also arrived (SoCal)!
Cosmetically, it rocks. Now just need to string it up and hit. (Will be using full-bed natural gut - does tennis get more expensive than custom racquet and full-bed natural gut?)
Does anyone know what the recommended tension range is? Is a stringing diagram available anywhere?
Tennis doesn't get better than a full bed of natural gut in general, throw in a custom racket and youre in heaven.
For Vantage rackets you start at the throat & skip 7 & 9's, so I'm assuming it would be the same for Angell rackets.
Trust it comes with a sticker with the specs?
Ill look in the box, but I'm pretty sure there was nothing in it. I was just excited to just swing it around before I left for work
That's open pattern......not a general rule.
got TC95s arriving in the next day or so.
95 sq inch
9 pts HL
Looking forward to it. Current singles match racket is Blade BLX 98 but also liking my restrung C10 Pro (RPM at 58lbs). It is TC95 or one of these for the winter season.
Nothing in the box / bubble sleeve that contained stickers with my specs
Good thing I found my email order
16 x 19
320g (11.4oz) / 320mm (7pts hl)
It's supposed to be similar to my Prince Speedport Tour which has been my main stick for a few years now. Hopefully it hits like a dream tomorrow
Just strung my TC100 and it seems to have a noisy vibration ..... haven't hit with it, but will try to do so tomorrow.
Looks like you have to print your own sticker specially when you begin to accumulate Angell racquets of differing custom specs.
Not to worry, as I have already heard from Paul
Hit with the TC100 this morning ... racquet played well , no noticeable noise or vibration as long as hits were in the "sweet spot" ..... off-center hits were a little bothersome, but not nearly as much as I feared !
Paul has been in daily contact with me since I first reported this odd condition, and I'm sure we will work this out.
I will say it is one beautiful stick.
How will you work it out? A frame has vibration or it doesn't. You can put lead or silicone and dampen it, but I don't see how you can "work it out."
BTW, though we like to make fun of big racket manufacturers, they do perform extensive vibration tests in the lab on each model, starting from the mathematical model in the design phase and continuing after prototypes become available. They also get feedback from players throughout the process. That is why modern frames have become so comfortable.
Vibration may have been a bad choice of words on my part .... it is a vibrating sound that is made no actual vibration is felt in the hand or arm.
Whatever it is is a fluke with this particular racquet and not, I'm sure indicative of the line ....... I'm sure Paul and i will reach a compromise, credit, replacement or something that is satisfactory to both of us. The racquet itself plays well, it just makes an occasional vibrating sound (nothing is transmitted to the arm) , comfort and feel is outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend Paul's product. Let me emphasize that nothing is really noticeable when playing, only when striking the palm of your hand with the racquet face.
The Angell racquets are beautifully designed and put together and I'm probably going to purchase another.
Is the buttcap at all loose? This would occasionally happem with the x series donnay line. Simply glue or tape in the cap and it was solved in thoae cases. Have not seen the actual angell racket yet but maybe thia helps
How do the frames play? Currently hitting donnay pro one 18x20.
Butt Cap doesn't appear to be loose...... I think it might be the lower (throat ) grommet not yet seated ...... Haven't really played with it in matches , but have used it for "warm-up" several times ..... It hit very well and only occasionally (not very often) do you note a sound .... no vibration felt, so whatever it is is not bothersome. ....... seems better each time out.
As to how it hits .... very controlled and accurate..... not a lot of power (it is the 63 RA flex) .... very solid feel you would expect from a foam filled racquet .... impeccable cosmetics
I wish the Angell TC100 came in an 18x20 pattern. My PK Qtours are 18x20 and I've come to prefer that over 16x19.... the Angell plays very similiar to the PK Qtour.... it just doesn't (in the 63 flex) have the power of the Q, but control is definitely there.
If I were to get another Angell, I believe I would go for the TC95 with an 18x20 pattern.
Thanks Kal-El I believe the trapdoor of the buttcap may be the problem (or part of it)..... when you bang the racquet against te heel of your shoe you hear nothing, hit it with your palm and there's a buzz (tho no vibration is felt) and it is much less today than Sunday.
That was a common problem with the early Donnay line and their weighted caps... A little roll of scotch tape as filler and no issue. A small annoyance but was easily fixable. Hope it helps. Debating pulling the trigger and trying an angell but it's tough as I haven't actually bought a racket in years haha..
They are really nice frames ... a little underpowered for an oldster like me. I'm mostly playing with the new PK Qtour.
What is so nice about the Angell is the super solid feel the foam treatment provides, and the ability to get the balance and weight you want without resorting to lead. Just think I may be a little past my prime to handle it.
I will say that it is great to do business with Paul ( not often a company head- even a small company) gets as involved with his customers as Paul does.
