Any one still using a 200G MW as their main stick?

I have always had an on again, off again love affair with this stick, and although I have not used one for a while, I have yet to find anything that plays like it. I was playing last night and a guy on the next court over was using one, playing beautiful all court tennis. I don't see these around much these days and I was curious if anyone still used a 200G MW as their main stick these days? If you do, do you play it in stock form or have you made mods to the weight and balance?

I pull mine out from time to time just for fun. I haven't played with it exclusively for 10 years. It's stock except for a leather grip and it still hits like a dream.

What is it about the frame that keeps you from using it as your main stick?

Mainly that I only have one left. I had two others, but they were in terrible shape. They were so incredibly hard to find at times after they stopped production. I've migrated completely away from a 200G frame. I play with a BD+ now. Way at the opposite side of the spectrum, but it's easier for me to play with.

I keep reading that this is one of the best frames of all time, a true classic like the PT630 and such, but i find that hard to believe when i see the very low prices asked for them these days. And most of the time, there are no takers even though the condition is often quite decent.

Beautiful frames, i have to admit.

It's a great racket.. i string it with low tension.. vsgut hybrid with ALU Power.. .. fairway leather grip.. just awesome weapon.. I find it better than any today racket in the 95square inch category..

I believe that these were originally released in 2000 or 2001 so these sticks are now pretty old and I can imagine the reluctance of purchasing a 10 year old frame unless it is new and unstrung. I have picked up several and sold several over the years and I found that post 2009, I found it very hard to find a matched pair that still had some pop left on them. I found them very enjoyable to use when I was playing regularly and when my game was"on", but when I was out of game shape, the 200GMW could be very demanding and could be discouraging at times because it is a demanding frame. There are easier frames to use out there for sure. I just find it interesting that when I read posts on any newer 200 series stick, that the comparison to the 200GMW seems to be the benchmark as to how the newer 200 series are measured. I don't get why Dunlop simply doesn't rerelease this frame and see how it does. Maybe there isn't a market for this type of frame anymore, but I have not been overwhelmed with any of the 200 releases since the MW, except for the 4D 200 tour, which is a very different stick, but still an excellent frame none the less.

Basil,

I too love the MW 200G. I think that Dunlop is reluctant to re-release it because it is an expensive frame to produce (excellent-quality braided graphite + elastomer yoke). All subsequent versions of the 200G used cheaper graphite and consequently were not as good, unfortunately.

I recently switched to the Volkl PB 10 Mid after playing with various Dunlop 200s for the last 10 yrs or so. The Volkl out-Dunlops the Dunlops in every dept, but I kept my 200Gs. They're the post-200GMW model, which I think is simply a matter of cosmetics. They're completely unmodded, the only Dunlop frame I never felt the need to trick-out, and they hit like nobody's business. A little head-heavy compared to the Volkls, but I can switch back and forth with little transition time and I can hit big big big with them. Next to the original Max 200G, the best stick Dunlop ever produced IMHO.

200G 95's were and still are are fantastic sticks. I have a close friend who has used these since they were introduced, but the problem is finding good condition new sticks. These are pretty much unobtanium. NOS? Forget about it. I have sourced crappier and crappier condition racquets from Europe for him over the years. Not a pretty picture. Worse yet is sourcing NOS grommets/bumpers -- extremely hard to find and $$$ when you can get them. He has settled in on various IG Prestige's and says they come the closest to the feel of his old Dunlops.
