Best series ever. I like complex characters instead of cardboard hero/villain setups. Just as in real life, nobody is completely good or bad.

In the same sense, I was pleased with the treatment of The Governor in the last two episodes of The Walking Dead.

    **Spoiler***

Big fan but almost gave up on the show when Walt got the real chemist fired to put Jessie back in the underground so he could cook with him. I just didn't get the "loyalty" thing. That was stupid and nobody in his right mind would do it. Now, a person on meth would do it because they have no sense...but Walt???

If by "Breaking Bad" you mean earning a hard fought break and then promptly losing your serve right after, then yeah, guess I am a fan considering I do it all the damn time!

No, in all seriousness decent show, but loved the star when on "Malcolm in the Middle" as the goofball dad...much less intense!

I think I'm out of watching the show. Last night was the episode where Walt runs down the two guys walking up to Jess with guns. This is crazy. Jesse has been such a monumental pain in Walt's butt. Walt's whole family is on the line and he risks it all for Jesse???? No way. Jesse had better end up being his son because this, again, crazy.

Awesome series and awesome last season. Gus Fring was an amazing villain. SPOILER: In the last episode, loved the way Walt managed to walk into the compound where they held Jesse and killed them all with the automatic gun.

Definitely has cemented it as the best TV show of all time. Still, The Sopranos and The Wire are still up there, do not count them out. The Wire is very underrated but it is a top 3 show. I actually started watching Breaking Bad in 2009, been a follower for years. It was mainly for Jesse but Walt shocked the crap outta me.

It was a great show to let off steam as you're watching train wrecks of lives to get your mine off yours.

    Just started Breaking Bad.

Walt looks a lot like Gary Oldman to me, and also one of my neighbours !

And that other kid, Pinkman, looks like Victor Troicki.

Six Feet Under and The Wire are the only shows I've seen all of that I'd put up at that level. A lot of people rate The Sopranos highly, but it fell a bit short for me after seeing those 3 shows before it...

The Sopranos set everything up, without that show, there would be no Breaking Bad and other related shows. Sopranos will always be a classic.

The trick the show uses to keep you watching is end an episode in the middle of something.

It was entertaining, but alot of it made no sense. Like when Gus poisoned that entire cartel. Or when Walt's invention popped out of the trunk and shot everybody.

Have mercy on me guys, I'm in the middle of S2. I've already seen some S5 spoilers which i just can't get out of my head :(

I'm approx a light year away from your planet, so our advanced civilization gets to see your TV programs a bit late.

You cannot not post spoilers because this forum doesn't allow you to post spoiler tags. Really stupid, anyway. Only thing I can think off is to post "spoiler below" in big bold letters like i will do now  Sentinel, do not read this mate, sorry. It's huge.

    Spoiler below!!!

    @ Steady Eddy

No, all of that made sense (you need to re-watch Gus's history with the cartel) but one thing which did not make sense was HOW did Walt find a way to poison Brock? How did he give it to him and it's weird Brock didn't recognise Walt.

    Spoilers

As you watch it, it's exciting, and then you see that someone planned it all. Someone like Gus, or Walt. But then you see it doesn't make sense. For example, Gus gives the guy wine as a symbol of accepting their deal. But how would he know that the guy would drink the wine right then, much less give a glass to everyone? I've seen people get wine or booze as a gift. Rarely to they drink it immediately.

When Walt's car shot everybody was even worse. How did he know his taunt would cause them to fetch Jessie? They're going to kill him, why would they care what he thinks? Then it shoots everybody BUT Jessie, how could that be? How could he even be allowed to back his car up against their place?

But people rant about how awesome BB is. So your expectations get higher than for the usual TV stuff. So it's a good show, but not great, at least IMHO.

Don't know how its not great. Season 4 was probably the best season ever for a TV show. And season 5 was a bit of a snooze than it took off!

BB was the rare good show that never jumped the shark.

I've got two episodes of True Detective to go, and so far I'd place it as the best series ever. Hopefully I won't be let down.

^^Yep. Time will tell if it stands up.

I was disappointed in the final episodes. It's like they didn't know what to do. As when Walt went to New Hampshire, but nothing happened.

No one thought Saul's secretary was kind of hot?
Oh no, got the person mixed up, it was the fast food worker at Gus's chicken. The tall native American.

Thankfully, Season 3 is picking up. Was a bit slow in the first few epis.

What a life for someone who had a quiet schoolteacher life ! What a blast ! How can you ever go back to being a regular person after that ?

Ozymandias alone beats any single 1 hour episode aired by any televion series of any decade. I'd put Crawl Space there too.

    @ The people complaining

You guys don't know what a slow burner is or what arthouse elements in a visual medium. I suggest you lot stick to watching Transformers or something else by Michael Bay.

Now each episode is ending with something really riveting ... S3 started a bit slow but really delivered in the end. S4 starts well.

