    I play regularly on Chess.com

I used to be really good but now not so much, very intricate game, I love it but I sort of suck now, still fun to play a few games every couple days

Is it chessmaster grandmaster edition? If so check out the Josh Waitzkin academy on there... there are a bunch of annotated games that he talks you through (in the Art of Learning and Annotated Games sections). They're extremely useful if you're trying to improve

I used to be competitive against 1300ers years ago. It's a fun game, but it just takes too much time for me to want to do much seriously with it.

I was rated as high as 1900 on Chess.com. though in real life I am more like 1650-1700. online ratings can get quite inflated. My username is savy_swede haven't been on in a few months though. since it is so cold outside i might as well get back into it.

I play on their server as a guest. I'm thinking of joining, but I've been so busy I'm not sure I'd use it enough. It's a bit pricey compared to www.chessclub.com, but I like the graphics better.

I only play speedchess these days at 5/0 and am about 1700-1800 level.

Nice to see so many chess players here!

I like to play anywhere between 4/0 and 8/0 games. If I did not play chess while drinking, my rating would probably be higher :). I typically float between 1400 and 1600.

Its fun to get skilled enough such that you can beat everyone you know who isn't a serious chess player. Then they think you are good even though compared to a real chess player, you suck pretty bad.

When I was in college at UMBC (U of Md. Balt Co.), our chess team was top dogs in the nation, with some world-class players on scholarships there. I was friends with one of the team members, but he was on the B-team which I think he was around 1900-2000 rated. I played him a few times and he would start the game without a queen, and would still beat me easily. What amazed me was that he could play with a 1-minute timer and I would have unlimited time and he could still easily checkmate me...LOL.

Every now and then the upper crust on Yahoo will throw me a bone and play me. You feel helpless after about the 2nd move! Even if you follow all the general guidelines for starting a game, it just seems like you are under constant pressure from the very start.

Drinking is worse for your health and tennis than for your chess! Think of it as a handicap you are giving your opponents. :) Like tieing one arm behind your back. ;)
If I play chess even when I'm tired, or not feeling up to snuff, I lose, lose, lose. Blunders go up when you aren't 100%.

I think it is more due to being tired than anything. If I'm very alert, I can usually play well against 1700-1800 level players. If I'm tired, I'm vulnerable to anyone.

hmm - either you are better than 2100, or the grandmaster/inter. master players you played were hung over :) or, since int master title is for live, they --used to-- play at int master level years ago....

I play blitz chess (3 and 5 minute games) and bullet chess(1 minute games)
on the FICS server nearly everyday. My rating is around 1400 ELO blitz and 1550 ELO in bullet, standard time limit I am around 1700 ELO. I generally don't play over 5 minute time limit games on the server because there are a lot of players using computer programs to cheat at higher time limits.

My screenname at FICS is serveman if anyone ever wants to play let me know, I will play higher time limit if you would like.

Seems as if there are quite a few players here at TW, perhaps we could start a chess ladder for blitz and standard chess. Anyone interested?

Do you have an account on the free internet chess server? The interface is much better using FICS and Babaschess client, than the one at Chess.com

I think i was underrated when i played. In 1 or 2 tournaments I had a performance rating of 2400+ though, but in others i did terrible, therefore my rating fluctuated.

google Ilan Meerovich if you don't believe me ;)

Ilan - I never said I didn't believe you. It indeed looks like you are better than 2100 - which is what I suspected. To get 2400+ even in one tournament is, well, no small feat by any means - congratulations!
p.s. I used to be around 2100 myself, even a bit higher in speed chess so i know what it means to play at that level. But it was a while back, I have not played serious chess in years...

Who would like to set up a tournament on Chess.com? I would do it myself but you need a timeout % of 5 or less (mine is 6). Whoever would like to join/ setup said tournament speak up and i will add your names to this post. Please include Chess.com username in your post.

You can castle in games at www.instantchess.com

I like that site the best because you play against real players for free without having to sign up. I deleted all those other links i posted here from my favorites.

I can't stand blitz chess. Even 15 min games are to short for me. I like 30 min games where i can take my time. I hear ya about cheats though, i seen pawns cross over and takes pieces straight in front of them. Glitchers and cheaters suck.
