I've gone from 5/8 to 1/2 to 3/8 and now thinking of using 1/4. One of my racquets that I ordered was (accidently) a 1/4, and i didn't know this at the time. For some reason I played markedly better with it than with an identical 3/8 racquet. It gives somewhat better feel for the racquet stringbed and more control of the angle -i cant explain it too well.

Any one here use a 1/4 grip on their racquets? and why?

    I use a 4 1/4.

I have fairly small hands / short fingers and the 1/4 seems to perfect for me. I have played with 3/8 but 1/4 feels more natural.

many people prefer a smaller grip because it seems to enable more wrist rotation, especially on topspin forehand and serve.

i use 4 1/8 w/an overgrip or 4 1/4 w/an overgrip b/c I have very small hands. Simple as that. I've never had problems w/grips slipping or changing upon shot impact. Neither have I had any arm or wrist problems b/c of it.

I use a 4 3/8 with just two overgrips, which is close to 4 1/4. I play lots better with a smaller grip.

EJ i agree that a smaller grip enables more wrist rotation. It also seems that I don't have to grip the racquet as hard during play, and my arm does not tire out as fast. The slippage is not a problem. I can even employ "controlled" slippage, to wrap around the ball more on shots when needed. I do not have small hands however.

I agree. More wrist snap seems possible. Also, a racquet tends to feel heavier with bigger grip. My favorite setting is 1/4 plus a overgrip, so around 3/8 and I have a pretty big hand.

Think he means, like Becker, he plays without a grip - JUST the two overgrips.

I also use 4 1/4 with tourna grip. I like the softness of the leather grip wrapped over by Tourna grip.

The shape of the grip handle can also change your grip size depending on the proportion between your finger & palm. For example: the shape of prestige tour (with suspension grip) feels larger than most other rackets.

You most probably liked the firm, feel the corners feel of this set up. Or, is there a soft leather grip out there in the market that I know nothing about?

I use a 4 1/4 grip with my Babolats only because Babolat grips are noticably larger than other manufactuers grips. My 4 1/4 Babolat grip feels larger then a lot of 4 3/8 grips I have held.

I also use a 4 1/4 Babolat, which is more like a 4 3/8. But I have hit with a 4 1/2 and I don't really have any problem with it, it just feels different, but not bad.

Might be a little easier finding my 1 handed backhand grip with the 4 1/4, but I think thats just because I'm used to the smaller size at the moment.

    4 1/2 for me. I tried 4 1/4 and it feels way too small. I feel better using a 4 5/8 over a 4 1/4.
