I was born in Seoul but have lived in Southern California all my life. I forgot how to speak Korean but I still eat Korean food almost everyday.

Going to a Korean restaurant for lunch. What do you call the dish with strips of meat/vegetables over rice and topped with egg? Usually you add some sort of paste to it and eat it with soup.

Yeah, my thoughts, too. What's the point of answering such a post, either in the affirmative or negative? Any Vietnamese, any Filippinos, any Croatians, any Latvians, etc.....what is the POINT? If you're proud of your heritage, fine, great-as well you should be-but affirming it on an internet chat board merely because some 14-year old asks the question, does not, to me, indicate "pride". These "polls" are annoying and a waste of server space.

What's even more irritating is in our society on some levels finds it acceptable to some to say this kind of stuff. Well, it's wrong.

Let someone try to post "any white people here?" and all he!! breaks loose about racism, bigotry and other tasteless name calling begins. What's politically correct for one should be for another, no double standards.

This kind of thread is rude and should be removed. I find it hard to believe these posts stay around when they are so profoundly out of place, yet others get remove with little reason.

Chill out guys. We're just answering questions. If it's ok with the TW folks then who's to complain. They can just delete this thread if they want to. And besides what are you doing on this thread?

    Bookem....Thanks.

Theazneys...The correct term is "FILIPINO" and if you really are one then you would know it.

andfor - I don't think this kind of thread annoys me as much as it annoys you-as for banination, it's borderline for me-annoying, but not anymore so than the infantile fart and circumcision threads that have been propping up here lately.

If you're actually wondering why posting a thread entitled "any whites here" would cause all hell to break loose, well, I'm not sure you would understand the reasons why this is so. I'll only say that to DO that would be to create an intentionally provocative thread-DESIGNED to stir the pot, wheras the other "racialist" threads, as annoying as they are, are only intended to sound off others who are of the same ethnic heritage-nothing more, I think. I don't really think the posters are trying to make a strong racial statement-at least not consciously. Then again, some of them may-but nothing I've read here indicates that is the case. My annoyance comes from the fact that this is an international/multi cultural forum and to INTENTIONALLY try and narrow it, even in a couple threads, a) defeats that purpose, and b) annoys me.

I have a more moderate view. I think the result of the Filipino thread is positive. They are trying to meet up to play tennis together (except for Noelle;) ), sharing experiences, albeit not only tennis, and I think that is probably comforting and affirming for any group that isn't "mainstream". I speak as someone who is.
There are many more space wasting, pointless, even nasty, threads than these - so far. Until the whitey one comes along...
Seems like anything goes in Odds & Ends.

Good for you for having a more moderate view. Of course there are nastier threads than these, which, up to now have been fairly innocuous in content. And it's great to be able to have access to a group of people for setting up tennis games, but why would that have to be with only people from one ethnic group or another? Why be exclusionary on an international chat board? It's not like I'm lonely 'cause I can't join a ".....s-only" tennis game-but why even HAVE those? Are we just one great big world, with no real or perceived differences, with all people being equal? No, and I'm not so naive to think so, but at least on a tennis board you would think that we can distance ourselves from that kind of parochialism.

    awright & pogo: Corrine......say it slowly.....Corrine.

Say "Corrine" slowly.....eat "Corrine" slowly. This is one time where it's not considered impolite to eat with your mouth full.

Corrine. I still stand-by my stand by. I still eat Corrine every day. Corrine tastes delicious.

Korean food? I haven't the faintest.....

You points and viewpoint are well taken. My example may have been a little harsh or extreme and did not intend to offend with my example. Just open some eyes. I was at the point that if an idiot did post a thread using my same example I would have blasted off on him as well. I must say my attempt however it is percieved was constructive on my part. Twisted huhhh?

When i was visiting korea 4 years ago, just for a glance i saw many beautiful women. And my tour guide said that the korean women are workcoholic(am I spell correctly?). it wouldn't easy to persuade the korean women and if you believe that many of korean women have no expertise in cooking.

Can you tell who's Korean, Chinese, or Japanese? Are you sure?

Hey, POGO, so what do you think about those Korean Girls? I found I like the first one best.

Do you think you can tell Koreans from other asians? Try this. I was very proud to score 9 out of 18 (thanks to my trained visual sense organs trained in the bay area)!

Very nice!!! Yes, I can tell other Asians from one another. For example, I can tell a Filipino/Filipina from a Japanese, Korean or a Chinese. Filipinos are much darker in complexion and have coarser hair than the other three Asians I mentioned. Am I right?

From my experience, I think Southern Asians look very different from Eastern Asians (C-J-K). So it's easier. But can you tell J-K-C or Vietnamese-Thai if you are not one of them? That's different story. Have you tried alllooksame.com yet? Post your score!

Huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did well and above average!!! It was difficult to tell apart Japanese, Korean and Chinese but, I was able to. I thought it would be easy though. To me Japanese and Korean look the most smiliar, but most Japanese have narrower and longer nose like Europeans.

Here is my score. How did you do?

POGO, it's very impressive. My score was 9 and when I tried it 2 months later, it was again 9 (testing my memory actually...). And I haven't met anyone with my ability before you. But I know why.

You are Korean. She is Japanese. And pogo is Chinese. Or something like that.

BTW, to answer your question, Japanese and Korean are known to share same root (migrated from northern asia=Mongolia? Manchuria?) while Chinese don't. I could be wrong. Anyway, some pictures at the site were very hard to tell their nationality. Good job, POGO.

    I got 11/18

I thought the test was pretty silly, because if you are going to do this type of test they really should have people with typical features. There were too many with mixed features and a couple where they were closing their eyes.