At this rate I can imagine how huge S4 and S5 and gonna be.

I really need to thank the OP, Claudius, for starting this thread. I copied this show onto my drive from someone else's since I remembered there was a thread here.

Now i am in the middle of S5. Confession was amazing. Totally enjoyed the last couple weeks watching BB. I think I will finish today.

    I like Six Feet Under.

Bored to death with Tony's constant gurgling of his saliva when speaking (like wine tasting and about to spit it out) in The Sopranos.

Six feet under had it moments but over the many seasons all the emo drama just bored me.
Now if you just want to jump to the best season on TV for just excitement watch Season 5 of 24, you don't need to watch any of the prior seasons.

Aren't they filming a new season in London?

When 24 came out it was quite groundbreaking for TV the use of real time and split screens. But this had been done before in a movie (I don't remember the name).

Woo hoo ! Finished season5, and also "bummed" or "gutted" that it's over.

    S P O I L E R S ....

I don't think it was that. Walt realized that GB could replace him, and so wanted him out. He knew that Jesse could not. WW needed to be indispensable.

Usually that is what other shows do. But i thought they never do this trick, except maybe once or twice in the entire five seasons of BB.

Also, the cartel were impeding Gus too much and demanding too much. They were refusing to negotiate and were killing Gus's people with snipers. There was no other way out for them anyway in Mexico. It was a simple thing anyway, just take the bottle and everyone would have a sip of it.

The invention that popped out of the trunk was triggered by his car unlock button and he had tried it out in the desert earlier. It shot through the car, i thought, but yes, how did he know exactly where they would be.

WW could have avoided that meeting, but essentially did it to free Jesse.

I don't know why so many of you hated Walt, I loved him throughout and rooted for him till the end. Just wish Skylar had agreed to go along with him. She wants him to kill Jesse, yet .... it looked like double standards to me.

At the end of it, I am amused at the chaps who survived. LOL.
And wondering if Hank had not gone to the toilet and chanced upon that page
... and if Jesse had taken the car away for good...

I was not very convinced with Jesse's reasons for turning back considering that that issue had been dealt with earlier. The doctors had said it was not ricin, so how did he suddenly again suspect Walt and ricin.

Welcome to the club of Breaking Bad connoisseurs, Sentinel. :)

Well, I never thought the series was gimmicky, as so many series or movies are.

For example, regarding Walt's machine gun mechanism, that's exactly the type of thing someone like Walt would do. Highly intelligent, and not averse to taking chances. The way it was built it allowed for quite a bit of leeway as well (as it rotated like a water sprinkler).

I rooted for Walt all through the series too. His overarching intention was to take care of his family financially, and he delivered (even if in doing so he changed in bad ways and actually caused his family a lot of irreversible pain).

I am waiting to see the spinoff centered around Saul Goodman. I know Vince Gilligan will deliver.

I think you may have missed the point of Walt's original story Sentinel. His goal was to just get enough money for his family, he even wrote down the calculations, can't remember but his goal was around $700k to cover everything for lifetime.

He HAD a chance to get out, I mean the guy already made more than that but he carried on. Even Jesse told him why carry on with the business when he's made much much more but Walt always had a ego, even from the beginning (not accepting help, not receiving money etc), he always wanted to be the man.

And this fascination of him being a drug kingpin/lord made him feel important (the line where he mentions"you know damn well who I am" was the icing on the cake he loved the Heisenberg persona, made his life worthy of living, there was excitement. But that led to other disastrous consequences for the people he involved in.

That's why at the season finale he mentions "I did it for myself", the truth was out (what I and all the fans were waiting for), it was never about the family, only at the beginning.

Everyone took a sip. But that guy previously treated all his employees like crap. Why would he let them have a sip? If he drank it himself, and just he died, then Gus would have been in you know what.

But the way it freed Jesse was that they took him away to show him to Walt, after Walt's taunt. Why would anyone care about what Walt thought? They were just going to kill him anyway? In movies the villain always explains himself to the hero before he's going to kill him. That doesn't make sense, and is just for the audience. The scene was satisfying, as Jesse was freed. But in retrospect, it only happened because the writers can make anything they want happen.

I agree, but i still never could get to dislike Walt no matter what.

At the same time, did he not often lose whatever he had earned?
Like when he wanted them all to leave but Skyler had spent 600K dollars on Ted Beneke so they had nothing.

Walt does have this thing of "being the best at what you do" which society and our parents often drill into us. At the same time, he cannot forget how that couple from Gray Matter cheated him, and thus he somehow feels entitled or compelled to earn a large amount.

True. Usually the villain explains himself giving the hero a little extra time to free himself, or the police to get there, or for the hero to make the villain do something silly.
I guess this happens so often that i have stopped noticing it, although i do tend to nitpick a lot on such things usually.

I guess as far as the bottle episode in Mexico, it's equally likely that they never would have opened the bottle at that point, just put it away.
